Ridiculous

Just Ridiculous

This is my first MMORPG. I'm a Star Trek fan first and a video game fan second. Aside from the fact that playing this game has cost me over $100 and I get booted, told that the system is down with no estimate for its return, and forced to wait in queue for an hour, I am also becoming more skeptical about the gameplay itself. The missions seem to follow a pretty bland formula.

Go to star system.
Blow up Ships.
Scan Something.
Beam down to planet or ship.
Shoot lots of bad guys.
Beam up.
Blow up more ships.
Warp Out.

This is repetitive and it is not authentic Star Trek. I realize that combat must serve a larger role in games but there seems to be little else STO has to offer. Why are players not given choices that affect the outcome of missions. A chance to outwit an opponent or to resolve a mission diplomatically would be welcome.

I admit though, that I have only achieved the rank of Lt. Commander and have not advanced beyond the Klingon mission sets. However what I have seen so far doesn't warrent the money or time I've spent on a product that is only Star Trek in name.

I couldn't agree more about the mission layout, it really does get repetative, and some missions i find seem to last forever, fighting, beaming down, fighting, beaming down etc. Doing one 150 merit mission really takes it out of me...

they will be adding more missions as the game goes on to add variety, plus once you advance through the game anyway you get different missions, some using story lines from actual star trek episodes which are good, just keep choosing admiral quinns missions and you will see them

Welcome to the world of MMORPGs! This is how most games of this type go. The more branches they allow in missions, the more dev time is required and errors are likely to creep in.

I expect that in expansions they will likely put some options in for choice affecting missions, but realize that this also limits major story arcs (they can't push out an expansion for option C of a mission when everyone chose options A or B.)

It gets even more complex than this, but I lack the mental acuity right now to explain it since I just woke up.

Yep I agree - this pretty much sums up most MMORPG's - it's not so much the repetitive quests that keep millions paying every month but the community itself. A good game is the one with a good community, people that will go out of their way to help you complete a hard quest and the enjoyment of fighting alone side good people and getting a squad/team going with each person having different roles to play....

I think this game needs a little more social activities the bring people together - their is a lack of bases to meet up and the emotes are a pain to use but I think things will improve once the dev's get the basic teething problems sorted - well, let's hope so....

Since this is your first MMO.. and given your obvious expectations.. I will save you the trouble now and suggest you go back to your XBOX.
