What I'd like to see...

Here are the big changes I'd like to see:

1. Transit between systems - In my mind, the way they're doing it isn't bad, because it is a way to speed up transit. But instead of a map, that isn't at all realistic, how about this:

1a. Let us see the insides of our ships. You know, the big things we're flying around in, the ones we can customize the bridges of, but not see (unless Im missing something)? The thing that is the essence of playing the game? What would the player use it for?

1b. So, youve dialed in you coordinates for the next sector to travel to. Now, "engage/punch it". The view changes from space to inside the ship, and youre in character mode again. Your ship is now your world, until such time as the timer ends, or you reset your destination. You then go off and:

1c. craft/train. So, you need a sample of anti-matter to build some high end torpedo launcher? Great. Go to astrometics and perform an experiment. If youre successful, you get it. If not, try again. Need to increase your ground combat skills? Welcome to the holodeck. Use the time in transit to schedule these types things.

1d. crafting would relate to your character class, of course. So if youre an engineer, you can build, repair things on the ship youre currently on. Things break down, and the captain of the ship sometimes has to pitch in.

This is of course just the beginning, but aside from the overarching mission changes, this would provide much more of the world that STO users are looking for. And it's really not that difficult to modify the existing system to allow for things like this. All of the components exist, with the exception of ship interiors and the tasks to earn the materials for crafting.
