Was thinking of turning my engineer into a pure escort pilot.
Now with engineer skills and the dps of an escort- would that not make a better tank to hold and maintain aggro for your group?
the survivabilty skills alone will make an escort even harder to kill and with good turn rates you can virtually allways keep a good shield facing the enemys while holding thier aggro?
Technically Engineers have the best class abilities for the Cruiser/Tank, but it's completely optional and the bonuses seem trivial in the long run. I wanted to be Tactical/Cruiser, and I just felt that attack pattern alpha was more initial threat generation because of the harder hitting torp spreads.
Engineer/Cruiser can outtank others. We're awesome like that.
outtank as in suvive- what about holding aggro- as i have heard from loads of escort pilots eng/cruisers loose aggro fast due to escorts high dps abilitys?

I'm somewhat less successful at that. In fact, my science officer currently has jam sensors slotted, which is pretty much the polar opposite of holding aggro.
not aggro stealign abilitys- jsut that with escorts high dps the enemys switch to them instead and dps them.
theres no way for an engineer to go in and get the aggro then hold it- as soon as the escorts open fire the enemy switches to them as they the greater threat preception.

Perhaps its the developers' intention to have Escorts make use of the Jam Sensors and the other masking abilities as a default? So that cruisers are allowed to keep aggro.

Possibly, but I doubt it. Jam sensors cooldown is too high to be used as a reverse aggro grabber.

Play what you want and it will work out fine.

"Vanish" comes to mind.
I am going Science/Escort for the healing (repairs).
