Sadly I don't find the game as I see it compelling enough to pay for and play. The lack of depth and lack of ship interiors that have any meaning. The lack of development of the game overall. there is just not enough to do socially, in the game. What can do you do at Risa or DS9 or Earth Spacedock, really?
Ground combat looks absymal.
I've been a member of the STO online community for years, since the early days at STOnet when Perpetual was in development of the game. I went by the name Warrior or Sameet. I also went by the game Sameet here and Captain Holiday. I've been banned numerous times. Oh well.
I've enjoyed the conversations and debates. Sadly the game I see at launch is not the one I was looking forward to. I really wanted to have fuller ship interiors where I could have more of the Star Trek feel.
Maybe down the road if Cryptic adds the things I want to see I will be back, but I don't see that happening. I just don't think ship interiors will reach the level of immersion and detail I wanted to see. I wanted to look out the windows and see the planet I am orbiting and stuff like that. It seems Cryptic's engine can't even handle that what SWG could handle.
So ta ta!!!!!
And for those who will be playing from tomorrow on, God Speed!!!!

Be sad damnit!
I'm not. Just thought it was attention-grabbing. I'm more of a Al Gore-Dennis Kucinich-Ralph Nader type guy.
The name's too ambiguous. It screams, "I'm looking forward to voting for Palin in 2012" and not "wouldn't it be funny if Palin was president."
... I don't even know where to start with you. Learn English, then come back and insult the guy.
Because that adds so much to the game. Immersion, role-play opportunities, social opportunities, expanded episodic mission content within your ship, boarding parties, etc.
well small derail.
a lot of times during the various incarnations of the star trek shows, we were treated to the interior of the ships.. sick bay, bridge, sometimes a dining area, personal quarters of various notable people of the show, transporter room, engineer, a few hallways.. sometimes even a shuttle bay.
Mechanically speaking with respect to the game, having these areas opens up the possibility for a lot more in-game things to happen. Imagine a mission where you get borded by raiders and have to fight them *inside* the hallways of your ship OR being able to go to your captain's quarters and access your bank information.
Socially speaking, imagine being able to put items in your personal quarters and having other captains visit your ship and see more than just your bridge.
Immersion wise, you've seen all kinds of parts of the enterprise, seeing these areas of our ships and the ability to visit them as the ship navigates toward the next star system would really make you feel like you're *in* this huge ship type thing.
that's why a lot of people (myself included) are really hoping Cryptic develops more of our ships in time so that in the future we can go to sick-bay and see that guy we just beamed on board and (likely) speak to him and begin another quest! OR have a situation where transporters are interrupted and we have to take a shuttle.. or... well you see my point. They've done a good job giving us a Trek feeling, but there's a lot more that can be done and it's an MMO so who knows what's possible, right?
Maybe you would have always been happier with the Sims perhaps?
I agree it'd be cool to have interiors be more well developed in this game. But it doesn't really bother me that they aren't because that's just a tiny QoL fraction of this game for most people. There are already plenty of obvious "social gathering spots" in this game anyway.
I'm sorry if that one aspect was so important to you that you chose to give up on the game as a whole. *shrugs*
I think what he means is that this game lacks a place where he can cyber with his internet flings.
That what Risa is for.
What type of minigame do you want? Are you basically looking for a futuristic battleship game you can play at DS9?
Because a ridiculous amount of time in the shows/movies is spent on the interior of a starship?
This would have fine had you been at all neutral to this game to begin with. During my own time on these forums, you have always had a negative outlook. You were already complaining before even playing the game - and it is no surprise what your conclusion is now. Good luck I guess, but don't make it seem as if you were at all unbiased.
He should have named himself Palin4President2009
Bye! and big hugs to all your WoW guild mates, sorry your attempt to ruin this game has failed, better luck with the next one!
There is also a practical aside, and that is the ability to customize the interior of your ship, then run adventures on it.
The reason the game went the way it went is everyone wanted to be a captain, and no one wanted to be crew. Standard human failing. So, you find an excuse to make everyone a captain, and that means starship combat comes into play and everyone can have their own away team.
On the practical side, there COULD be an interior of the ship coming. You already can step onto your bridge. There is a flashing but unused elevator. Imagine that the game designers have this on their to do list, but like all other MMOs it is in the future, like flying in WoW. Along comes an update, and we now have in ship adventures (chasing the Klingons off your ship) and customizable ships that are like housing in other games.
Not to mention the short time frame for development they were given. I just think it will take a large portion of the massively multi player out of the mix if you only run lots of missions on your own ship, instead of space/planets/spacestations in which others can participate. Last thing i want is a bunch of slack jawed yokels running around my ship trying to save me from the borg.
kin i has yo stuph
I was looking for a Casual MMO and found it. £10pm/33p a day or so is two or three pints or a pizza, so its no big deal. Even if I play a hour a night its worth it to me.
