Game Server Status (4 Servers only one up)

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I found the following page:

http://www.mmoserverstatus.com/star_trek_online

I dont know if these really are all the STO servers. But i noticed that most of the time there is only one Game server online. And soon after that everything is down again.

Why is that ? Are they trying to upgrade the other servers for the launch ? I really hope the availability will get better. I dont think its strange that you have queues and server crashes if only one server is up. (where there should be 4) It will simply get overloaded.

Hmm is that listing the individual machines as ie Game server 1,Game server 2,Game server 3,Game server 4 or are they clusters. If there are only 4 machines running STO then no wonder there are so many problems. But I suspect that is game server clusters 1-4

Oh and to answer your question there is only 1 world to log into. Everyone and their brothers will be playing on same "server"

I wouldn't trust that site. I was just in the game and I had zero issues.

That will no doubt either be:

    Cluster 1-4 (logical 'servers')
    or
That site doesnt have the IPs of the other servers.

I also think it are clusters. And i know there is one world. But in optimal condition there will be 4 servers (or cluster) supporting it. When its up i only see 1 server online. Mostly server 2 and 4. So they are not running at full capacity and after 30-60 min everything is down again.

If there's any accuracy to that it might be including test/beta servers. I'm pretty sure the devs have at least 2 additional environments beside the normal life one- one for internal testing and a test server we'll be able to access in some capacity to help test.

It can't be right. I'm downloading the patch to my laptop right now (TIME: 00:54) and this is what it says ...

Welcome at the server status page for Star trek online.
    startrekonline.com
    Account server online
    Account server 2 online
    Controller checker 1 offline
    Controller checker 2 online
    Controller checker 4 offline
    Error check server online
    Game server 1 offline
    Game server 2 offline
    Game server 3 offline
    Game server 4 offline
    Patch server offline
    Patch server 2 offline
    Website online

Especially now, where they are adding new units like crazy, its not a suprise that the load-balancing goes out of the window to enable them to upgrade the other clusters while one keeps the game alive.

Interessting..so they do have more than 1 server

@Tim_ploe ...it is refered as 1 big server but behind it really is a server cluster (a couple of servers connected at the same spot).

I suppose they are running only 1 server while preparing the rest or something like this

It was up some time ago but atm it seems to be down. Yesterday it was right when it was reading down at that page it was also down at the STO page.

But at the moment the STO page reads up i'm not at home so i cant try. But atm it seems to be incorrect.

After the patch it listed 3 Game servers as 'online'. At that time, the shard was working really quite smooth.

There's NO accuracy there - the game is up and running fine - yet that site lists ALL 'Game Servers' as offline at the time of this post (and I'm in working at the Exchange atm - just alt tabbed out to check some things).

I think they rely of people who ping/traceroute/etc. to give them info - I also assume they just ping a ser ver addrress and if they geta reply they figure the server is up.

Or they already have more servers ? because of the higher demand they added more servers ?

I really wonder how the availability will be tomorrow. And if there will me a lot more people then with the headstart.

They are guessing what the IPs of the Cryptic servers are, and applying some heuristics to determine what is up.

So you can't believe anything that site says. They don't even reveal how they are monitoring. I could put up a site that says they are mostly up and it would look just as accurate to someone.

One of the devs posted in another thread in response to that status link saying he isn't sure where they get their info and that it shouldn't be considered accurate.
