Ok, i have had it. Im sick of the anti- american garbage. If you dont like the " yanks " stupidity then dont play an AMERICAN game based out of an AMERICAN company. I agree there needs to be servers for other time areas but knock all the US bashing off.
As a UK / EU citizen I would like to distance myself from the OPs xenophobia but add my vote for EU and Aus/Asia servers.
This way downtime for each server cluster can be rotated so that it doesn't infringe on anyones "prime time" like todays and yesterdays did to the Aus/Asia sector. Though I would miss the international feel I get now, only this morning I was talking to guys from Aus and Malaysia which I wouldn't get to do with a UK / EU server.
"Yank" here... personally, I like having the UK, EU, and AUS players on the same server. I'd be totally ok with a rotating downtime to keep us all on one server.

Upon further examination, I think he meant the yanks stupidity as he didnt want us on the same server. I dont think he is complaining about the time zone.
As an American, I can agree that vastly different timezones and regions need their own servers - not only to cater to downtime, but language barriers and for timing of events (I doubt many people from EU or Aus/NZ could have made the 3 p.m. pst end of beta event.)
However, I do not appreciate being called stupid simply because of my nationality. How about you grow up?
Hell no. Despite I can feel the Aussies' pain over the daily primetime downtime at the moment, regional servers are an extremely TRIBBLE idea. They are empty at virtually any time outside this region's evening time, making the game a very lonely experience for anyone NOT playing in the evening. Besides, meeting people from all around the world is why I am playing MMOs in the first place. I am very happy that more and more companies move to the one-server model, really.
The daily downtime will be a thing of the past soon, anyway.
i love unique server!
cryptic i hope never will do regional servers.
i think its one of the best things on mmropgs market today..make unique server like eve online or champions.
(i am european..and hate the down times of the server..but i think its better do this that regional servers)
Yip me too i prefer the one server and dont mind the downtimes just not expected when getting home with new packaged game to find its going down in 10 mins lol
The whole point of Star Treks Federation is that it is a united system of planets, that means Earth people from every cornor of the world fighting alongside Vulcans etc. If you start dividing up the gaming population then it only leads to problems, first of all how about Multi national fleets? The fleet i am in has members from Japan, America and Europe, id hate to loose contact with them all because someone dosent like Americans, i mean come on, i thought gamers where a lot more tolerant these days, am i wrong?

Yeah, I don't read the original post as having anything to do with timezones and server maintenance.
I like the server the way it is, one international server. Sure the current downtime falls in the middle of my main game time (UK and don't work during the day) but it's not a problem, downtime will reduce a lot as game moves out of launch's teething time.
Being able to interact and share a game with people from all over the world is part of what makes an mmo to me. The language "barrier" is pretty much made of wet paper since most countries teach English as a second language a lot better than some English and American's speak it :P
It also pretty much guarantee's that there will be a reasonable population no matter what time I log in
As a rule I like Americans, but, the one thing I will say is the Americans love to give out the abuse but when it comes to taking it they are the first to whine. The only benefit from having seperate servers is to stop unfair maintenance times, I am almost certain if you look at the game population there are more players outide the U.S playing than from the U.S yet the server times benefit West Coast America, and, yes it is an American company but server management should be done from the prospective of it's customers.
I'm 100% against this idea... If for some crazy bizarre reason the server farm couldn't support all of us and we had to split the servers then maybe yes... but no... it's fine the way it is.
-There are always people online
-You are guaranteed players for big instances
-For those inclined, you can always PvP
-There are far more US players
-And yanks aren't stupid... that's just(was) their government.
I'm a Brit and have to say it is a slight inconvienience not being able to play during what is my primetime, however I can appreciate the reasons Cryptic likely has for the chosen times, the majority of the user base is more then likely US.
I quite like the worldwide community aspect of a single server, not to mention the healthly population longevity of this particular set up.
It would be nice if 1/4 of downtime was during US primetime tho, just to make it a little more balanced
Not sure why the OP felt bashing our friends from the US was prudent, I find Americans far more entertaining then europeans for the most part... he is obviously what we in England like to call a PLANK.

As an American who has been in the EU for several years, I agree completely.
Although sometimes I want to shake Swedes for never speaking up for themselves.

Well, sorry to break your bubble, but if you think you have to face 'anti american garbage' try playing as a german player for a day or 2, being called TRIBBLE pig, *******, and so on. I despise any kind of xenophobia, but believe me, you are not the only one, and by far not the one that is being treated the worst. And Cryptic is doing nothing about it.

Don't speak for me, kthx.
i want easy kills.
Oh, wait, that's right, if someone points out China isn't part of the "euro blanket" they're the idiots

So you're asking a North American company for your own server? You know, I'm going to use this tactic when I next ask for a pay rise.

The 1 server structure stays, PERIOD. Cryptic said it in the future.
And that is a very good thing.
Segregating servers by region is TRIBBLE. I like being able to freely choose who I do and do not play with.

Its alot worse now than it was.

On a side note: Downtime isnt a huge issue for alot of Aussies, anywhere from 9pm-12am ... not a huge deal
