This battle has been the least fun aspect of any game I have seen in years.
It requires more teamwork and coordination than random people are capable of in general. I just wasted 2 hours in various instances trying this battle. After the like 9th time of seeing it go from approximate 16% to 49% in less than 30 seconds I just couldn't take it any more. People don't pay enough attention to the shards, and it looks like mines healed it. And tons of people use mines.
People were saying what was needed to be done, some were, some weren't. It self heals WAY TOO MUCH. Apparently the average player isn't capable of this encounter. It needs nerfed badly. And then nerfed again. It only takes 1 or 2 people to mess up and make it unwinnable.
It's got almost 900,000 hull. After fighting it for 45 minutes - watching it go from like 180k to 550k in 30 seconds just makes you want to go insane.
It's not required that people farm it. Also, if you ask Cryptic to nerf something they will end up giving it negative hitpoints and make it explode once you zone in. Then they'll give it millions of hitpoints and make you explode when you zone in to fix that once people start complaining about it being too easy.
It heals when people play dumb and get themselves killed, similar mechanic to Doomlord Kazzak from Wow. It's very beatable in it's current form, you just have to cut down on the players that zerg in and get killed every 20 seconds or so. This is another reason to have a stiffer death penalty for this game.
it was buffed in a recent patch. Has a *LOT* more health now so it takes much longer to burn down and players who die to it causing a 5% or so health increase do a lot more damage to the overall team effort. That said it's not much different otherwise and with players using proper tactics should easily be beatable in 3 minutes or so without any death.
To be fair everyone complained how we shouldn't kill it because its a living entity. I think the difficulty is just fine. The arguement that it is too hard to do with random people is a bad excuse. You can say that about any game. Who enjoyed pug raids in wow? If you want coordination hit up your fleet!
I really enjoyed how difficult it was when I fought it - for the first time I felt like I achieved something in STO. I thought the team effort required to bring it down was great.
I really like the new version. Got in there today and once people realized the kamikaze tactics weren't working, I saw Cruisers tanking, SVs healing/debuffing, Escorts zipping in and out... it was the first time I've seen people actually PLAYING. I have every intention of spending some more time in there while I'm still appropriate level.
It's a tough old beast, made harder by the fact that the game is instanced so heavily. You can be fighting it and then some clueless person joins your instance and ruins it all.
I`ve seen some interesting battles against the entity. Most interesting was today, where everyone got pretty organised but still couldnt kill it. Had a whole fleet moving clockwise around it, kiting the shards as they should, but there just wasnt the dps to make up for the occasional shard heal. The entity stayed on exactly 50 percent for the best part of a half hour and then people gave up, meaning it got fully healed almost instantly.
It's a bit off balance when an organised group still cant make a dent in its health. I find its too reliant on having some high level high dps player come in to deliver the finishing blows.
I did it shortly before the server crashed again. The difficulty is just fine. The one problem I have with it is the Admirals sitting in there farming the thing, effectively stealing the rewards from those of us who could actually use said reward.

Basically he was always too easy. Any random group of people could pwn him. He was on easy farm status.

I read the BO advice about the shards 'healing' it, whatever that means.
Noticed that it's hull was going down NONE, and that NO XP was being awarded for anything I did.
Left, and have no intention of returning til it makes sense to my feeble mind.
I went to the little camping spot where all the escorts camp and once it spawned it was over in less than 20 seconds.
Saying that not done it since the patch........
I see no reason to nerf everything into oblivion because a horde of slackers could not do it.
It sweetens the victory if it is not totally trivial.
Nobody shall dare to say this encounter is too hard, this is ridiculous.
