A bunch of Ideas

Ok, been playing OB and to LC (3) till now. These are ideas based on my experience:

(1) Movement in Subspace: Takes WAY to long to get from earth to K7 - or any other part of the galaxy. What about instant travelling to designatet points in each part of the galaxy? Like: Sol-K7; Memory Alpha-DS9 etc. This way travelling would not be as pita as it is now. Especially when you cant go afk because of random encounters.

(2) overall game difficulty: I´m flying a T2 escort - and have yet to find a mission i cant solo without dying. Strategy always the same: Load High Yield II at 13km, at 10km activate AP:Alpha, loadout all weapons, prevent opponent from counter-attacking (scramble sensors?) and load high yield II again. Even the dreaded "hostage ship" didnt stand a chance. I solo Borg Speres in PvPvE (admitted: taking heavy damage). Overall: too easy.
Yesterday I began a mission while still being in a group (only 1 left) who did not participate in that mission. The mission was WAY more difficult (because of the other one in the group). So my idea: Why not letting us increase the difficulty while at the same time increasing the rewards (Xp for example)?

(3) Rearrange the optics of the "Train Boff new skills"-menu. Make the categories (Ensign, Lt. etc) pull down-menus and divide the skills by"Space Skills" and "Ground Skills".

(4) More "mouseover"-help. I find a SCI-device with "photonic theory +7.5". What does that even mean? I have to equip it to find the photonic-theory-skill in my avatars skill list and THEN I know what it does. Not a very elegant solution for that.

(5) Alternating down-times between USA and EUROPE: It cant be good for either one if server mainenance is made during either ones prime time. So: Once it´s USAs turn, the next time europe has to "suffer".

Thats it for now ;)

They could adapt the current Transwarp to do this. Currently it only takes you back to Earth. But it would be good to choose your own destination . :)

Agree totally with these 2 points...

Do they even have seperate servers for US and EU. I thought it was just one.

    no they have not.
Thats why I´m saying: "Dont do maintenance always at the same time" - cause that would mean that ALWAYS europeans (or americans) would have to cease playing for that time

    I agree with point 2.

I would gladly increase the difficulty of my missions for better rewards.

    My idea:

Play till end of free month...shelve the game.

Thats pretty much how I feel atm ... :(

    (1) Movement in Subspace: (...)

Makes sense. As someone suggested before - let us select what to use our transwarp on. I mean let us bind at least to some other spot and not be bound only to Sol System. While I agree that its a hub in early game, later on it just takes too long to get back to other sectors from Sol.

    (2) overall game difficulty: (...)

They have to be really careful with this. It needs to be very carefully balanced. Yes I have to agree that flying escort in PvE is pretty easy. There are different approaches though, with other skills than yours. I for example use only cannons and find it better than using torpedos. Its my choice though. So I use rapid fire, Tachyon Beam and Emergency power to Weapons. Its ok. I love my Escort ship and won't fly anything else on this character.

Are missions easy? Some of them yeah. Thing is while enemy ships scale to your level there is a limit. Plus as more you train your skills as stronger you and your ship becomes. There are missions that are not as easy, other missions may be easier. Increasing missions difficulty and giving more EXP rewards may break the game balance. If you want missions to be more challenging do it with friends. You will have to deal with stronger enemy ships and more of them. That should suffice your taste for difficulty.

    (3) Rearrange the optics of the "Train Boff new skills"-menu. Make the categories (Ensign, Lt. etc) pull down-menus and divide the skills by"Space Skills" and "Ground Skills".

Bridge Officer trainer skill tree needs to be changed too imho. I mean NPC gives you a list of skills based on rank. You click the skill you want and the whole thing jumps off. You have to scroll and look for it again. Very inconvenient system.

    (4) More "mouseover"-help. I find a SCI-device with "photonic theory +7.5". What does that even mean? I have to equip it to find the photonic-theory-skill in my avatars skill list and THEN I know what it does. Not a very elegant solution for that.

Yeah agree with that. More tips would be appreciated in item descriptions.

    (5) Alternating down-times between USA and EUROPE: It cant be good for either one if server mainenance is made during either ones prime time. So: Once it´s USAs turn, the next time europe has to "suffer".

It wouldn't be the problem if they had different shards for Europe and US. Thing is that Cryptic never anticipated the game to be so popular, thats why now they have to deal with all these problems related to so many people playing at the same time. I wish they thought ahead of time to have at least TWO servers. One for Europe one for US. Its easier to combine 2 servers.

Now to add a new server in a game that is meant to play on a single server - not so easy. I hope they find some kind of alternative. Or they may just wait until people start dropping off from the game. But I am afraid that may not happen at least until SWTOR is released. STO along with trekkies has a lot of Sci-Fi "home sick" players which I am one of. There is simply nothing out there to chose from. Maybe after "JumpGate Evolution" is released later this year some PvP lovers will switch since game offers a lot of PvP (mass PvP) action and supports joysticks and controllers. More of an arcade type.

I still love STO the most though since it has ground missions and overall I want to bet it will be more fun than JGE on a long run.
