Let's keep this subject alive so the devs see how many people are angry at this ill-advised decision.

Aye aye cap'n. Ok some one mentioned having set colors for certain weapons that can be altered at the shipyard for a set amount of energy credits allowing colors to remain canon but still allowing individualization. Also other have mentioned check boxes.

Edit: also the flat out removal option

A check box, though it would take some time to implement would be a terrific solution to this. Give us the ability to toggle it on or off and we'll all be happy.

If there's one thing I have learned in my days as a programmer, don't EVER remove functionality; instead, give it as an OPTION to toggle so that people can have it the way they want. For something in the millions of customizable options in this game, why take this one away completely?

Focus on explaining why you want the feature, not telling the other posters their views are not valid. This goes for both sides.

I agree completely with hues being removed.
Having them entirely negates the purpose of weapon colors.

And the proper color is crucial for target priorities.
Say your being fired on someone with a blue phaser and someone with a tretryon beam.
At this point the person with the tetryon beam poses the greatest threat because of its +10% bonus of damage to shields, but how will you tell in the heat of battle?

And agree that this totally needed a new thread also. Really.

I agree for it being removed. In PVP i would much rather know what the hell my enemy is using to shoot at me with.

    Really? I'm greatful personally.

Are you ? Really ? Have you looked at those "canon" uniform some people wear ?

Have you looked at those nice shiny color that hurt my eyes everytime I cross one of those so called "captain" that wear pink, purple, green, magenta, cyan uniform colors ?

That's nice from Cryptic to have removed those yea ... Very nice ... What about the 100 spam a day I got in my mail boxe ? What about the fact that I cannot use any of the retail drivers coming with my video card because the Cryptic "fine" framework is unable to handle the render correctly ? What about the pain and suffering we all had during the head start ?

Just as a remininder to all of the so called fans of Star Trek ... Star Fleet BANNED the use of disruptors/plasma/tetryon weapons for medical and humanitary reasons.
No regulation of any kind should have lifted that but Cryptic did. Why not colored phasers ?
There is NO technical limitation to support that decision but ...

This is just another exemple of the power of money, despite the fact that many people have expressed theit feeling about the ability to color their phasers.

    Bah ...

You should have called the game Champion Star Cryptic, merged Champions Online with "Star Trek" *sigh* and allow people to do anything ... I feel really sorry for the poor Gene. He must be turning around in his grave. Rest in piece Star Trek ...

There also was a suggestion to make this only work for PvE content, and that you would only have your own phasers change colors and not other players.

Example: I change all my phasers/weapons to Blue. I see every weapon I have as Blue, but you are attacking me and still see the proper colors. It's like it would be a UI customization only for your ship and on your computer.

The sound? The look? THEY LOOK DIFFERENT.
What the hell game are some people playing that you can't tell a weapon by it's beam texture and sound effect?
Are you playing with the sound off with unfocused eyes? Well you know, that's not my problem. Hook up your speakers and get some glasses.

Would you support a check box if that were offered or the ability to have a set color range for weapons that could be altered which still allows you to see what type of weapon something is. Such as disrupters being able to be a darker green or a lighter green rather than all disrupters being the same green?

I honestly don't care so long as on my client side, Your phasers look like phasers. PvP is the only reason I play this game and could honestly care less about canon, but being able to distinguish weapon types is important.

How about, Cryptic, that you start fixing the following:

Activation and cooldown of Target Subsystem skills that Then don't actually apply the target subsystem stat to the phaser banks.

Hope Class T3 science ship firing it's torpedoes UPWARDS.

Hope Class T3 science ship having a blue sphere following underneath it when jumping out.

DSE's in Iota Povanis still listed as "Eliminate klingons".

All of that has been in since CB.

I second this. Weapon colors have non-trivial meaning in this game.

I honestly must agree that this was a highly under-considered action on part of Cryptic. I, for one, loved the powerhue function. I also will add to the argument of the amount of non-cannon material already in the game.

Now, that being said, I'm a full advocate of the client based changes, or the check box options for those with a more cannon-focus for playing the game. I have no issue with that, or with them. What I do have issues with, and evidentally the devs as well, are the people on both sides of the argument who resort to insults, personal attacks and flaming just to try to 'prove' their side of the issue.

STO is first and foremost a game. Yes, it is a game based within a very well defined IP with set styles and nuances which would make it just another sci-fi IP if it were lacking. If they were shooting for a completely cannon environment however, they they need to disable character customization, ship customization and restrict weapon types across both factions. Seeing as this is not the case though, the reasoning behind removing just another sense of character customization is baffling.

Some may argue that it's a left over function from CO that was never intended to be part of the game. OK, that's fine. CO was just a test for the platform that would eventually be running STO anyways. But the problem is, people found the code, and used the code, and told their friends about it. It became something people both liked and disliked, as any intended function is. My belief is that they should have treated this function as such and put more thought into better control and implementation to make both parties happy.

This, however is simply my opinion. I'm just as entitled to mine, as you are yours. I just choose to word mine more respectfully.

Why, the other 2 threads got locked, and there were more pro people than here.

I think the pro people from those thread have gotten it into their minds that Cryptic doesn't give 2 peanuts about them... Or us, for that matter.

The given reason for denying colors are weak and contradictory:
    - Not Canon Argument:
--- Uniforms: In the game are 5 billion uniform combinations. This is not canon. Doesn't even make sense to have so many different uniforms in existence.
--- Ships: Multi-colored patterns on ships. This is also not canon.

    And lest we forget,
    - Subscribers will always ask for this.
    - Many MMOs currently offer personalized powers/effects (CO, COX) so there is precedent in general, and established precedent in particular by Cryptic to grant this.
-If not now, someone in the future will return powerhue. So long as there is demand, there will be a need to respond to that demand. They'll probably make a big announcement too like they are doing something big.

This. It was never intended to be in the game, so stop crying that it was removed.

It's like saying you want them to put back the bug where male characters sometimes appear to have female bodies. It's a bug that got fixed for the better of the game, not some feature they removed arbitrarily.
