So during the patch from last night, I find out that they no longer allow players to customize there weapon color. All because some noobs who couldn't figure it out starting QQing. Really!! And don't cry to me about it not being immersive, if that was the case then you wouldn't have uniform customization, there would be NO crystalline entity, NO Doomsday device, when you do the time travel mish, the TOS era ships wouldn't be on par with this era ships.
Now if Cryptic never meant for that to be accessable then fine, show a link to it and whatever. But if you want this game to last a long time, which it has the potential to do, it can not be made to appease just the trekkies.
Part of immersion is being able to modify to your likeing to make the game more enjoyable!!!

P.S. No I didn't change my weapon color.
Its pretty safe to assume that it was never intended, considering you had to use an unpublished slash command to do it. If they had ever intended it to be there it would have been much more obvious, with color sliders, etc.
The train has sailed my friend. No point in being mad about this, Cryptic took it out, they will not return it. The lore zealouts will ensure you play the game as they see fit. haha.
It actually had nothign to do with the players, if Cryptic could it may have let players change colours but CBS has final word on what is supposed to look like and purple and pink lazers are not StarTrek.
Please, there are LOADS of other threads about this already. We don't need the forums clogging up with a million different posts saying the same thing.
Hop over to one of those threads where the discussion is alive and well.

It was a bug, they fixed it. Nothing more.
None of the commands were published. So your logic is flawed.
They said that to appease the QQ'ers. Funny that the smallest, insignificant bug was corrected before almost every other bug. That's what you call a PR fix.

Absurd statement. If the "lore zealots" had ANY bearing on this game, there would be no cryptic designed ships, it would not be set 30 years after nemesis, everyone would be wearing the same uniforms, there would be no personal shields or body armor, everyone would use the same starfleet issue weapons, interiors would be sanely scaled, you could go on forever.
In fact, the "lore zealots" have absolutely zero influence on this game. This was a bug and an eyesore and most likely a minor breech of the terms of IP license. It was broken, and got fixed. Nothing more.

Yes they (a forum member) did, and they published all of the known commands.
appease the QQ'ers?
arent you technically the QQ'er atm?
smallest bugs are the easiest to fix this was as simple as removing the
command so its bust to get it out of the way
now anyways everyone please get over this issue and get back in game
have fun dont complain
Three concerns I can see where it was going to go regardless of all other factors.
1. Eye strain. The disco show in SB24 gave me a headache and I'm not even mildly epileptic. With quite a few people openly stating that they play the game for anywhere up to 20 hours at a time (seriously - get some sleep!), I sure wouldn't want to have things any more intensive on the retina than they had to be. That's a class-action lawsuit and a ratings board health warning just waiting to happen tbh, especially in America where people will sue just about anyone, for just about anything and probably win.
2. IP concerns. When it comes to license holders contracting a third party to create a derivative work, they usually only give the third party creative oversight on elements which are specific to their product. Uniform colours, what the hell. Game-exclusive ship designs, Cryptic can do what they want with those. Anything that appears in licensed Star Trek media outside the game, though, has to be kept within the established parameters unless Cryptic are given permission to the contrary.
Some companies are more liberal with this. Some aren't. The higher the ego/arrogance/complacency/profit margin, the lower the creative freedom. When you're dealing with a corporate entity whose annual profits rival the GDP of a small Eastern European nation, more often than not you've got your genitalia shackled to the floor.
3. Was never a planned feature, just some straggling remnant lurking in the system. In my experience, when you have "loose cannon" code just left lying around, there is no doubt that it is going to break things. It may not be that day, week, month or even year, but you can bet your TRIBBLE it will break something, someday. Removing redundant code is the most efficient way to avoid having to fix a hundred and one bugs later, for a feature you haven't even implemented.
All in all, removing it was the smart thing for Cryptic to do, since they stated themselves they have no intention of ensuring that it's properly implemented.

You may be right about some things there. But to try and say the lore-QQer's didn't whine non-stop about "pink lasers" would be wrong. Cryptic took it out, it shouldn't have been in game anyway.

I have come up with a Solution that Cryptic Should think about its linked in my sig...
when a phaser is suppose to be orange and a disruptor is suppose to be green, then how would you know what your enemy is using against you if you can just make it any color you want.
How can you tell if someone has a unique or special weapon?
(in other words, keep crying, because that is all that is going to happen.)
Wow. If STAR TREK online want to be successfull it cannot appease to trekkies.
OP's logic massive epic fail.
Casual gamers, be quiet. We, trekkies and lore-lovers have been waiting patiently for this game since A Final Unity. You have been waiting since 2008. So know your role and shut your mouth.
It was a bug, simple as that. I twas never intended.
end of story.
And i have to be elitist and agree with this:
Casual gamers, be quiet. We, trekkies and lore-lovers have been waiting patiently for this game since A Final Unity. You have been waiting since 2008. So know your role and shut your mouth.
And add my own:
This is our game. The trekkies. As a whole, as a community. This is our game.
Not yours. WE have been waiting for this, and we will damn make sure it gets done right.
Unlike you, who can ruin our game and mass up and scream about immersion being BS and so on, then leave to the next pretty mmo that comes out, we will be here and stuck with the mess you guys make out of our trek for your 'fun'
And if cryptic wants to make the most money over a long period of time? They will listen to US, not you. Why? because trekkies sink money into star trek games, and always have, and if they give us what we want, we will stick by them till the next star trek mmo appears in like, 4-5 years time.
Well said Kitsunami - having lived through SOE's disgraceful handling of SWG in their misguided hope that they could attract the WoW crowd, I'm hoping Cryptic, Atari and CBS will remember that as long as they keep the Trek fans happy they'll always have players.
Im ashamed to say im never an elitist before, but STO is making me one.
I love star trek, and ill be damned if i let Cryptic make this game into another SWG failure, where they try for the WoW kiddies who cant play games at all, and end up losing the core, then have nobody left so the game fails.
I love you cryptic, keep it up :P
Really. You other people, none trekkies, are the minority. You will be listened to, but never if your 'opinion' goes against the trekkie mass. Why is that unfair? Its simple really.

Cryptic stated it as a bug. That's logic enough.
if I remember somebody wrote how to do it

My dear enemy I must agree with you here. Please post in one of the already existing threads.
Haha, you can't. The other threads have been locked.
Oh really? Well in that case this new thread looks comfy.
Edit: this one isn't locked http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=103303&page=9
This. I wish the terms of the IP license let them tell that to the player base. At leat it would put a stop to these idiotic threads!
If that is indeed the case, agreed. My dear adversary.

Trekkies = longterm cash
You = short term cash
Cryptic, if smart = Want long term cash.
If it was a "random space shooter" online then fair enough, not here though.
