Why do i need to destroy everything.

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
As i go further in game i get let down over and over again by missions and many other parts too. Why do i need to destroy everything? Why cant i scan for those dilithium crystal in a certain system? Why cant i have peaceful solutions to problems? Why cant i disable enemy ships?

I am all the time giving it a chance and am trying to get myself assured that there will be these vital Startrek aspects in the future but every person has limits to their partience..

And in such point everyone will either quit or want some reassurance that game will be developed further in these areas.

Startrek is not about killing everything but rather finding solutions to prevent violence. And yes there is also need for batle every now and then.

Players have their ability to have combat now. It would be time to add other aspects as well in near future.

Thank you, feel free to troll ;)

Im sure in the future that sorta stuff will come.. atleast i really hope soo. My guess is make the combat core right... then go on to all those other game systems that will to me, in the end, make or break this game

you do realize we are at at war on all sides???? war changes things...

but if you are an RP type i suggest you watch some TOS ... Kirk isnt always looking for the carebear solution...

In Arena, Spock even reminds him about the need to perserve sentient life and Kirk tells him Bollocks, we are the only law out here, set phaser banks to maximum.

This has already been discussed at length before. I wouldn't expect any major changes to the game play. There really isn't much that is "Star Trek" about this game except the ships and weapons.

Welcome to the Federation of Murder.

Well so far the only working alternatives that they have so far that I've come across is to beam down to a planet and scan five objects on a barren planet, I'll take the destroying everything every time. :p

Not to mention there IS a lot of scanning, disabling, etc. But mainly blowing things up, yes.

There are several missions where you have to disable the ship. Granted you do that by shooting them until they stop.:D

At least one of the missions that require scanning asteroids can be completed without firing a shot... I've done it twice. now.

Be creative... if it says you only have to scan to complete the mission, crank up the engines and figure out how to zip or sneak in and get your scan without having to fight.
I used a speed power setting and approached from a high positive or negative position on the z-axis under full impulse, slowing when I'm almost on top of the asteroid. Get the asteroid between me and whatever nasty is there guarding it, scan... and if they haven't fired yet, hit full impulse again. if they have fired, hit evasive maneuvers and bug out. If you aren't moving fast enough yet, pop an engine battery as well.
Once or twice I was fired on before I could complete the scan. If you're close to the asteroid and the enemy is a big slow ship, just position yourself opposite the bad guy and re-scan.

I wont quit and I don't want any reassurance that the game will have a touchy feely element added. Because I do need to destroy everything and I assure you it is a need.

Used such tactic with changing rate of success but it was fun. But still they do not need to make random enemies pop up in everywhere. Scanning is boring because they havent given much thought to it. It could have been made so much better with some minigame included... Olso there are missions i need to find something in system but there is no option to scab for these objects. In Trek it was the most common solution to scan for something they were searching, instead of wandering around in hopes of findinf such object

yes, in fact there is a button to scan, I use it all the time to find the glowies. It's a small button to the left of the minimap, I think it has 3 little lines.

There are missions in which you don't fight. Yes, even though they're just 'beam down', 'click 5 glowies', 'beam up', I like them, provides a small change of pace from fight fight fight (and some of them actually have some cool mission text, I do read all mission texts)

what i'd like to see is viable ways to advance in the game without having to be a soldier...

there should be support/alternate areas to play other then just straight combat...

    a. merchants
    b. science exploration (resource harvesting)
    c. trade skills

these roles clearly support a war effort, but do so without having to hold a phaser to a klingon's head on a daily basis.

what i am most missing in the game so far is:
    1. a trade skill option. i'd like to play a science officer who can make things...spend as much time in research and development as in combat. currently, i feel like i have a MD, but am still just a fighter on the front lines.

    2. increased socialization. i'd like an IN GAME reason why folks would WANT to socialize with one another.

Agreed on those. Especially the social part. There is not enough socialising in game since so many get to these forums during playing. One thing for chat i would like to have is an option to look just chats of zone i am, instead of all zones in same window. If there is such option please help and tell me :)

And to another reply, i hqave found and also use scan all the time but for my knownledge i can only scan for those anomalies you can gathert. Not for mission objects etc. Is it not part of ships scanners functions to show you all nearby ships, asteroids, anomalies, materials etc.. You get my point i hope?

If Kirk were here he'd punch you in the gut and give you the two handed hammer first, then make love to your green skinned girl friend while cracking jokes about peaceful resolutions.

I do, and yes, it works for glowies too. Whatever is nearest you. I use it to find glowies in missions, specially in ground missions that are a pain to find. They also point to containers with stuff, basically, whatever you can press F on (except loot and NPCs)

Great. Have to look it more carefully then. Last mission where i had to find Dilithium in space it did not work but may as well be a bug in this phase.
