During OB and the head start my impression of the hardware serving STO was not a good one... the constant down time, disconnects, and lag in fact caused me to cancel my Deluxe Digital download. I was mad at Cryptic because the content available in STO didn't seem like it was worth fighting all of the problems associated with GETTING to that content.
I felt for sure that launch day would be an unmitigated disaster. Until I tried logging in. It worked, and there wasn't a queue... My ONLY complaint with the hardware as it is in the current state (since the official launch) is... WHY? Why did it take up until zero hour?
Crytpic, you could have kept SO many orders if you had brought out your "A" game sooner! I would have kept the Deluxe Digital. I may have even gotten a lifetime subscription. But seeing the horrible hardware on display, I didn't.
I have since purchased a copy off the shelf and will be playing. I can admit that I was wrong to talk as much trash as I did but if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck. It is probably a duck. Turns out STO wasn't a "duck", it was something a lot cooler. And without the hardware restricting my "fun" I am finding STO to be a lot more enjoyable.
I wonder how many more people had a last minute change of heart...
no change of heart here. With MMO betas that have plenty challanges you expect a really shaky start on day one of release. This is the first time i have seen an MMO fly out the gates on day one at warp factor 9

I did. I hemed and hawed over pre-ordering right up until after the end of OB. But I did, mostly due to a few major improvements I saw near the end, and don't regret it at all.
I knew it wasn't going to be a problem because I've been in the development industry so long. Thats why I stuck around.
It's actually a very common practice to save your best hardware for launch. And honestly every public message that Cryptic sent out about servers was almost identical to what my company sends out when we have similar complaints from clients. So I knew what was going on.
I've been in the coding industry for a long time too and Cryptic's idea for a "headstart" (which was basically just an extended beta) was a very good one. They can now say that their launch was relatively problem free because technically, LAUNCH was. Headstart had problems but that wasn't launch now, was it?
We do similar stuff at my job for launching new things.

I had a feeling it was going to be alright.
