The Crystal Entity is just a poor design that promotes community infighting ....

Why in the world would any experienced Developer create a public scenario, where people spend close to an hour to get something down in health, and then an influx of a new players that don't know what they are doing can come in and TRIBBLE that up????

If there was a problem with ramming the damned entity then there should have been a barrier put around it that destroyed any ship that came within 500KM.

This TRIBBLE we have now it annoying, tedious, absurd, and is accomplishing nothing but in-fighting in the community?

Do the Dev's think this is funny? Do they think this is what people see as a challenge?

This is something you design for a Raid, not for a community quest that can't be controlled, and leaves itself wide open for those that just revel in griefing the general population.

Wow. Deja vu. City of Heroes. Hamidon.

Yes, Cryptic has lots of experience in developing that kind of encounter, and they like it.

If they did it because they think its funny ... it was a Epic Fail. For the first time since I started playing this game, I was frustrated to the point of anger, and I wasn't alone. Just go listen to the zone chat in the instance.

oh my. Get over it. I did the crystaline entity battle 2 times now. I thought it was difficult. I believe of course I maybe wrong. But the one from the TNG series was destroyed. So this new one may be a enfant or perhapes is not as powerful as the one in the series.

Before the entity was a pushover. In and out within 3 seconds. Now, it's a nightmare. It's like riding with that guy that's putting along on the freeway and when you complain he's going too slow he floors it and the car's now doing twice the limit.

My proposal to help it but not diminish the overall intent on the difficulty increase is to put a hard cap on the HP recovery. Say if you get the entity to a checkpoint every 25% HP it could only heal up to the last checkpoint.

    By that I mean this:
Get the entity to 74%, can't heal over 75%.
Get the entity to 49%, can't heal over 50%.
Get the entity to 24%, can't heal over 25%.

This will lessen the amount of new members dropping in and getting this thing to full heal from 13% HP.

An alternative suggestion is to lessen the number of crystals that are out. At any given time the game is lagging due to the amount of crystal shards floating around. This would lower the amount of healing this thing can put up and help keep the engagement to under 30 minutes.

What's the issue. I haven't tried Crystalline Entity since beta, but back then it was a pretty quick encounter. Took no more than a few minutes for a fleet to wipe it out.

I think what they've done with the entity is a overstepped what they were shooting for.

The entity was WAY...WAY too easy before, it literaly died in SECONDS. So they needed to make it harder. What they've done is a good thing, but....they overdid it a bit. They need to tone down the healing that the shards do to the entity, or take out the healing all together and make the shards faster.

This is something that happens in all MMOs, get used to it. They cant make everything perfect the first time. They'll put in what they think is right, get feedback, and adjust it accordingly.

As for smart / dumb players, if you had all smart players, then it would, once again, be too easy. Let them work it out and balance it as it needs be, but for now, its better than it was. Much better.

The fact that 90% of the players don't rea the ops about the large fragments compounds the situation.

Rule of thumb, ith large ragments fly lclockwise ov0impulse have people just targetting the entitry. It's that simple!

Of corse getting hit by fragments cause entity healing aswell.. it went from way to easy to way to hard

The issue is, they didn't want us ramming it ... fine. So now it has an insane amount of hit points .... with a full instance it took us almost an hour to get it down to 30 some percent.

Then people just got bored and left ... so in comes a whole new group of players into the instance. They don't know what they are doing .... so they die, the crystals go back to the entity, and within minutes it was back up to 49%.

Another 30 minutes to get it down to under 40 percent ... and BAM! In comes a whole new group of people who TRIBBLE up and we're back to 50%.

Basically now, the entity has a lot more HP. On top of that it releases shards that follow people they get close to. If the small ones hit you they do 4-5.5k damage each. You typically have 3-7 following you at a time. They require 3 High yield torps + 2 barrages of cannons to pick one off.

If you die to a shard, the shard splinters and heals the entity. On top of that the entity seems to recall the shards at some points and uses them to heal itself.

I did this last night and it took literally 1hr 32 min to beat it and I didn't jump in at the beginning. People were getting fed up and leaving after their 10 or so death. During the fight new people came in and stormed up to the thing and ended up healing it from around 32% one time up to 74%. The second time that happened it went from 17% to 76%. The Third time it happened it went from 0% to 92%...

People were angry and yelling, it was total chaos and the only way to kill it at that point was having someone use the ramming speed exploit after widdling it down to ~15%. In the end, I placed 3rd just because I stayed there that long. I racked up close to 650k points. the winner of the round racked up an easy 1.3 million points.

I imagine something similar happened to the OP.

Note to self: Don't do this quest yet... I'm not even up to it yet, I'm at the heinous spacial charges fleet action... which I've put on hold for... whenever.

Meh. They should lock the zone once it starts to prevent the death healing, but keep the difficulty the same. It's not like it's a requirement to farm it.

It might help that situation if that mission actually worked.

I agree 100%!! This is the first mission I've done that I've actually got so annoyed I've been physically angry, it's ridiculous, there is no need for it at all like!

All that's happening in the zone is an hour and a half of us repeatedly pressing fire all weapons and the thing dropping down to 26% health and then people getting hit by shards and it went right back up to 98%. People are shouting and screaming in zone chat and making abusive comments about other players in the zone and about nations as a whole, so far I've seen "whining euros", "fatty yanks" and people calling others TRIBBLE for deploying mines or getting hit by shards when trying to avoid them.

This mission needs serious addressing, or at the very least it should be worth much much more of a reward than what you get... it's not worth wasting several hours of your day to do this one thing.

And for those of us actually in the tier the content was designed for, and are unable to exploit ramming speed?

it works for the first 2 seconds of evasive maneuvers, and if you have any hint of timing ability you can easily do about 3mil and 1shot it, if you are a bit off you will still do 1mil, which is about 100% - 12%

    commander 3?
    that's not crytal entitiy range?

    are you TRIBBLE?

It is a well done scripted encounter that is now finally both challenging and feels rewarding when you complete it. Cryptic over-estimated their demographic and forgot that most everyone in this game just face-rolls the space key.

Most of the people in this thread are probably the ones killing Large fragments when everyone told them not to.
Or, my personal favorite. The "but I want to get good damage" excuse.

You don't have to complete the mission now. Complete it later down the road. Like when you hit Admiral. For right now, that's the last fleet action for a couple of weeks. I think its awesome that its not broken but extremely hard. When you actually beat it its an accomplishment to brag about.

Yes it does. Last night before fleet meeting I went in to check out the "new" Entity. We beat it in 10 minutes. I had second place. First place was an admiral using ramming speed. Took 2 hits. First down to 30%, by the time the second had rolled around it was back up to 37% and then suddenly....BOOM, here's your impulse engines (that I gave to a fleetie).

Could you explain the situation with that particular mission to those of us that are new and haven't done that scenario yet? How can things get screwed up?

First I have to say I didn't try the new encounter yet, but I guess I will just finishing writing this.

But I want to tell you how my experience was before it changed.

I engaged on the enemy beeing a LtC ob his way to become Cm when I got the hail from Starfleet that there was this incredible dangerous thing threatening the existence of uncounted planets if not stopped.

At my arrival there were already a lot of vessels at one point, and I joined up with them waiting. The closer the encounter got the more vessels arrived...and I was kinda wondering why it was all Cm Escorts... .

Suddenly they started buffing up with patterns through the whole greek alphabet, I started turning cause I was wondering what's going on, halfway they started unloading everything they had and when I finally turned I saw the entity, before I could aim at it it was gone.

And of course all those brave Cm's in their Escorts got high rankings... .

On another note I saw someone being admiral complaining there is nothing to do and all to easy, no demading fleetactions.

Well, I guess you now got what you have been asking for - either active or passive.
