I can understand your frustration regarding this as I live in England however Cryptic will probably try and plan maintenance when the least amount of players are active, so as to impact the least amount of players possible.

I would imagine, although I am far from certain this means it will nearly always be on European time as oppose to the US as they will have more active players so if it was scheduled on US time it would impact more players.

    How is this 'TRIBBLE' Europe?

Its out of prime time for both US and EU.

Its ideal. Be thankful they are AWAKE at 3 am to do this work.

You know... Those times for some reason are the same as when most people are either in school or working so...
The only ones affected are the ones... That does neither? Which most likely isn't the majority.

Most people are asleep in the US and most people in the EU are at work. So IMHO its the best time to have it.

If like me you work mixed hours then it is a little frustrating. I work today from 2pm So I will miss out on a lot of play but never mind its only a game. I will go out and get some fresh air and take the time to eat something.

I'm not sure how Europe works as I've only lived here for a few years, but you know, during the hours of 11am-1pm, most people are supposed to be either in school or at work, right? What are you doing home playing video games at this time? And if you don't have a 9-5 job, nor are you in school, you have to realize that you're in the minority.

Nobody said anything about anyone being " trash ". I really doubt they had that in mind when making the downtime schedule.

Last time I checked a map Cryptic is going above and beyond the call of duty on timing.

I would not log into "Virtual Croissant-The MMO" on Parisian time as an American and demand they TRIBBLE EUrope to match my personal schedule......

    "perspective"

On weekdays i'm more often online at 3 AM than at 11 AM :)

But the period Cryptic has chosen for maintenance is the period with the least amount of people online (The Eve developers did research on this, they use a similar one-server model). Also it's good to have it at the same time, so that you know what to expect.

It is what it is, my friend. I share your feelings, but STO is based in the Pacific Time Zone of the USA unless I'm mistaken.

There's no intentional preference to TRIBBLE Europe. Cryptic simply decides to do maintenance during the wee hours of the morning when they believe the least amount of people will be online. They're not going to do scheduled maintenance right in the middle of the work day on the Western seaboard. Unfortunately, the maintenance period falls into an inconvenient time for people on the other side of the planet.

No matter what time they do maintenance, someone...somewhere...is getting screwed. I wouldn't lose any sleep, personally, if they alternated it and brought the servers down during the day in the US sometimes.

On the flip side, if the maintenance was always done in the middle of the day in the USA, while the Euros get to sleep....would you still be writing a post asking Cryptic not to TRIBBLE the USA ? I doubt it.

Most MMO's based in the US do downtimes in the middle of the night. It's just a fact. Apologies if this inconveniences our Federation/Klingon kindred overseas. Like I said...it wouldn't kill Cryptic to do maintenance during the day in the US...but I'm not sure if that will ever happen unless it's Emergency Maintenance.

    Live long and prosper...

Just in case the 4 consecutive right answers flashed you by.

I'm also awake and available to play games for about an hour, but then I'm self employed and can get away with it sometimes.

I'm not complaining though because I see the wisdom in both Cryptic doing maintenance now and doing their best to cater for the majority of players EU and US. You want to plead on someones behalf do so for every player between bangkok and Australia/Japan, it's slap bang in their play area (+7 - +12)

Normally i wouldnt mind the early downtime as was stated its not the big gaming time in EU.
What i do find annoying about it is that its on the EU release date. I had just gotten home with the game and installed it patched it only to get told the server was going down in 15 mins.
As you can pretty imagine i had a massive nerd rage episode at that point. (found my meds so im ok now :P)
So yea, im kinda agreeing with the OP just coz of that fact.

I really don't get it why we europeans should be screwed? The times couldn't be better because 99% are eighter at work or in school at these times.

Don't speak for every one in europe because most of us like these times regarding server maint.

You know, to those saying "what are you doing playing games at that hour"

Maybe someone has booked time off and wanted to play an hour or two of the game...or maybe they work from home ;)

    Many possibilities can occur

They should do the downtime durring 12-1pm US time.

Then the forums would explode, because all of use over here in the US lost our jobs to Obama

Go grab lunch, watch a movie, go for a walk, get the shopping done.

It's mid-day, a time when actually not a lot of folk would be playing. Peak time for mmo's is afternoon and the evening

I'm pretty sure Cryptic has also looked at their server traffic and have scheduled maintenance times to correspond to the lowest traffic times. They _have_ to take the servers down for maintenance at some time window, so they're going to pick the range with the least impact.

However there IS a way you can change this, if you don't like it. Go spread the word. Get everyone in your time zone to start playing STO and boost those numbers up. Once your time becomes a high traffic time, instead of a low one, the maintenance window could change. :)

I can sympathize being from the UK and I'd make a post about it myself if it wasn't for some people saying that they're "whinning's of a drop out", etc etc when I'm not personally, I booked the week off of work to play and power through.

However, it does seem the best time for them to apply patches and so on. The only problem is they're doing it practically every other day at the moment. Yes they're fixing bugs, but can we not do it on say a weekly basis for patches?

Also EVE Online has daily maintenance around the same time. So I don't quite say what the issue is if they can do it?

And on a side note to the OP this is week one for the game do you hoestly expect the server guys who do the updates ect to screrw up their body time clocks and have no life outside of the job just to keep you happy.

11 am is NOT prime time for uk or eruope this is outside prime time for these areas it is the time when most of the players should be either at work or at school.

All that being said i personally and disabled so cannot work anymore so have time to play and im sorry but the downtime is fine by the majority of player and it about time people like you stoped and thought about others and realise the whole gaming industry does not revolve around you or your time for playing.

    Anyway rant mode off.

I can see why you lost your job, and it has nothing to do with who's President. 11-1 US time would be EU prime time. You'd see a real forum explosion if that happen.

The goal of the current schedule is to be down when most of North America is sleeping and most of the European Union is at work/school. The Oceanic region gets screwed-over the most by this schedule but it's chosen based on server usage data - yes, Cryptic keeps track of that and knows exactly when the least amount of people are online at any given time.

But seriously we who can really play at this time are vast minority and we can be the ones doing something else instead of being on computer all the time. I know im too much at computer novadays :/

I really couldn't think of any better time frame to do maintenance. Most americans are in bed or at work on nightshift. Europeans are at work or at school.

Perfect timing to do maintenance. Also note that it's 3AM for the people at Cryptic.

Thanks guys@Cryptic for staying up and work for us in 3AM!

New games almost always patch daily for the first week or two. After that STO should fall into a weekly patch schedule.
