What is the Arc Client?

Loading, Please Wait

I got my pre-order copy on steam. I was unfortunately too busy to get in on the head start weekend, but I did play the beta last week. I launched the game now and all it says is "Loading, Please Wait" and does nothing else. This is before the log in screen. I followed the steps to avoid steam patching just incase that was the problem (ie. copy the steam folder out and run it from there) but the same thing happens.

So, what's it doing? I'm willing to wait if it's gonna finish, but if it's downloading something I need to know, I'm an Aussie and bandwidth here is not cheap.

Well this is no fun. It's doing the same thing again today. At present I am so glad I didn't go for that lifetime subscription, as this kind of load delay is making me not even want to play any more.

this happened to me so i used the gameclient file found at
(in my drive:) F:\Games\Cryptic\StarTrekOnline\Star Trek Online\Live

But to make sure you didn't need to do this just install or update you IE8. Don't know why but this worked for me. (this was actually a tip provided by someone in another thread)

Interesting. I did a Windows Update, and there was an IE8 patch there (amongst others), and now when I start the client, I see the "Loading, Please wait" for only a few seconds.

    Thanks for that!

Note: I finally get it running, get patched and..... Time for the Server Downtime! Oh yes I love being in Australia.

This is ********. I couldn't play with the downloaded beta. And now my $90 Collectors edition is here and loaded up, and I still get "Loading. Please wait." WTF!!! Cryptic is going to take a huge hit for this fiasco.

Apparently IE is needed as the web browser in order to play STO:MMO. I picked up that little tidbit by reading through these forums. It's probably on the release notes as well.

But I use Firefox as my primary browser, which Cryptic seemed to have chose to ignore.

    It's all working now...

Had this same thing today. It is indeed IE related, the patcher/loader needs IE and it has to be able to access the web for it to work.

Some how, unknown to me, my IE was set to "work off line", and that kept it from being able to see the servers or something. If your having trouble with the patcher I suggest strongly starting with your IE installation and getting that running properly.

You might want to start here:

I had to dig a bit to figure out were to turn it back on, I never use the thing so I have no idea how it ever got switched off.

It is not that the launcher need IE . Itis that the launcher uses MSHTML components the same as IE and if there is a problem with MSHTML itis easy to fix by using the setting changes and update son IE than reinstalling the OS.

my friend had this problem, i told him to run system file checker, and it fixed the prob. if you wanna try it:

hold down windows key + r
    under open , type cmd
in the following window, type : sfc /scannow
once this scan is complete, try loading again.
