Idea: Could the Devs play as a 'Q' in STO?

I have posted this before, but for some reason it ended up being archived, so here is my first post from the thread again. Click here to view the archived thread, Idea: Could the Devs play as a 'Q' in STO?

Please do click on the above link and have a quick browse of the old thread. :)

Throughout Star Trek the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and various books a reoccurring character known only as 'Q' has shown us that his race known only as ‘The Q’ has a near unlimited power allowing them to transfer objects (including them selves) of any kind to any where or any time, to create anything, any where at any time or turn something into anything else, any where at any time and also to destroy anything, any where at any time or turn something into nothing, any where at any time all done with a simple thought.

It would obviously be a bad idea to give this kind of power to a player and if it was given to a player, the programming involved in giving the player the power of ‘Q’ would be beyond any current programmers ability, in my opinion. I do believe however that the “Devs” could possibly play the role of a ‘Q’ during special events.

Please let me and everyone else, especially the “Devs” know what you think of this idea. :)

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I would most defiantely like to see the "Devs" play the role of Q, and if you would to, please post here. If it's not something thats possible, I would still like to see more involvement from great characters like Q, involving fasinating story telling with plot twists and turns that keep you guessing, if you would to, please post here.

Thank you for your time and kind attention.

To an extent it makes sense, and has a nice bit of lore attached to it. However it would have to be relegated to special events I would think, I mean you wouldn't want to sully the name of the continuum by having every CS rep in the game pop in a a Q, pull you out of the pillar you're stuck in, and go merrily on his way. The Q aren't exactly known for their benevolence.

We will be getting a mission involving Q, but I know that's not what you're after.

I have mentioned this in the thread which is archived and linked above, this is not exactly what I'm after, but it's a very good start.

    Just give them two personas.

If they're fixing problems make them Travellers, hoping through the timeline, correcting problems with people.

If they're running GM events they can be Q, having a little fun with the lesser races confined ot their primative mortal shells.

Briliant, could not have put it better myself, great idea! :D

I concur. I realize the game is obviously new, but hopefully the devs and GMs kick around these ideas and plan something in the future.

This thread is old, but does anyone else think the Devs should play as "Q" esspecially when holding live events?

I still do and even though this thread is old and my original was archived, I thought I would dig it up so you could have a look.

This would be cool to see happen. GMs/Devs using their special powers to make a ruckus and run ingame events with the form of an all powerful being. Support 100%.

This has been mentioned before, and while its kind of cool to call GM's "Q" since they have "god like" powers in game, I personally dont want some GM abusing his powers and actually PLAYING as a "Q". If Cryptic did have a live person playing as a Q, there would have to be very strict rules they had to follow as far as what they could do and even what they could say.

I think that would be a given, but it would be fun.

Just out of curiousity, how exactly would you envision this scenerio working?

For ingame GM run events? Big flashing announcement across the whole server. Q announces that there shall be a little time paradox in sector who really cares, for a duration of whenever. It could be a slight problem, a borg super cube, three CEs in the same instance or even a compitation where the greatest pvper in the game would be dertemined, with Q running the whole show and everyone acting according to his whim.

For regular GM duties in game, have them ham it up a little when granting player requests. IE player gets stuck in bug in "Trapped", they cannot move their ship and cannot leave the instance. So they call for a GM's help. Q arrives and grants them their request in his arrogant fashion then goes on his merry way to his next "mon capitan".

It will just add a little bit of immersion really.

    God no.

Given the attitude of the marketing department of the Cryptic Cybernetics Corporation. No.

Marketing is not the same as customer support. Besides it could be fun.

I don't think the GMs in game attitudes would change from how they are in game now Wildcat84, I've just always thought that they hold the power, so why not take on the form of a canon icon that also has all of the power, you know.
