Haven't missed WoW since STO!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
For quite a while I was logging in to WoW and hoping I would be excited to play it but it hasn't had my interest in quite a while. When I logged in I had no interest at all and would log out.

Since I started STO with closed beta, day 1, I have not missed WoW at all.

I can't figure out what happened that I lost my interest in WoW. I have high hopes that I will not lose interest in STO. I have been a Star Trek fan since TOS first run episodes.

Also, it looks and feels to me that Cryptic has done a better job of getting patches and content out, they have done a much better job listening to and communicating to the player base.

The only part of Star Trek I haven't seen is the new movie and the last episode of Enterprise. I just don't get it about the movie and I am thankful it is not taking place in our reality. Last Enterprise episode was a disservice to the cast of Enterprise. Of course this is only one fan's opinion.

I was already losing interest in WoW, but unfortunately some aspecs of this game make me want to go back sometimes.

[Note for knee-jerk fanboys: I said some aspecs, and sometimes. I want this game to succeed.]

I find even five minutes of WoW to be a draining experience; sleeping would be far more preferable. I have yet to feel this way with STO.

    I know that exact feeling!

IPossible to have a total of 50 chars, unlike STO`s 3.

The fact that you need 50+ characters, really tells you something about WoW.

I actually went back too WOW after CO and STO being such a fail for me personally.

I have just never tired of making chars, having many alts.

Possible to have a total of 50 chars, unlike STO`s 3.

Maybe CO just tainted my view of CRYPTIC as a company, and so don`t have much faith in the future of STO right now. Maybe later down the line if it doesn`t go the way of CO.

I for one am glad to see STO . I played WoW for about 2 years and the game itself was fun but the Community was the worst. "At least in my experence with it" far to many kids and spoil sports for me to enjoy the game between barrens chat and a overall feeling of a iless then friendly coummunity I had to quit that game!! as far as the game itself it was fun for the most part.

I haven't missed WoW in almost a year. Tried a free 7 day on my account a month or so ago, had some fun, but felt no desire to renew.

Not to say I didn't have fun with it, had an on again/off again account for 5 years. Sort of like certain ex-girlfriends... had lots of fun for a while, then one day you wake up and you both realize it's just over and you go your separate ways without any hard feelings.

Quite often i would take a couple of months break from wow and play something else for a while, I don't think I'll be going back to wow this time though.

Really? You don't miss the content, story driven missions, lack of instancing, lack of server crashes and a hundred other such things that STO can't deliver?
    Weird.

for me, endgame WoW felt like work w/o pay. Log in, do the same raids/heriocs/dailies every day. (With 5 80's it's still boring) Ok, change things up, lvl alts/alts professions. Same feeling of going to work w/o pay. WoW used to hold my attention quite a bit, I loved the lore, but now it seems blizz goes back and changes lore at the drop of a hat. Once STO went live I let my WoW sub go and haven't looked back since.

I can see that community trying to get a foothold in STO. I hope Cryptic can come up with a way to deter these individuals.

p.s. My ignore list is getting quite long! Thankfully, the in-game ignore crosses over to the forums!

I even miss little things like my character not "feeling" disjointed and awkward when walking or running.

Honestly, what is it with most MMOs sucking horribly at movement? Blizzard can't be the only ones to "get it".

THIS, right here, a billion times THIS. Right ****ING THERE! No other online game I've ever played has been able to capture the "feeling" (since I've never been able to come up with a more exact term) than WoW did with character movement.

No, I don't miss any of it. Besides playing a Blood Elf, as soon as I hit the Outlands I lost all interest. Northrend was exciting the first couple of times but I quickly lost interest. It may be that I don't know all the lore, etc., so it is all meaningless for me.

But, in STO, I know the lore pretty well and can identify with the NPC names, planets, stations, etc. It all has meaning and I relate it all to the series and movies. If I haven't seen something from canon I know it will probably be seen later after I am promoted and can move on to tougher missions.

Well, here's the thing. Most of us here played WoW at some point and liked it, and most of us are also trekkies. That means that when we are dreaming, we do not dream about being paladins, sorcerers or night elf hunters hunting orcs, we dream about being starship captains, orion slave-girls, TOS mini-skirts and bat'leths.

So obviously we will have a better and easier time RP'ing with STO than WoW.

I will agree with this poster 100 percent. Ground movement has been the nag of my STO experience. But, since I spend more time in space I haven't focused on it.

I didn't take this post as trolling. I thought it was written well, from the poster's point of view. The poster didn't go off on a tangent or anything.

I will agree to that as well, we serioulsy need motion-capture animations in lieu of hand made animations. As it is now our avatars walk like robots.

I mean, just one quick look at John Shepard running and walking in ME2 and you will quickly feel sick and disgusted at STO's avatar movement.

Unlike WoW, I was raised with Trek all my life. First tv show/ep I can remember watching as a child was the TOS ep "The Doomsday Machine". With the coming ability to buy additional char slots, plus once I get my main and an alt to max lvl, I will just delete an alt, create a new char, and do it all over again.

Here is how I am getting past this issue - STO is very new. I have seen and experienced how quickly Cryptic responds to the player base in adding new content and fixing existing content. I hold on to the hope that they will try, at some point, to remedy this issue. They just need time and the faith and patience of the STO community.

I have purchased 3 STO boxes/downloads for just one account. That gives me some stuff I really like. Since I got my original TOS ship (minus original bridge, hint hint) I have really slowed down my playing and just enjoying the experience and let it all play out for me.

Also, I have created 4 characters (3 Starfleet and 1 Klingon) and when I play each it is a different experience. My BOs are different, my uniforms are different, etc. 1 has moved past the TOS ship to a bigger cruiser. And.. playing a Klingon is an entirely new experience. It doesn't play (imo) anything like the Starfleet experience.

I totally agree here, the best way to see the things we want in the game is to support the game and give open henest feedback. I have heard many good things about Cryptics history with player feedback. So heres to a hopefully bright future for STO and the community. I only hope we don't end up with a WoW style Cummunity!

I was also brought up on ST, from TOS when I was a boy to the new movie now. Love it, but this game doesn`t have enough content as of yet to justify a sub, IMHO. I sure as well won`t pay for extra slots.

WOW just provides far more for my sub, and after 5 years still is. Again IMHO!
