I tried to stay away, I really did. I wanted to let the two sides of this debate hash it out but come on.
The whole argument is now spinning around in circles.

I am aware this is the internet and that does tend to happen, but we need to keep our feedback constructive.
I am going to lock this thread. I think we all need to agree to disagree on this point.

Some people want it, some people do not. Currently it is not in the game. The one truth about MMOs is that they never stay the same and it is possible for anything to happen to a game, but this is not the way to bring about that change.

In reply to this post, Id like to say that its very difficult to help encourage cryptic to reimplement this widely enjoyed feature when trolls continue to post in the threads thus making you close it.

That is all *Puts on flame pants*

They generally don't like posts about closed threads. You'll probably get a warning or an infraction.

Only if the closed thread's subject was objectionable, rather than then being closed because foolish trolls keep spamming in them.

Ugh, I hate it when people do this, firstly a post about a closed thread, and then trying to once again make it as if their opinion is the one with the clout, thereby encouraging further trolling.

The fact is, as the mod rightly stated, there are vocal opinions on both sides, it seems to be as widely NOT ENJOYED as it is widely enjoyed.

Yea its no suprise, Cryptic likes to punish the people who were defending them selfs. *shrug* I dont really care one way or the other, Im expressing my self on the forum about a feature im sure many people liked and if i get in trouble for it, well thats fine i take full responsability for freedom of speech.

If you want colored weapons back then get on the phone and call up CBS / Paramount and ask for their licensing department. Get their EXPLICIT permission, IN WRITING, then send it to Cryptic and prove to them that CBS doesn't care about pink phasers.

That's the only possible way those colored weapons will be put back in STO. They weren't removed because people complained about them. They were removed because they broke licensing agreements and were never put past CBS Quality control. The command to change them was left in game by ACCIDENT and never should have been there to being with.

I can guarantee that if someone from Cryptic calls up CBS and asks "Hey, can we put hot pink phasers in our game?" the person on the other end of that phone would strain his voice yelling at whoever it was at Cryptic that made that call.

In all fairness, though, it was getting pretty heated, with some posters throwing out some quite nasty and insulting comments. It's hardly surprising it was closed.

And from looking at some of the comments that have come in while I've been typing this, this thread is going to go the same way...

Each weapon type should have it's own unique colour so as to define what weapon is being fired. If I was in PvP then I would like to know what I am being hit by so as to ascertain what tactics to use for that weapon. Being able to change your weapon colour ishould not be allowed. Did Picard ever decide to use pink phasers? NO and neither should we.

    It is not widely enjoyed.

What makes you think it is? Because the same people keep posting the same TRIBBLE time and again to get it back in?

    Look.

    Solve it easy.

Do a vote on it, if this forum allows it. Leave it up for a month. No replys. No reasoning. No arguments. Just yes or no options.

    Simple as that.

Either that or a Dev comes out and says "We don't want it in, we are not allowed to have it in, and that is the end of it please stop making these threads"

    Ok?

No i believe widely because more than half of the people in the fleet i play in and all of my friends plus several people on the forums, plus those who i do not know but im sure they are out there enjoyed this feature. And dont tell us to not make these threads, the GM has no problem with it aslong as we stop the mindless pointing out of invalid points.

Reposting a thread after a GM has brought the hammer down is not the most wise of choices.... Usually it's better to take the lump, and move on.

the main reasoin i disliked the feature was because to me it ruined immersion. Yeah i know that's not what you wanted to hear but hey my opinion is just as important as yours. I'm glad they removed it, it was never meant to be in there in the first place according to them.

This is really the most logical reason for it to stay gone. I have several consoles for phaser/disruptor/plasma resistance, and if I am unable to easily tell what type of weapons are being used, it puts me at a strategic disadvantage.

This is the first and last thing I'm going to say on the subject.

If they didn't care at all then Cryptic would have taken a lot more liberties. Everything in this game was approved by someone who has say on what belongs in the IP. If you don't know that then you don't know anything about copyright laws and IP licensing. Laws on both of those can be found all over the web if you look around. CBS Does care. That should be obvious by their level of involvement with Cryptic since the early design phase of this game. Someone from CBS / Paramount was there every step of the way. They even state that in some of the Dev videos and previews that they worked hand in hand with some of the writers and creative control people from the shows.

I think they were right to remove it.

Maybe they'll put it on the C-Store. I hope not, mind - the notion is perfectly horrible to me.
