HP Touchsmart problem

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I just got a HP Touchsmart300 PC and loaded up STO, it works great but when I click on some buttons (the fire all weapons button) the game instantly minimizes. Key strokes don't seem to cause it, just clicking on the screen button. I've disabled the touch feature and that didn't change it. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same issue. Anyone know how to fix this? iTS VERY ANNOYING. you really can't get into any real good battles cause you are almost for sure going to get minimized at least once.

This system has a ATI Radeon HD 3200 GPU. This is below specs.

Remember this game is not WoW. Your system is not design for "Demanding 3D gaming". In Option - Video set Half Resolution = ON. Lower your in game Resolution. That GPU doesn't have the house power to run STO at 16:9 native resolution.

This is just wild guess as I do not own HP Touchsmart so it might not fix your problem.

Right click your Star Trek Online shortcut.
Click Properties, in Shortcut tab click Open File Location
    Double-click Star Trek Online folder
    Double-click Live folder
    Right click GameClient (.exe) aplication
Click Properties, in Compatibility tab check Disable visual themes and Disable desktop composition
    Hit Apply, OK

You can also try running in windowed-maximized mode instead of fullscreen. I would also grab the latest DirectX installer (they have released a new one since we made our DVDs) since that sounds like either a DX or driver issue.

The last DX update had no graphics changes, only sounds.

If this is an issue with the touch screen you need to look at the settings for that.

Try starting off in the control panel>mouse>hardware tab.

Go to properties>driver>disable all except your mouse.

On a low spec machine like that, i wouldnt do that, since the gpu and cpu has to render the desktop and the game, thereby stressing his hardware.

That extra work is only done by the GPU and often doesn't make that much of a difference. It's just a minor redirection, which is not really such a "stress".

If it fixes their game it's worth it and therefore a valid suggestion by coderanger.

actually i've a similar, funky, behavior....for some odd reason, when i play STO, and in my Trillian Astra (a multi messenger) a message comes in (which pops up in the 'background', on the desktop) and i happen to click on a 'screen coordinate' where a button of a windows of Trillian Astra would be, STO minimizes, I'm at the desktop and have triggered the button of the Trillian Astra window.
If/When the message window is 'made', it does NOT overlay in front of STO, I dont see that happening.

I suspect it has to do with that when Trillian generates it's window that some "mouse coordinates screen-over" are conflicting between STO's DirectDraw and Trillian's DirectDraw interfacings.

It's not a big deal, since my hardware is very quickly switching back to STO in less than a second, but it's kinda annoying ;)

    my system's specs are:
    EVGA X58 3X SLI mainboard
    i7 core intel CPU
    24 GB DDR3 ram
    Nvidia GTX295 - Revision B Model
    Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit

all drivers up-to-date according to Windows Update system
