I have a HD5850 running at 950-1225. So i would have about the same performance as you do.

I'm running 2560x1600 @ 4x AA Everything maxed out except shadows. I put those on low to get a bi higher FPS.

I noticed that that the following things have big performance hits:
    -shadow quality
    -Ambient occlusion
-Set AA from 2x to 4x
-Set AA from 4x to 8x

Especially the AA is strange in other games the performance hit from 2x to 4x is almost nothing. In starsystems with a lot of rocks my FPS will also go down to like 17-24 ish. But most of the time it will be around 35-60.

Ambient occlusion is quite heavy its something like shadows only then with the lighting of objects. And with all those rocks in some starsystems you need a lot of computing power. But i also thought the latest patch i used in the beta had a higher FPS. i dont know what they changed. Maybe they add more Image quality features and we only need to disable those.

Also make sure to turn off Dynamic lighting. I have 8 x AA and 16 x AF. Getting 40FPS solid with my 5850.

all maxed out in tha game

i thing its just not well programmed, or the engine is just TRIBBLE......

how it looks like now, it should really runs smooth, but it isnt.....

BTW eyefinity runs not stable, random crashes ingame

PLS if a DEVELOPER read this, make this game running good at 5760X1200

Yeah I'm experiencing this same issue. It seems to be at random locations where I see this huge performance hit that I never saw before. I'm using a Radeon 5770 1GB with latest (10.1) Windows 7 64-bit Catalyst drivers.

Before the last patch, the only time I would dip below 70-90fps on max settings would be in a VERY busy fleet action or when the Borg invaded earth spacedock at the end of OB. I expected a performance hit in those situations, but not dropping down to 25fps when I'm flying through an empty system by myself.

On a plus note, the huge performance drop when opening the skill tree window is gone, but now this...

P.S. altering graphic display settings in game doesn't seem to accomplish much of anything at all.

So we are all in agreement here,

    KILL THE BATTMAN!

    Wait sorry wrong topic,

So this is all cryptic's fault, cause my fps dropped 60fps in one patch, and even on the speed setting im getting 20fps, how is that possible, memory leak or something, because according to afterburner my core is at 100% on speed setting.

I've only heard the 5000 series having trouble with this, can we get some answers to what drops performance 60fps on a top of the line gpu!?!?

It could be the drivers. Both ATI and Nvidia have known issues with the latest cards and drivers. Thats why theyre pushing out new builds and hotfixes pretty damn fast lately.

Read carefully please - he said, it was 60fps before latest patch, and 24 right after it. Now it's 30 AFTER updating drivers.

I also have problem with the latest patch. Can't play any more, because it crashes every few minutes. Had to stick to EVE Online for the past 24 hours - and no, no crashes there. And yes, I have AA off, DL off, PP off, Quality 100%. Shame.

The latest patch killed the performance on my 260GTX also... I used to get 60 fps most of the time in space combat before this last patch... now I am lucky to get 30... it pretty much halved my fps... no settings have been changed. I have even reset the video settings and set them back to how they were... still lost about half my fps when in space.

Nah, the huge fps drop with the skill tree is not gone... they just hid it... by making your normal FPS what it was when the skill tree was open :P

So over the past few days i have been charting my FPS.

Everyday it seems to get worse.
Yesterday i was down to 14fps

Today day at the sol station i got 0.99FPS!!!!!!

    UMMMM HOW THE F*** DOES A 5870 get 0.99FPS when a 4850 gets 60fps?

Is there a black hole in the game or something, because i got a lot of duct tape if you need to cover it up!

And the turn off AA and dynamic lighting is doing TRIBBLE, actually makes my fps worse, along with /maxfps!

Well maybe those of us that dont play on 9550s have good eye sight so we can see the drop in frame rate between 29fps and 30fps. Heck anything under 60 bothers me.

I can tell a HUGE difference between 30 and 50-60. Now 60 and beyond is a different story.

30fps is okay and all, but when you have a card capable of so much more, it's just frustrating and depressing.

And yeah, I take that back on the skill tree fps drop bug. I still get it all the time now.

okay well i dont have any TRIBBLE, and you sir are an idiot, because there has been a memory leak in the engine since the freaking beta.

In fact you are so stupid you lose rights to your computer.

So i have been checking my GPU usage MSI Afterburner and it seems im averaging about 40% usage and am getting about 30fps when fullscreen, but my usage skyrockets to 60% and fps goes up to 70 when i hit the esc button, dont know what is causing that but its weird as heck.

I also have found the best temporary solution is to run the game in a maximized window, which puts my FPS around 45 - 35 fps, dont know if that helps you guys but im glad im up from 1fps now to a tolerable fps.

    I have a i7 920
    win7 64 bit
    12gb ram
    dual 5850s
The FPS dips during ground missions and starbase 24 isnt playable unless u play with lighting

I played the beta and never had any issues

The update today seems to have helped a little not sure if anyone else is noticing anything but i am getting random spikes of 65 fps then it dips to 19fps and goes back to 29fps.

Hopefully tomorrow they fix the patch, I really hope so!

I have also noticed with my 5870, that upon entering my character's skill tree page, the fps of the game drastically drops to 14fps. It doesn't matter where you are, space, sector space, ground, it instantly cuts the fps to 14fps as soon as its opened. Closing it, you instantly regain the 40-60fps from beforehand. Has anyone else noticed this?

You people with ATI cards remembered to turn Dynamic Lighting off, right? It's possible the patch changed your video setting on you.

I had the same problem with yesterdays patch. It looks like it turned on AA to full 8x. I turned it off and low and behold, right back to 100+fps.

I love it how you idiots dont read posts other than the first one.

Turning off the AA and Dynamic makes the FPS DROP!

So why would i intentionally lower my fps and have the game look worse!?!?

because your computer is the anti-christ. thats the only thing that would make sense. I am unsure how unloading features makes your computer have more load. I am unsure how you can't just turn it on and then enjoy the increase in performance?

Maybe it is becaus the game has a huge MEMORY LEAK, two minutes ago i just got a crash from a MEMORY LEAK, and i guess those features take away MEMORY from the MEMORY LEAK, which causes it to LEAK less MEMORY.

why would a memory leak cause instant problems? it takes time for a leak to leak enough memory to effect the game. I think your sauce is weak and you need to come up with less angry and resentful reasons.

I'll chalk this one up to your don't know how to use a computer and I'll move on.

    Sorry I could not help.
