Ok, so since OB I've been torn for what to do for on my escort ships, Photon torpedos or quantum. Photon torpedos fire more often than quantums but quantums do more damage per torpedo. I tried out both in beta, and both set's of plusses were handy in some situations. On weaker hulled ships it would take 2 hits with photons to destroy them where a quantum would have done it in one, yet on the tougher ship I'd be left wishing I could fire more often when I had the quants equiped. Can't have it both ways (ok, I can, but would have to use 2 slots to do so and would loose my beams or cannons (Definatly a no no))so what do you good more experienced players recomend? Photon or Quants?
I use quantums all the way as the damage per his is tasty, i use solid cannons as well, i dont use beams as cannons do better damage against hulls so that makes up for the slightly longer reload time on the quantums.
i personally prefer quantums,ok so there a little slower in the recharge that i can live with as there a better dmg(note:i know that it says there lower dps) but as i prefer flying solo it works for me
I'd say it depends on what class of ship you're using.
For example - using a cruiser, it can be hard to line up the bow or stern so you can get a clean shot with the torpedoes so Quantums work well for the rare moments you've got a good shot.
For Escorts, where I guess you spend most of your time hammering exposed hull, Photons are probably better as you can get more off in a shorter space of time.
As for science ships - I haven't played them but I imagine the decider is your turning circle.
I would say Quantums. As an Escort, you need to maneuvre a lot. You spent your DPS cycle nose on, yes, so high DPS photons would seem preferable, but I'm not sure you should really be spending more than 6 seconds at a timeCharging headfirst at an enemy, except during the opening stages of combat. In the rest of the time you should be weaving around trying to line up your next shots, punch through the shields, fire off a high-yeild Quantum then move away and re-ballance your shields.
That's the way I would play it but really I think most of the decisions in this game come down to personal play style and preference. I like the way the photons look, reminds me of the early movies
For my Sci vessel I rarely get around to popping off torpedoes so quantum works really well for me when I do. Most of my time is spent dancing around and throwing a few Tykens rifts around

You see my Escort tactic sort of differs from yours.
I just stop all engines at 10KM and fire everything I got ,at maximum weapon setting, over and over at my target which is flying directly towards me, their front shield pops right away and they get owned. VS heavier enemies like battlecruisers, I just spam redistribute to forward shield button and brace for impact when i see their torpedos comming.
No ship last longer than 30 seconds, guaranteed. If they get close, use one of the special speed engines that give you 25% turn speed on thrusters only and just spin.
PHotons would probably be best for this but as the guy before me said, quantum just look cooler so I'm using those lol...

Yup.. good ol park and blast routine... So much for combat tactic. Max DPS and watch them go off like fireoworks.

This is a decent tactic if you use phasers, but disruptors drop off damage significantly at range. Have to get up close and personal to do real damage. I usually match speed with my victim and hammer starboard/rear shields until they drop, then hit Attack Pattern Alpha/High Yield and fire. Even battleship hulls fall apart pretty quickly under that barrage.

Thats my two cents.

High Yield ftw
no time to target it if you fire it directly into their hull from your tubes hehe.
