My thoughts on C-Store

Honestly I think Cryptics current business model is flawed and underhanded. The reason is they are charging us 14.99/month (the standard MMO monthly fee) but asking us to purchase additional content that should have been free at launch.

I know people are going to say you don't have to buy it but that's not the point. What happens when they start adding new ship model via C-Store and charge you for them instead of just adding it. How would you feel if they only offered one ship design per tier and you had to buy the rest? That is the slippery slope Cryptic is walking right now.

If Cryptic wants to charge us for additional content then they should lower the month fees to 9.99 - 12.99. That would actually be fair to the entire conmunity player base.

Like I said, Cryptic is on a slippery slope right now and the choices the community makes as to whether embrace RMT items or ignore them will not only determine future business models of not only Cryptic but future MMO's in general.

Slippery Slope is actually a logical fallacy (Studied logic) that indicates a BAD argument... which you happen to be using as SUPPORT of your argument.

    Anyway...

I do not mind the C-Store at all. There has been MANY times in MANY games I thought to myself I'd pay a buck or two or three for this, this, or that without it causing massive altercations in gameplay.

As always Dyvid, you're opinion is as important to me as everyone else who also has no business sense or understanding.

I'll make sure to contact Cryptic and let them know they're the first company to do micro-transactions.

Well as the old Earth proverb says "A fool and their money is soon departed." Enjoy paying extra money for free content.

If you have to pay for it, it's not free.

If you're going to quote proverbs, quote them correctly. "Departed" doesn't even make sense there.

Until you can buy something that gives you a tactical advantage and isn't available in the game to be earned, they can put whatever they want in the C-Store.

Well I love ships, so if they put a nice looking ship on the C store I would buy it. I put some money aside for the C store actually. It's kinda neat seeing what they might add. If it's TRIBBLE then no, the C store wont see a dime

If they'd put the Nebula-class into the C-store, I'd buy it right now. Please and thank you.

I don't think it's logically possible to pay extra money for free content...

    The definitions are in opposition.

Although I somewhat agree that if the c-store continues on this slippery slope, eventually it will turn into a slave trade/drug market.

Way I see it, aside from the special trait, the Klingon you buy in the C-Store is nothing but a way for lazy people to pay money to avoid doing work. Everything you need to make that exact same Klingon (sans the Honorable trait) is already available to you in the custom alien creator.

You can either roll up your sleeves and spend an extra 10-15 minutes to build the klingon head yourself from the hundreds of different options, or you can pay Cryptic a couple bucks to do the work for you.

Falls under the same saying that applies to food: "You can have it fast, cheap, or good. Pick 2."

ok, it is purely cosmetic content at this time.
There is not a single bit you need. Even on CO, the store is not something you must have.
Fluff items, either you want it or you dont. Many MMO's are using this option. There are plenty of games out there that do not however, if you are opposed to their business practices so much spend your money elsewhere and vote with your dollar.

"A fool and his money are soon parted" is the correct way to repeat the old proverb.

"Free content" is free. "Paid for content" is paid for. Simple concepts.

You as the purchaser are entitled to pay for what you want or not pay for what you do not want. You are NOT entitled to dictate which content is free and which is paid, unless you are running the business that provides the content. This is a little more higher-level concept and is based in a humanity-wide "truth". ;)

Silly people who think their $15 a month entitles them to everything under the sun. That subscription entitles you to play.

period. If you want the extras and shinies...then you pay, the world isn ot some socialist commune where everyone is just given everything they want.

I dont really care. I got 500 points for free and transactions like this are the wave of the MMO future, so deal with it.

The Ferengi costs ONE DOLLAR in C-Store credits

I'd rather give a developer money for content than give a "chinese gold farmer" cash money and flood the market.

    Fixed.

Oh and I will say one more thing.

You people should be now asking yourselves why, since the game has only just launched, this very month, that this current cash shop 'fluff' was not included in the game you just bought? I mean seriously, the code was already in there, from closed beta and they pulled it back to charge you for it now.

There was one other game in the past that had done this and recieved a lot of critisism for. They basically released the game and then later placed DLC on xbox live. The poor saps who paid for this DLC were horrified to learn that this content was already on the disk had already been made and all they paid for was the damn code to unlock it.

    Beautiful Katanaii.

    http://news.filefront.com/new-beautiful-katamari-dlc-is-a-ripoff/

I say again to those who don'tt seem/want to see this truth.

    You are being ripped off.

DLC/cash shop/expansions should come WELL AFTER LAUNCH. Its proof the game is still in development, its what you get for subscribing, your subs pay for the game to be constantly improved/revised/added too. If the file is substantial, you are required to pay for it. BUT ONLY WAY AFTER LAUNCH! Other wise, it SHOULD BE INCLUDED FROM THE START.
