The great Tribble breeding thread

Ahoy there folks.

As some of you no doubt know by know. Tribbles eat your food and make more tribbles. What even less of you may know is that sometimes you get rare tribbles that instead of healing you outside of combat will give you a damage or defense buff (supposedly these are spotted tribbles)

I personally have yet to see one of these. But I have concluded that I must be scientific! I must document all this to see if there is a pattern. So that is what I began doing this morning when I got a tribble.

I leave the little bugger alone in my inventory with one kind of food and wait to see what happens.

So then folks I want you to do the same. Let us gather data to determine if there is a pattern to the tribble breeding.

Post your results here in the thread and I'll add them in when I get a chance. Check this thread to see what hasn't been done. Remember just leave the one tribble and one item of food in your inventory recording both and the result.

Currently documented Tribble types:

In order from left to right of standard healing Tribbles:

White Tribble (Grex Susilo).
Cream(beige?) Tribble
Grey Tribble (Grex Vitales).
Light Brown Tribble
Brown Tribble (Grex Dotson).
Dark Brown Tribble (Grex Thompson).
Light Brown/Brown striped Tribble.

In order from left to right of damage buff Tribbles:

Brown/Light Brown spotted Tribble.

The big Tribble breeding list:

Here is a much better laid out guide to food and tribbles.

Brown Tribble (Grex Dotson) list:

Feline Supplement 74 = White Tribble (Grex Susilo)

Banana Pancakes = White Tribble (Grex Susilo)

Croissant = White Tribble (Grex Susilo)

Flaked blood fleas = Dark Brown Tribble (Grex Thompson)

Extra info on Tribbles:

It is confirmed that Tribbles breed in your bank vault. Unknown if they breed in fleet vaults though.

Also here is some breeding information from IfniLuck but it uses breeds instead of colours so not able to put it in yet. Still could be useful.

I'm game. Although won't get to try it out until later today, after work.

One question. How often do they breed?

    Time seems to vary dramatically.

I have reports of near instant breeding although in my cases it has taken a lot of time. Might be affected by food amount and number of tribbles.

One other question... how are we going to reference what color is what? I've got a number already from just breeding (I wasn't watching what they ate). But I've got a number that are various shades of brown already.

Well, I can say I had 1 tribble yesterday, when I logged in I had 2 in my inventory. Had 2 food items when I logged out, had 1 and an extra tribble the next day. Thought I wasn't paying attention to what I was picking up, when I got my first tribble I left it in my inventory, came back and had enough to give each BO one. No spotted yet, only light brown, brown and dark brown.

Argh thats true. I've got dark brown and just brown one so far forgot about the varying shades. **** thats going to be a pain.

Screenshot time I guess. I'll have to make a colour chart of known Tribble colours

There we go some updates to make it easier to tell what you're dealing with. I'll take screenshots of each tribble kind as I get em

Well I have about 8 of them so far. 2 diffrent shades of brown, 1 choclate brown, 1 white with brown spots, 3 white and one I would call dark grey not exactly black but pretty close. All are of the heal type. The dark grey has almost a navy blue aura to it when used...

So wait the spotted tribble is not a combat buff one?

Im going for a family tree tribble.

My first tribble I put into a slot on my character, Im pretty sure he doesnt eat any food as hes not in my inv.
The second one I picked up I put it in the lower right hand slot of my inv and let it eat,

Once I had a new tribble I delete the "father" original and move the new one into the bottom right slot, so far iv got about 10 doing this but everyone has had the same stats, 1.2/6 secs, just a different breed name.

I had high hopes when I found a Haggis food item (im from Scotland) but tho the tribble ate it there was nothing special about it. I think I was looking for a tartan tribble or something :)

Also one guy supposedly got a combat buff tribble from a white tribble consuming klingon blood wine

The single color tribbles are just to look at and do nothing special.

There are several varieties of patterned tribbles.

If you have one with a large stripe and dots, it will on occasion give a 5 minute buff, but mostly is as useless as the solid color ones.

The hour buff tribbles come in two varieties. Either an hour health buff, or an hour damage buff.

    Healing
Large stripe - dark tribble, light stripe
Dots - Dark tribble, light dots

    Damage
Dots - Light tribble, dark dots

There may be a large stripe light tribble with dark stripe I have not seen that would make it two of each type but I've been breeding them quite a bit for the last few days and nothing new has cropped up.

The patterned tribble that is not an hour debuff definitly has a stripe down the middle and small dots on the sides of the stripe.

To breed them esaily, I keep a row of 6 tribbles in my first line of inventory. I throw whatever I find or feel like buying in the 2nd row (or more, depending on desired space use). They reproduce roughly once an hour and will make anywhere from 1 to 5 or so new tribbles, seems fairly random.

The type of food seems entirely random, but I haven't paid enough attention to make a call on that. They have eaten pretty much everything I've found on the ground, and a wide variety of replicator food. I have gotten rare tribbles off of nothing but replicator food and off nothing but random drop food.
The color of tribbles needed for the rare ones also seems to make no difference.

I have bred 6 health tribbles and 3 damage tribbles so far with almost no extra effort on my part. All of my away team carries a health tribble. Yes they still pet them incessantly after each battle and sometimes it takes 1 or 2 fights to get all of them rolling with the buffs.

**I am color blind, so if there are two tone tribble that are shaded, I can't tell, they look like standard brown or tan or white or cream to me, but they don't see to do anything special either.

Thats the genetically altered wheat from TOS episode with K7. I have not seen it in game anywhere yet, that might be a joke.

But If your going to look I'd start at K7.

    That's... pretty cool,

do you know if you can breed them in your bank? I'm game to give it a try.. keep the lil' buggers in my bank and drop off food and try to document what I drop off, and what is the result. ^_^

You mentioned damaged tribbles? Care to explain more?

Yes, you can breed them in your bank. I found that out accidentally when I put one in there with 5 foods, and when I logged back in I had no food and 6 tribbles.

Anyone try the types of food yet? Feed them the same type of food for each different color type and see what they make. I'm going to try this tonight, might take a while but I can do one in the bank and one in my inventory, so 2 tribbles per breeding. I'll let you know what I find.

Ah, well I was doing it all wrong. Now I understand why both me and the tribbles were so uncomfortable when it came to the breeding process. lol

Kidding aside thanks for the heads up on the varieties of them. Didn't realize there were buffs associated with the various colors. I'll have to pay more attention to what tribbles I got now.

FYI, you can equip them on your BOs and they will pet them too.

Damaged tribbles come from broken homes, and substandard living conditions.

They often bite without being provoked, and will steal money from your wallet to purchase illicit drugs.

First thing' first ... I'm very ... very ... drunk. And that's IRL. Don't ask, cause I won't tell. If you've been reading /b/ for the last 4 hours you might know. Otherwise tough.

In my beta and pre-release experience I noticed that most Tribbles were solid color except for the few exceptions of a multi-colored Tribble I received. It didn't require any special doing or special food that I noticed ... I just had 9 or so food/drink items and one randomly appeared. I never tested it's affects but I noticed that the first page of this thread didn't show one. It was a multi-colored Tribble that seemed no different from any other except for it's color. I don't know if this helps ... don't really care. Just adding it to the database.

    Carry on ...

The thread is about you breeding tribbles, not you trying to mate with them yourself :P
In my experience, the type of food you feed the tribble has no effect on what type you get, however I haven't done any controlled experiments, I just chucked a load of food and a couple of tribbles in my bank, waited a few days and then set up a maternity ward on my ship...

No, Quadrilicale exists, I seen it many times during missions. And there is no food vendor at K7.

    Some foods can be replicated.

Here's my chart so far, based on the ones I've seen. I haven't been keeping track of what food makes what tribble, but here's what the breeds look like so far.

I have no idea what food items might lead to what tribbles (if any).. so it may be random, or it may be about what you feed them. who knows?

Hey Gash, what do you think about updating your first post in order to include any new and relevant information regarding tribble breeds, color patterns and abilities as well as the various methods and other tribble tidbits that other members have generated throughout the post? This way anyone that clicks on this thread can quickly get the big picture and continue this "scientific endeavor" without having to scroll through the pages.

    Just a suggestion :)

I'm quite excited about breeding tribbles now, I had no idea there were rare varieties and buffs associated with them! I noticed last night that I got a light brown one with dark brown horizontal stripes. I'll keep an eye out for the spotted ones~

Yes I know I was away so I'm updating now.

And as for the chart thank you very very much the one who posted that up. And if someone can get some of that weird wheat and try it out I'd be very appreciative.
