Why did Cryptic team up with Del Taco? I live on the eastern seaboard, and there isnt a single Del Taco anywhere near. Personally, I think it was a mistake. Is ayone of the west coast kind enough to pm me a shuttle code?
Please?
And to any devs, I'm not giving out real money for codes, so don't worry.
EDIT: Thank you Admiral_Ares for a code!
but Del Taco was still a really bad idea.
EDIT EDIT: hmm, still have not gotten my code... so to anyone who has one, I can give you maybe 1000 credits (if i'm allowed too) in exchange for the shuttle.

Thats a good question indeed. I am in Oklahoma and we don't have that brand here!!

It's better than no promotion at all, which would likely have been the alternative.
It wouldn't have been a problem if those of us who could get Del Taco codes could trade them to those of you who cannot. It really is no different than trading any other in-game asset, but, apparently, this Del Taco thing is frowned upon. Its a pity!

Other in-game assets didn't cost real money to acquire. That's what it comes down to here. In order to get the code you need to have spent the $1.99 for the large drink. If you trade that item for another then the trade is being backed by real money, which would be the same - but further removed - as credit buying/selling.
You can give the codes away, though, if you so desire. You just can't accept anything in return.
I shall bump this, and PLEASE SOMEONE I WANT A CODE, I WILL DO ANYTHING!!!
It's not a blanket one code. It's a retail key you get on a 40 oz drink. Once that code is put in, it's done can't be reused. Otherwise one could just post the code and others could use it. I am not sure why they'd want to limit this item to Del Taco cups as its such a non-anything for game play.
The shuttle does nothing other than looking like you are being pursuded by a tiny cop car. To employ the shuttle it takes up one of your ship's device slots! So, it there-by is a device and ergo limits how many devices your ship can have. It's only deployable when you are in a system and out of combat.
My 2 cents is that Cryptic ought to just put them in the C store for free. I'd give you a code, but you can see by the descrption since I already activated the code I got it can't be reused as its a form of retail key.

That's the most specious line of reasoning. Every part of this game is predicated by an expense of money - you can't have played the game without spending money, so every aspect of the game is backed by real money. Trading a game asset, even a Del Taco shuttle, is no different than trading someone in your fleet a shield array. There will be millions of codes that go unused, so the pity remains.
I went there for lunch today. They were out of Star Trek cup because the truck didn't show up or something along those lines. I ate 6$ worth of their slop. Thought about trying again another day for the shuttle but decided it wasn't worth it. You can keep your shuttle and your del taco cryptic. I'll just add that to my growing mountian of cryptic RAGE
I am enjoying STO though, even without the shuttle.

Del Taco makes the most awesome Chili Cheese Fries!

They teamed up with Del Taco because Del Taco wanted to team up. If T-Bell'd approached them, I'm sure they would've preferred their wider footprint, but Del Taco's who they heard from.

Every part of the game, as you refer to, is predicated by subscriptions. We all pay for those. Exchanging an in-game-acquired item for an in-game-acquired item, or in-game-earned credits, is fine. The only real money that backs any items in the exchange is that from the subscription, which both parties have paid and Cryptic controls.
What Cryptic forbids is the exchange of goods for resources outside their control, and as the transaction and resources used are outside of their ability to control in this case, it's forbidden.

Maybe because Cryptic is based on the west coast and they have connections with Del Taco executives? Maybe because it was less costly to do a promotion with Del Taco than many of those other places? And maybe because Cryptic doesn't have the money to throw around that Paramount does. Yeah, it's Paramount's IP and they are backing the project, but that doesn't mean they're giving Cryptic unlimited funds with which to advertise.
Heck, we're lucky we got the advertising we did. Champions Online and City of Heroes went on without anything more than a picture and a paragraph on a website or two.
But not to worry. There are a number of us west coasters who are happy to help those of you who live nowhere near a Del Taco. Just keep a lookout for those Del Taco code trivia games or whatnot that people keep posting on the forums.
yeah, why couldn't they go with burger king, like the last movie did?
Well I would imagine that doing a partnership deal like this costs money. The studio responsible for the latest star trek probably has a lot of money. The studio responsible for the star trek online game probably doesn't have as much money. I would assume that Cryptic choose Del taco based on price or willingness to cooperate. Those are just the thoughts that pop in my head within seconds of reading this thread. I am no genius though, by any means.

Not at all, the C-store is entirely cash-funded. People who got their free "pre-order specials" can sell them in exactly the same way that I should be able to trade a Del Taco code. Trading items is part of the function of this game - they have no value outside of the game. Giving you something of game value in exchange for something of game value is entirely reasonable and supportable by all the mechanics of this game.
Well, I assure you, I will only take the code for free, or for some ingame item/help. I'm definetly not gong to pay real money to someone I don't know for a code.
It appears my benefactor has nt sent me my code........ so I still need one.

Could be one near the development studio.
