Visual critique of the T4 Fed cruisers...

Have people also noticed how UGLY the Celestial and the Envoy T4 ships are?

The engines on both of those ships stick WAY back. Maybe if we could have those crazy slanted pylons from the Celestial anchored more forward on the lower hull, it would work. The Envoy pylons look bad...just...bad.

The Celestial's engines look over-sized and ungainly. My wife says they look like toothpaste tubes. They are too large and cylindrical to fit with any other ship parts...and don't really work well with the Celestial. I think they are too large around, and should be angular (like a Sovereign) OR more oval shaped. The Celestial's neck has a really cheesy lump in the middle back with an impulse engine. That looks VERY out of place. Also, the saucer on the Celestial takes all the graceful profile of the Galaxy saucer, and bloats it vertically until it looks awkward. Not too bad, but still kind of ungainly. It isn't TOO out of place. Its lower hull is not bad, and I like the light underneath it in the back, so it isn't a complete loss. Heck, I'm even considering using that part.

The Envoy is just freaking UGLY. It does not fit at all. If you look at its engines from the front, they look like the front end of...well...something that would get this post edited by a dev if I mentioned it. My wife certainly noticed it, without any prompting from me. ;) Every part of it is just brutally ugly, and its silhouette is laughable. Seriously...I can not think of any part of it that looks good. Since all of its parts have sharp edges and freaky square bumps, they don't ever mesh well with the parts from the other two T4 ships. It always looks out of place. This ship just does not fit with the others.

I made a long post already on the flaws that spoil the Galaxy model, so I will not go over that there. However, it is still better than these other two. Please, at some point, send these two to the scrap yard (or at least the Envoy) and give us some better options. Preferably ones that look sorta-graceful (so we can pretend our ship turns worth a darn) and most of all FIT EACH OTHERS' LOOKS FOR CUSTOMIZATION.

I don't think they're any worse than any of Cryptic's other new ship designs, and better than some.

(Have you seen the T3 Science Vessels? The T2 Escorts?)

Saber-style escorts? What's wrong about them?

Olympic-class ships are an acquired taste. I think most people don't dislike it. It's a fine ship to have around. Not everyone, though, wants to be stuck captaining it for awhile, though.

    * * *

The Celestial is tolerable. I wouldn't mind seeing NPC ships being Celestials.

The Envoy-class is - and I ask forgiveness to the people whom worked on it - an eyesore. I cannot believe how some players actually pick it up and play with it anyways. I did notice how some of the geometry seemed to hint at design lines we can see with the Shikahr, and it does look very mean, but I definitely do not like it.

Though, now that I think about it, the model used for the Envoy would probably fit spectacularly well as a Mirror Universe exploration cruiser.

Personally, I was disappointed not to see the first ship that cropped up as an example of ship customization in the game. Inspired from one of John Eaves designed for STO back when it was worked on by Perpetual Entertainment, it also appeared in the first Cryptic STO trailers. We actually can see a model of it in the first Deep Space Encounter we have access to in the Sirius Sector Block as a derelict ship we warp in close to.

It looks like the ship at the bottom left of this picture.

Frankly, that ship, to me, looked like it was an ideal future galaxy-class variant just like the Excalibur-class is a Sovereign-ized Constitution-class. Change saucer, change neck, change engineering hull, change struts and change nacelles... and it felt like a good fit. I'm baffled by how it's not in the game (along with John Eaves' Tahoe-class, which also showed up in the early trailer briefly). Heck, even the Donut-saucer ships (also called Peace Signs) and the Spatula-saucer with downswept nacelle struts are missing.

Trailer. The Tahoe appears at 1:11. The possible would-be Galaxy variant shows up around 1:03, 1:16 and it blows up at 1:17.

Heck, where's the Galaxy-variant people found ugly? Didn't they nickname it Legoprise? I haven't seen it either. I'm not saying Cryptic should've had - it hardly received glamorous comments... but some of the other ships have (like the one I pointed out on the wallpaper image) and it would've been nice to see something such as that one.

The T3 science ships look great and the Olympic is not a Cryptic original It was in TNG. One of the T2 Escorts are also in a TNG movie and doesn't look bad.

I'm surprised you can see them well enough from your mom's basement to complain this much.

And one of the T4 Cruisers is in TNG very prominently, which doesn't make the other two at that tier any less ugly.

I was talking only about the ones Cryptic's art department made. The Ushaan, for example, is an uninspired pointy mess. The Horizon, with its giant bubble dome, not only looks out of scale, it really doesn't look like a Federation ship, or even a Star Trek ship.

Plus, the olympic class ship actually appeared in the series (an episode set in the future)

Edit: whoops, was a bit late on that.
