I have a Champions, and in that game I had none of the micro stuttering or texture issues several others reported.
In STO during beta, I had none of those issues.
With the big patch right before headstart, I suddenly had them.
When moving on the ground or in space, or rotating the camera, the game stutters. It moves for a second, stops for a fraction of a second, them begins moving again.
With textures and shadows, any time I get in a fight and shots start flying, textures start disappearing all over the place and shadows will come and go. They both flash on and off rapidly, from regular color to solid black and back.
I've tweaked the settings, and at most lowering and raising the settings gets rid of any persistent glitches that remain after a fight is done (ie. black textures, missing lighting, shadows on everything) but this does nothing for the micro stuttering. I have upgraded my computer slightly since I started playing CO, but currently:
Geforce 8800 GT 512MB
Intel Core2Duo - e8400 running at 3Ghz
4GB RAM
Win XP Home SP3
I have two SATA HD's with a couple hundred GB a piece free space, and a 2GB paging file on each drive.
For comparison, I can log into CO and have no stuttering or texture/shadow issues.
Same problem here. GeForce 8600GTS. I found that the problem actually got worse when I updated video drivers. I noticed that when I increased the game's refresh rate to 70 hertz that the problem got better, although that makes no sense to me since my monitor is only 60 hertz. Can Cryptic or Nvidia look into this please?
Hey guys. I just recently updated to a geforce gtx 460 from a 9600 and I got stuttering out the wazoo. I checked the most current nvidia driver release notes and under known issues there was listed "Star Trek Online - Pausing" listed. Either we are going to have to wait for a new driver, or you can try to play with the video settings until you find the culprit. In my case, disabling shadows completely fixed the problem. Weird, eh? I have everything set to max and it runs like a chanp as long as shadows are turned off.
I too found that turning off shadows has helped quite a bit... unfortunately it eventually came back and now this continual flashing/flickering occurs in both space and on land...
Used to not be a problem before patch. I am using a Geforce GTX 470.
