Come on everyoone, Lets get the ball rolling on what we all would like to see added/suggested/improved on for the future of Startrek online.
I would ask that in this thread you allow people to have their say and not argue with other people opinions, you can discusse peoples opinions in a civilised manner, but no saying it's not possible or telling others your being negative. This thread is all about everyones opinions on what they would like to see for the future of sto..NOT what you don't LIKE, BUT what you want to see happen in the future. Not it's fine as it is, as sto will never be different if thats your attitude to life, this game is for everyone, so lets get everyones opinions as everyone of us, want to have something added or removed. Feedback is the name of the game here:)
Firstly for me,
Space:
I'd like to see space and ground opened up more to be able to explore, the reason for this is that you can make things a little harder when it comes to missions... i.e a mission were you get info to explore a sector of space which is not fully known, but when you get to a sector of space, you then have to roam around and find clues as to what the sector is all about....You might meet new life forms or you might get attacked by pirates, or some entity might invade your ship, random events in any given sector, so what might happen to one player, might not happen to another. But after some events it all leads to one story..I.e. branches that lead to the stem. The opersit to a stem that has branches leading out.
Ground:
I'd like to see people being able to beam from their ship and straight to the ground without screenshots or even use shuttles and fly down to planets when the mission or the surrounds don't allow beaming. And also when you arrive on a planet you can then explore it, again not knowing whats ahead, but you might come across animals or plant life that is dangerous, or npc that give you missions on that planet and so on, just to open up a world to explore.
I've alot more, but now it's time for everyone here to get together and start being constructive, so lets see if we can, otherwise we'll never give cryptic feedback..;)
Ok it's late and I just got off work. These are kind of superficial things that don't really affect gameplay, but....
More long hair styles for girls
Better short hair styles for guys. No hair parted on side up....like on the box art or like Capt. Kirk. Come on now....
We should get a uniform slot every time we get a new rank.
More uniform options. With all the exclusives and specials, uniform options are being under utilized. I'd like more options.
I'd like to put my cursor on a chair and get an option to sit instead of having to type and emote or go into the emote menu
More functionality out of the bridge. It would be nice to access the controls to get information, or be able to pilot the ship from bridge view.
Smaller more realistic bridge proportions. They are too big. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't have tons of people on my bridge, just me and a friend or two. Make them smaller.
Add other parts of our ships...transporter, engineering, crew quarters, astrometrics, etc.
Have tool tips for all the stats so we know what they do!
All the different types of money is ridiculous for a game jsut starting out. I can see some games have different types of currency, but STO is launching with 5 levels of currency for exploration, probably 5 for pvp, energy, and starfleet merits. That's 12 different types of currency, when in Star Trek according to canon they did away with money. I can understand making concessions because it's a game, but dang...12 types of money!?
Fix the auction house. If it's too hard to come up with something good just copy WOW. They copied everyone else and it was pretty fun system.
Have GM's ingame listening to chat, instantly banning gold sellers.
I can think of more but i'm tired and hungery, it was a busy day at work today. I'll come back tomorrow.
The ability to 'lock the skill bar' would be good.
A sort function in the exchange would be most welcome.
Expanded bridge function would be great.
Also, I'd really like some way to change my energy weapon color. Maybe some kind of command or something that would allow me to set my default color. You could maybe add a check box to turn it off if you didn't want to see it for other players. You could even set it to 'off' by default. Yeah, that'd be great. Cryptic should do this.
simply put more servers or more room yesterday morning i ran fine but today already laggin out i know its just getting started and all but for now thats what i got lol best of luck
structured skills....feel like i am shooting in the dark in this area. hard to convince new or inexperienced players to join sto...or champions for that matter. maybe make suggestions to the player depending on what type of game play they want to participate in until they become more familiar with the game. for example, lets say you want to be a healer/buffer..the game will outline a good set of skills to put you in the right direction.
separation of ground skill trees from space. space is pretty well fleshed out while ground is pretty lackluster. skills are attached to kits for some reason and you pretty much have to do space content to get ground related skills. poorly thought out in my opinion.
more varied things to do...been repeating the same things since I created my character...its really quite boring.
the exchange needs to be improved upon. better search functions. more filters, etc
expanded inventory and the ability to easily sort it.
continued expansion upon player customization....as long as its not put in the C-store....lets think about making the customer happy and subscribed rather than trying to nickel and dime them until they ragequit.
1. More PVE content for the Klingons, maybe not to the same degree of the Federation but much more than currently.
2. New factions such as the Romulans, Dominion, Cardassians Etc added as playable content.
3. Clearer wording on some Missions to stop/limit the questions in Zonechat.
4. A reworking of the ground camera so it follows the direction you face, rather than the current two options.
5. More diplomatic/themed missions that do not involve melting people's faces off with laser guns...we are meant to be Federation Captains! More missions that can be solved by brain rather than brawn in other words.
Multiple outcomes for possible missions. Not every enemy encounter should end with an automatic fight. Let the Jean Luc's try to use diplomacy while the Kirks play space cowboy.
Heres an idea I have for some time now.
Let the 'tutorial' (you know, the easy borg stuff in the beginning) be a kind of training in the Starfleet Academy where it turns out at the end that it was all just a simulation on a holodeck to prepare you for what is to come in your future career.
That would add much more immersion and give the whole borg thing somewhat of a meaning.
As it is now, it seems as if the borg came out of nowhere and went back to nowhere.
Merchant ships, for that to really work the merchant would have to be a class of its own, could be combatsupport for fleets whit buffs and bordingpartyes + weak but usefull ship to ship wepons, the bordingpartyes can steel equipment from npc. ships Credits from player ships, and so on. pirating missions and transport missions for the other factions. Merchant class could include mining and crafting options.
(this could really boost STO Lifespan) as you have to make a new Char to have the merchant/fraighter/miner/crafter captain.
PirateClass. much like the merchant but as a faction of its own. for this to work some sectors would have to be pvp zones where the pirates could attack other players and alot of Npc targets would also need to be added all over the galaxy. if other players then were abel to intersept pirates attacking fraighters/merchants or players it would generate some real interesting random pvp.
(these two clases would also benefit from an actual death penalty, the whole game would. --Life can only exist of you include death-- (how about this, players costumise their own ships, if they blow up they have to fly a standard issiue vertion of their ships class til the starfleet engeneers have had time to outfit a new exact copy of the lost ship, or wait for the "fleet support merchantship" to come repair the burning wreack your in ofc. the Replacement ship you fly will ofc have the usual crew and skills but less fancy modules and wepons. The same could go for ground missions, if your officers go down he could be replaced by a Security personell from the ship, standart issiue wepon and armor.
(This would really stop the grind fest or atleast slow it down, whitout taking the fun away, all win win.)
Where are my random distresscalls?
i know they are included in some missions but how about placing some strange readings on the galaxy map that can be scanned/recieved maby even put on the main wiever. these could be much the same missions as are already in the game, but getting them this way would get the player a real ST Feeling while flying arround.
I bet adding more factions are alreaddy planned so im not gonna complain that i cant be Cardassian yet.
as of right now i can fly from Sol System to the center of Klingon space in less that 5 mins... i think the sectors could use a 400% size enhancement, whit the large interest in the game im sure there is life enough to fill the galaxy. there are lost to do while traveling, replicating, trading, skills placement and i assume soon some interesting things happening on the bridge of the ship we fly and the rest of the ship too. so 400% extra travel time would not be a problem, STO has alot of warping, this would make the game more Star Trek.
how about adding a chareactor editor that can be used to polish your officers and the ship maby while servers are down? it would make the time pass faster and you might not have to put up whit my taughts here. this is your punishment for not having a running server, eat that.
Fleets should get acces to player owned bases whit special crafting options, mines, production facillities, defences, bars and other entertainment, player runn shops.
Platinum?
evrything is werry controlled and to menny that gets boring as you can guess what is going to happen next all the time, large freespace sectors could be added, whit random encounters and planets to fight over and build bases on and arround. its much more fun to have a strong ship if you can use it to protect somthing real whit, if you spend a week gaining control over a planet, by war or influence missions, and you build somthing on it, it becomes much more interesting to be abel to protect it, this would also add meny more interesting demintions to being a fleet.
tonns of more skills, skills for trade, crafting, mining, research, scanning, production, diplomacy, fraightrunning.
Exploration is in need of a major revamp somewhere down the road, hopefully it's one of the first things the devs will look at. At the moment it is just a grind to get badges, the first exploration mission I took I enjoyed a bit, but after that it just got boring. I really like the game but this aspect needs some polish! We need to be able to make first contact, conduct research on pre-warp civilisations (and have it be something more in depth than running round pressing f on stuff) etc.
Planets also need some work IMO, I know that there are so many planets that it would be impractical to do this for all of them, but it would be really nice if some of the main planets (Earth, Vulcan, Risa, Bajor, Qo'noS etc etc) had very large maps like SWG, with several cities and countryside to explore, maybe have a few minor quests to be taken on the surface too. This would obviously be a huge job though, and probably won't happen.
It would also be cool to have some quests that take place on your ship. What about those classic Trek episodes that deal with a crisis on board? Of course this would require interiors to be created too. Would be cool if your ship also gets boarded in some missions and you have to fight on board to defend it.
Would love to see little twists in the exploration missions. Granted, not every single one just the occaisional random adventure tossed in with the scan '5 anomolies' missions. Example: You get the standard Beam down and 'scan 5 anomolies' mission but when you beam down you have to also contend with with something. something as simple as dangerous animal or plant life to a full blown episode hook (super computer running planet and preventing you from beaming out while trying to kill your away team with...robots, weather, controlled indigenous population etc...), primative indigenoues species to contact, vastly superior alien presence looking to enslave, toy with, destroy, or otherwise harass your team and crew...The ruins of an ancient civilization with its defences still intact.
Such exploration adventures could be seeded into the random exploration missions and be programed to flag your character once you complete it so that you don't get that mission over and over. The point of it all is to add a needed spark of anticipation to the exploration missions. Yeah, you might just be scanning anomolies, but there is that chance that the mission might turn out to be something more.
Example Exploration+ mission flow: Ship enters System, BO relates mission is to scan for Dycalthium deposits...Away team beams down, BO reaffirms scanning for the deposites...After 2 deposites have been scanned the BO relates scanning several life forms in the area apparently pacing/paralelling the Team (Game now adds several alien mobs to the landscape mobs can be anything, Hostile plant life/alien predators/primative aliens (Tribal culture) Final 3 anomolies need to be procured while avoiding/fighting/Talking to? the mobs
Example Exploration++ mission flow: Starts as above...At the completion of the 'Scan the anomolies' part, a BO will relate scanning an unusual power source in the vicinity. a couple mobs are added to the map themed to the "Boss" of the mini adventure between the away team and the location of the 'boss.' Robots, controled population, controled alien animals, animated terrain etc...The boss must be defeated OR talked with for the away team to be allowed to leave its dominioins. Optimally the Boss would be in a small complex with defenders apropriate to it. (Boss Examples: diembodies alien super brain, super computer/robot/andraoid, energy being, 'god-like' entity like Apollo/Metrons/ Orgainians/ Even 'Q'

Oh and non standard Fed ships. i hate having a pirate background and having to fly one of those Fed ships.

Can you change the design so if a Captain chooses to sit in their chair , results in the same scenario as beaming out of the bridge...
Thankyou
P.S..
I want my own quaters to look at my trophies and Klingon head above my fireplace...

Civilian clothing for Risa would be nice too. ;-)
Just my 2 energy Credits
could attack the klingons in space,or beam down and take out their HQ or something like that
