Where are all the happy people?

Is it me?

Online, the chat channel is filled with "this is rubbish", "that doesn't work" "cryptic should....", "I can't believe that they....".

People also seem to enjoy flaming each other, helpful advice is often clogged up with sarcastic comments.

These forums seem the same too, take the thread "how not to waste skill points again ever" in the advice section. Some guy goes to the trouble to explain his views on how the BO points work in his experience. First two responses say "thanks". The others are either a) slating him for being WRONG! (how dare he) or slating STO for not doing it their way "why isn't there a 'kill every ship in the area' skill at level one, this game is rubbish".

MMORPG's are what you make of them. can't we all just be nice to each other and have a little patience with STO while it finds its feet? I know it costs money, but I don't know of a game worthy of the name that didn't have glitches and bugs when it first came out.....But one of the major factors for people playing an MMO is the community....

If you don't like the way it's done, why not do us a favour and vote with your feet instead of bringing the rest of us down about it all?

Or is it me? where are the happy people?

It's not human nature to discuss the positive. :/

Most people would rather focus on the negatives.

Then again the game might just simply be poor. Why is that never a possibility?

It is a possibility. But that's a matter of opinion, so poor/good is not a "truth."

    most people are
    1) Busy working
    2) taking in RL
    3) Asleep
    4) palying the game rather than posting in forums

Only reason forums busy is due to the maintenance going on atm

Well, I'm generally happy with the game, overall. There's a few things that are blatantly missing or unfinished, and the game has an overall "Rushed out the door by Atari" feel to it that I've come to expect from Atari. (Didn't those guys go out of business in the 80s? LOL?)

But due to the general unhappiness of the population that you've mentioned, and is hard not to notice when you're playing the game, I tend to keep to myself, keep chat closed, try not to get caught up in the flames and sarcasm in the game while playing.

I guess I'm like a lot of other folks: Too busy trying to enjoy the game that's there instead of complain about the game that I think it should be.

I'm a lifer, though, so I probably have a zen attitude about it and what I hope Cryptic eventually does to make everything better.

Plus, I'm an older gamer, who has been there for quite a few MMO launches, and most of this is stuff I've already been battle hardened by.

honestly this. It's also why the News is filled with negative..people dying...earth threatening storms/quakes/etc...death destruction.

we as a race thrive on the negative for some pathetic reason.

far as the forums go...by default forums are the most negative...it's where unhappy people and trolls come to complain, whine, and...troll (yes some just get off on trolling for the sake of it.) People happy are playing...

I come to the forums because it's what I do when I'm bored...I see the positive and negative of this game and really don't sway more to one or the other side (well since I sub you can say I swing more towards positive)

but it is funny..to be honest...other then Champions Online and Star Trek Online I've not played an MMO (and I've tried 99% of them all) where most of the chat is filled with poeple complaining about how the game plays etc...it is actually something to be concerned over..whether you agree with those people or not...if numbers dwindle because most aren't happy the game WILL suffer.

    5) in Fleets, talking to their friends. After I joined a fleet and shut off the Local and Zone-chats, I enjoy the game a lot more. :)

    Hello OP,
You've just experienced server maintenance time on the forums.
When the servers are up, the forums go quiet(er) than usual.

A (maybe) half-complete product that b-stardizes intellectual property is grounds for "poor" regardless of whether a person likes it or doesn't.

    For instance, flies love TRIBBLE.

it is the nature of man, even if we had everything we would still find things to complain about.

Anyway remember that most people just read forums, they dont post as they see no need to join the..show.

I'm enjoying the game myself. Is there room for improvement, sure. But it's no worse than any other MMORPG at such an early stage, and a damn site better than a lot of them have been. That is, of course, my opinion, based on my experiences over the last 12 years of playing online games.

I was happy. My internetz got shaped for too much downloadage, so now the patching is going slow. That makes me angry.

Otherwise I'd not be on these forums and I'd be in the game instead. Still having a blast!

What he said, pretty much. I have some issues with the game but I'm having fun so far and am too busy playing than to pay attention to idiots in zone chat.

Happy person here! I agree wiht you completely, but having tried to post a few threads like this myself I can tell you that you are wasteing your time - people will even use this thread to complain about the game lol. I've come to the conclusion that the forum is for whineing (I dont mind constructive criticism) while most people are in the game happily playing. There are many tragic people on this forum still posting after claiming to have cancelled their sub or gotten a refund - if they're not here to speak grief then I dont know why they are.

The people that like the game are busy playing.
Though the game does have some issues overall I like it and am having a good time.
Also some of the chronic complaining in the game chat may lessen once the game purchase grace period expires.

Look. I hear what you're saying, man. And I can dig it.

But this is the internet, bro! And an MMO on top of that. The untamed masses of the worlds nerds assemble here for a battle of supremacy. ....Or you can just call it trolling.

I love trolling sometimes. It can be funny, witty, and just what a ridiculous discussion needs sometimes. I've seen a great lot of this kind here. When I think of that, I have to smile.

But what I also see, is a bunch of people trying to jump on that bandwagon when they can't even walk so to speak. There are some mean, bitter spiteful people. Sometimes I just want to give them a piece of my mind. ARTISTIC TROLL FAIL. They suck at trolling so in their futile attempt to grasp at the troll king title they end up saying something cruel and idiotic.

I know that I'll never have a relationship in STO with that person. Because they'll either be

    1. Gone after 30 days for the most part. Stragglers will soon quiet down.

    2. End up getting banned or shunned for their behavior.

Whatever comes first, more power to them. Because for me... I just don't listen to them. They are background noise to me. I find cool people all over STO. Its an interesting place filled with filthy space aliens.... bunch of borg bodies soon. Then will be the day of my YUMSKI and the thanksgiving dinner begins.

Re. OP: It's an MMO forum. If you look up 'unpleasable fanbase' in the dictionary you will find a picture of MMO players.

The happy people aren't showing up on the forums because they're too busy having fun on the game.

Well I'm glad to have started debate. I guess I was just getting down with all the negativity. It's good to see lots of people saying "actually I'm having fun", I feel warm and fuzzy now. :)

    In terms of complaints being negative, you're right, no, not of themselves. But the difference is;

"It would be nice if there were more non combat orientated ground missions, perhaps with puzzles to solve, but appreciate cryptic have more important things right now, but hopefully one day".

That is a complaint, but positive.

"this game was rushed out the door, it sucks, why did cryptic not test it properly, I tell you what, If I was there <bleurgh, blah, drivel>"

THAT'S is a negative, and there is way too much of it.

Like others have said, I have turned off chat and just talk to my fleet, which is a shame as there are good guys out there. I too am an older gamer and remember Warcraft not being on for more than two hours at a time for the first month, SWG always being full of bugs, EVE is not the paragon that people seem to think, doesn't stop me loving any of them.

Finally though, I agree with the main sentiment of the positivists here. I too will go now and have too much darn fun to whinge about the game. As a lifer, I too probably have a zen attitude to it all.

This game has the potential to blow all of the other sci-fi mmos away, it has the IP, it has the engine and it has the will, so I am going to enjoy every minute of it.

    LLAP all,

    See you in space!

There are so many unhappy people around, Im HAPPY to be with a happy fleet.
I hope that people will relax and stop creating bad karma for themselves and others on the game.

Anyway, see you all in game!
