I have a friend with a disability who I am trying to get to play the game however I am thinking that in its current state it might not be such a good idea.
I showed him my escort ship and he really liked that but he was really interested in the science skills/ships. I showed him a list of skills and now he picked up the game and is playing around in his Miranda.
However I am worried about how he will play in the future once he gets 2+ fore/aft weapons since essentially he would have to spam the space bar to fire weapons (something that is very hard to do with just 1 functional hand, while maintaining bridge officer skills etc...)
I know he could get a G15 but he can't really afford it right now. He does have one of those gamer pad things though that you put your left hand in.
rebind the keys so they only cover 1 half of the keyboard instead of having them spread around so he could be controlling his ship will still firing weapons . Put the bridge officer skills along the number pad and rebind space bar to fire all instead. dont know about ship movment he might be stuck with 2dimensions i did manage to get Champs to work with the Voice recognition software built into win7 but it was very hit and miss and noisy
I don't have anything to add other than "What Awarkle said," but I think it's awesome you're helping out your friend. I work at a school for blind kids, and a lot of the little boys I work with love video games, but there are so few they can play and really get any satisfaction from. We just got a Wii for them though, and suddenly there are games they can play! Too often, people think that if something is hard for a disabled person to do with their disability, they should just not do it, without realizing that most things can be adapted in one way or another. I hope your friend gets a lot of satisfaction from this game.
