Was it so you could be a Liberated Borg? Was it so you could lord over all the other commoners? That way you are within your rights to complain that you deserve to be treated better than the rest?

Hmm. never have to pay a sub fee . . . that decision was an easy one.

Save money in the long run and also I had the money now and wouldnt have to think about it in the future. Like, oh I am not playing that much so i am just going to unsubscribe for this month. As a lifetime subscriber, I do not have to worry about that. Only time will tell if the investment was worth it. I do like the game though.
Hedging my bets on the game being a success and lasting in the long run. I don't even want the borg, but the extra slots are a nice plus.
If I pay monthly I feel an obligation to play even when I don't feel like to get my moneys worth. With it all payed up front I can play when I want to without that worry.
Unless the game fails in less than a year and then I'll just get violent with someone.
I'm a big star trek fan, and needed a good mmo to get into. It was only right for me to get the lifetime. I like this game more than others apparently.
In part to save money in the long run <subscribed to WoW for over 5 years> but also so I'll never have to manage my account in terms of payments from here on and can play at my liezure rather than feel forced to put in so many hours a day/week just to justify getting my money's worth.

I don't think lifers should be treated any different than anyone else paying any of the subscriptions.
I bought it because I love the theme and the game and figured I don't have to be bothered with a monthly thing, I will save money long-term if the game, and to me it isn't that much money.
Why did I buy lifetime? I can't even remember now... my wife thought it would be nice for me or something. I'm beginning to think I should have bought her a necklace or earrings or something, I would have got more for my money at least.

Save money in the long run.
I played WoW for 5 years and had I taken a similar deal with that game I would have saved hundreds of dollars. STO was able to keep my interest enough during CB that I felt comfortable purchasing the subscription.
I don't care much about the Borg, personally... but the extra character slots are nice.

Because i think the game is fun, and I'm still playing Birth of the Federation from 1997 ... so i dont see how i could possibly be bored after 1 Year or less ...
1) Had the money.
2) If the game works out it'll save me $$$ in the long run.
3) Love the game so far and would like to see it grow.
4) Perks were nice (extra slots and the Borg).
If I get burned? Ah well - that's life eh?
And no - I don't expect any special treatment 'cause I bought a subscription.
I bought the lifetime because I believe this game has massive potential for expansion and that I will be playing it over the 1.5 years to break even. Once I heard that Romulans and especially Cardassians would be on the way, I jumped on the bandwagon.
Heres to hoping the game will have enough subscribers to keep it alive. I think it will.
I bought the lifetime membership because I have a "Charlie Brown" complex. I keep buying into the hype, the promises, the pleading... then next thing I know..
YARRGGHHHHH...
And I'm on my back. I guess it's slightly better than being face down!
A combination of all aspects. Yes the Borg first caught my eye and the price seemed fair, only 16 to 18 months play and I'm even. Considered I've played WoW from release date and EVE for 3 years I was not keen to add another monthly subscription to my ever growing list of bills. On top of that 2 extra character slots, one for each federation type and a klingon, perfect.
If it goes F2P, I guess that is the risk and I hope fortune favours the bold .
The server maintenance does not concern me, this is pretty normal, and the game is not my life. Besides I have other games to keep me busy when I'm not here, and a wife on top of that ensures downtime is not a bane, but a bonus... She loves it when the server goes down
Monkeys cost a TRIBBLE load ! This is cheaper , and we don't have to change the diaper on any of the cryptic server maintenance monkeys .....so thats good .......
Not having to watch the $15.00 fee on my CC every month and thinking damn i haven't played in 2 weeks.
The money was nothing i'd have done it for $400.
Not to mention i've been a trek fan since i was 4 years old.
i like being able to let the game lie and mature for months without having to pay 15 bucks each time i want to play a little bit or just see what has changed ingame.

putting all the annoying people with "lifer" in their signatures, avatars, or starting those stupid lifer threads on your ignore list really helps.

Borg is nice too:)

I like the idea of pumping in new cash every year so game can have revenue to expand over time.

It was a simple solution.
