I'm beaming off the planet...

Every single mission that has you beam down to the planet will have mobs waiting for you when you beam off. This scenario at the end of every mission, and I do mean every mission, you could stake your life on and never have a worry of actually dieing. It has become a running joke in our fleet that when anyone is on a mission and is finishing it up calls out, "Beaming up!" The reply, "Don't do it!"

Don't believe me? I am level 27 or Commander 7. Here is the basic mission that has the same over all encounters.

Scenario:

1. Enter system: Here you will have to defeat 3-5 enemies and or scan stuff.
2. Beaming down: Here you will beam down to a planet, moon or onto a station or ship.
3. Away portion: Here you will have to defeat all enemies and or scan stuff, probably both.
4. Beaming up: "Don't do it1" Here you will have to face 3-5 more enemies or scan stuff.

Mission complete! Any and every mission will run this scenario. Sure, there may be more mobs or and extra scan this in there but its all the same. I pray there is a mission that does not have be fight ships at the end of an away mission. Who is Cryptic's mission designer, Bobo? Well give Bobo some extra bananas and have him come up with some variety on missions.

Many will argue I am a troll or the fanboys will scream bloody murder for touching their beloved away missions. But I am a gamer who likes to play games and be hooked on games. They need to fix this mundane boring mission design and come up with things that are new and not regurgitated.

Even if you disagree with this post I want you to remember it ever time you beam of the planet from an away mission. I will guarantee that 8/9 out of 10 times there will be a squadron waiting for you that you have to defeat. This should put some perspective on things.

And no this is not my only complaint about the game but one of the most annoying of them.

Feel free to make suggestions as to what type of missions should be added to the game.

OP -- you've stated your issues with clarity and respect (which tells me you have healthy self-respect). You're not a troll, and I agree with you. I am hoping that given some time, they add in more content that isn't so cookie-cutter. Which is about all I can do at this point -- besides chiming in to agree with folks who deliver criticisms with some forethought and class.

I happen to agree with you. I signed the "add more mystery/puzzle/diplomacy missions" thread for the same reason.

My feeling is that my long term dedication to the game will really depend on whether or not they add more varied content on the away missions.

I love the setting and the design. The places you go look wonderful. Its definately Star Trek. They nailed it. But its what you do down there that is the problem. We need more NPC interaction like in other MMOs. Even if they just make us run around a bit. Figure out who is telling the truth, who is lieing, send us to explore some ruins, defeat some mobs, talk to people, etc. There needs to be more depth to the away missions. It can be done. LOTRO does it.

I dont think you are a troll at all. I think you are making a reasonable call for a change to what is an unfortunate cookie cutter mission design.
