Hello,I been running a redeon x700 card in my computer for months now and after attemptin to play sto with it,I ran today to get another card due to extreme lag and poor quality graphics :D.I bought a geforce 8400 gs and Im still experiencing lag at lowest graphic settings. So now a friend of mine said he would sell me his radeon x1950 pro but I wanted to know if this card would solve my problems before I actually buy it lol

Mate, neither of those cards are going to do you much good, the x1950 might, I used to run oblivion okay from one, but don't fork over any more than a tenner for it. ('bout $10) Best bet might be to upgrade to one of the cheap radeon cards, 4850s run pretty much whatever you like in decent quality and cost near on nothing at all :)

No it wont, that card is 3 or 4years old now.
Your 8400 is a pretty poor gaming card and the radeon x1950 wont do you any favours either.

If you want to play the game at decent settings you will have to get a more up to date gaming card.

Maybe best you post your PC specs so people can help you better.

Honestly, you could upgrade your video card for a marginal improvement, but I think that your CPU is the biggest hinderance here...

Thats a 2ghz SINGLE core 64-bit processor. Well below minimum specs for STO (1.8ghz dual core, although I know of many who run the game on single core P4s 2.5ghz - 3.2ghz as well with little problem). If I were you I'd save your money for now and look towards getting a more capable machine. You can't expect the game to run smoothly with that CPU. Bottom line. :(

I'd agree I have the 8400 and mine runs perfectly fine on the recommended settings. I have no problems whatsoever anywhere so quite obviously the card is not the issue.

cheapest budget cards tend to be $80 and decent ones that play STO like ya asking for tend to be at least $160 at warehouse/street prices

also remember with a TRIBBLE slow CPU even the best video card won't do well ya need a dual core or quad core to get full speed from current cards

The A64 3200 Venice Core may no be much by today's standards, but let's not overstate the problem. That chip will still blow most of the TRIBBLE Netburst ('Pentium 4') chips people are successfully playing STO on out of the water due to the advantage of an integrated memory controller.

That CPU is old, but it is capable of playing this game when paired with 2GB or RAM. The problem is that an 8400GS will not play this game in any desirable capacity, and a Radeon X1950 will not be adequate to solve that problem. Honestly, that CPU will bottleneck most GPUs pretty quickly, as it was designed for use with Geforce 6/Radeon Xx00 series GPUs, and bottlenecks at anything above top-end Geforce7/Radeon Xxx00 GPUs. That said, it can handle things a heck of a lot more powerful than a Geforce 8400. It's also easy to run this game smoothly on video cards that cost a lot less than $160, or even $80. Remember, the OP didn't say he wanted to run the game on high, so he doesn't need a Radeon HD 5770 here; he just wants smooth framerates.

An appropriate graphics card for that system would be a Radeon HD 4650 (or similar card). The cheapest one I know of that doesn't have TRIBBLE reviews and features a 128-bit memory bus (some have a 64-bit bus ) is THIS card. I am, of course, assuming that the system in question of PCIE-based and doesn't have an AGP board, but it would be atypical for a processor of that generation to paired with AGP. So, if that's not an issue, then pick up that GPU, pop it in, make sure there isn't TRIBBLE running that's slowing down the system in the background, and then play STO. It's as simple as that, and the game should at least run smoothly at lowish settings and a respectable resolution.

I'll second this. OP, the 8400 is a terrible card. its a video playback card, not a gaming card. If you are going to game on an 8*** series card, go for the 8600GT with ddr3 ram

But the ATI 4850 is fantastic. As the quoted poster pointed out, it runs almost everything you throw at it in good quality, and costs next to nothing.

    Click for proof of 4850

The problem is that the CPU will bottleneck a card like that so much, that there will be no benefit to using it over a lower end Radeon HD 4000 series card. It would be added money that would be wasted, as the price tag would go from $65 for a 4650 to $100 for a 4850.

I have another computer specs are: Intel (R) Pentium (R) D CPU 3.00 GHz 3.00GHz
    32-bit operating system 0.99GB

I didn't use that computer because I heard vista and games don't get along lol but I can always get the graphics card and ram from this computer and put in on the other if it will make a diffrence.

Vista and Games get along just fine. The OS got a bad rep, but it should work just fine now after all the patches and fixes. I had Vista for a few months this year, and while it wasn't the best I had very little problem with it. I'm absolutely loving Windows 7 64-bit now.

But any way, that Pentium D isn't exactly a champion amongst processors but that should do the job better than your 3200+. Now by 0.99GB do you mean that the machine has 1GB of ram? What kind of video card does your Pentium D machine have? This 4650 would do very nicely for STO, and falls within your 60 dollar budget by 1 cent (with free shipping and double warranty). :p

yea I think 0.99 means 1 gb and it doesnt have a graphics card so Im gonna go ahead and buy the one you showed me and get the ram from this computer and put it on the vista lol hopefully ill enjoy the game at a faster rate :D
