Amazing thread

I just wanted to post a link to a forum thread that has made me laugh more than any other thread I have seen on any forum ever.

http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=103822

This thread is amazing. It really says a lot about the way people in MMOs communicate nowadays, the heat, the passion of these arguments is amazing! It's almost like the colour of these effects is affecting these people IRL ways. How easily these people resort to insults as a method of trying to get their point over though! I am personally amazed that people can find it in them-selves to get so worked up about this.

I played WoW before this game and the environment was similar on their forums. People really HATEHATING each other verbally. What is it about MMOs that make people this passionate?

Finally i wanted to say, I do not want this thread to be a continuation of that thread ....

and also that i find this comment from the thread extremely funny:

"Something the pvp min/maxers always forget in their quest to be Nerd King."

I always found it amazing how personally people take issues in games like this. I remember a thread from yesterday where the OP was complaining about playing in window mode and not being able to put other windows on top of the STO client like they had been able to in the past. So rather than ask, "Is this intended, is this happening for everyone, is there something I can do to fix this?" it pretty much became, "You ruined my life and now all the money I spent is wasted forever." Then they restarted their client and the problem fixed itself.

    Deep breaths, people.

If this thread gets locked for dragging up a locked thread, I'll make a thread commemorating it.

Also, it's not MMO's that make people hate each other this passionately. It's the Internet.

Yes, it's the internet in general. MMO's happen to be on the internet, so the same applies, it would seem.

Nah... I hated everyone passionately long before I ever experienced the internet.

Yes,i did get a laugh out of that thread. It was going so well up until post 6,then some anger started to creep into the tone of the poster.Around post 10 it was turning into a full fledged War.The fire was spreading up the walls and onto the curtains and no one bothered to wake the children sleeping up stairs or call the fire dept.lotsa fun in the thread. You will notice,I was not involved in that thread, why?becuase I don't give a rats TRIBBLE about the color of the weapons in this game.I LIKE the game.I don't LIVE the game.:D

Indeed, I wonder how many of these people would resort to such over-reaction to the opposite opinion in real life. There is something about the anonymity of the internet which really does bring out the worst in people. It makes you wonder if really, the computers in "the Matrix" were doing to correct thing. If humans are this bad to each other on a forum, imagine how much worse they could be in an environment such as the one created for them!

In conclusion; some humans = nasty pieces of work tbh. The referred to thread shows a marginalised part of human society admittedly, but the scale of the behaviour, even if only boosted by the anonymity of the net is still unacceptable. It is like drunken behaviour in fact, the lowering of your inhibitions to the stage where you become less than human, Sub-human in fact. But without the intelligence and cognitive loss you get with drunkeness, which keeps the insults all the more horrible because they have been thought of for 5 plus minutes before posting!
