Information Request:
Has anyone used Transphasic Torpedoes? If so, what sort of damage pass-through are you seeing?
Im considering building out a Directed Energy Modulation suite of officers to go with a Transphasic Torpedo (and, potentially, mine) heavy ship, with the intent of being able to direclty attack hull quickly enough to do meaningful damage to the 'shield tanks', specifically the extend shields/reverse shield polarity vessels that, currently, you cant seem to hurt.
I know Transphasics give up alot of damage for their shield piercing functions, but I cannot yet buy them to assess how much shield piercing they get for that cost. I hope to know soon, as Im in tier 3 now and will have to be deciding which torpoedo style to level up soon.
I'm currently using transphasic torpedos mark x with maxed skills to transphaic projectiles and projectiles. I typically hit for 4-5k damade with full powerups and debuts on as a tactical+escort. The transphasics have a CHANCE to pass through shield, I've noticed somewhere around 10-15% at most. Otherwise they get full absorbed by shields like any other torpedo. compare this to quantum torpedos that hit for 7-12k with full debuffs on. Not very reliable or worth it IMO. I'm waiting them to add respecs now. Tranphasic mines however work pretty well with dispersal pattern beta 3. They drop 16 mines @ 1k damage each.
Especially since a mark 2 quantums puts out the same damage, it only took 1 transphasic to take out a borg cube in endgame. =(
They need to make at least a portion to always hit through shields or buff the base damage or even lowering the cool down. 10 second cool down for a mediocre torpedo (lowest damage of any other) that needs 3600 skill points to spec into isn't very desirable.
Put 9 points into Transphasic Projectiles, and total damage for transphasic projectiles is about 1/4th my total damage from Quantum projectiles at 9.
Ignoring shields on a 10-15% chance is meaningless since they only hit for about 1076 damage regardless of whether they pass through a shield or go through a straight breached shield quadrant.
I'm not happy with them at all I think they've been severely nerfed, and I switched back to quantums because I get a lot more bang for my buck out of them and the trans-shield capability of the transphasic isn't enough to make up for their completely craptastic damage.

I think they need to rework Transphasic. If you compare both weapons, the quantum projectiles is more superior in every way. I used it for a while in beta and I've only seen it go through maybe a few times. It's really not worth it especially if you can take down the shields pretty fast depending on setup.
since when has Directed Energy Modulation worked? I tried it pretty late in open beta and rank 1 maxed out did absolutely nothing to hull through shields.

DEM increases shield damage, it does not give a hull damage bonus.
man where people looting these things I havent looted either one yet
I didn't loot my Transphasic Launchers I purchased Mark VIII's at the Fleet Merchant in Requisitions with Exploration Medals.
To be frank I'm happier with the Polaron beam arcs I got, even with no training in Polaron Beam Technology yet, than I am with the Transphasic launchers with Transphasic Projectiles maxed.
Thats how bad Transphasic torpedos are. They're about as good as a Beam Overload I shot. And thats about it. Actually Beam Overload I crits for more than Transphasic Torpedos do, so Beam Overload I > Transphasic Projectiles trained to 9.
DEM actually gives you a small proc added damage (DEM2 with 100 weapon power gives 16dmg per hit) that ignores shields, it was clearly visible in the damage spam and in the combat lot.
It is not doing anything anymore, not sure when it broke, but even when it was working it was horribly underpowered at higher tiers.
Craptastic Torpedos. From Borg Cube instagib to quite possibly the worst form of weapon in the game.
Not saying it needs to be an instant Cube killer, but for crying out loud they're worthless. Bump them up to almost as much damage as a photon with 50% chance to penetrate shields and a longer cooldown than photons.
Either that or make them ungodly against the Borg and suck vs all else.

Yes, when i tried it in beta the hull repair of basically everything counters it. Not sure if it was just useless or broken, but the result was the same. It is possible they fixed it, but it seems unlikely.

Interesting on your Sig, you forgot to mention in your tactics that the reason Feds do that is because the Klingons will use any cheapshot they can get to win. (unlike the REAL ones from the tv show)

Last question... Tricobalts... anyone know anything?
