I understand down times, crashes, and fixes, but the fact that Cryptic thought they could just take the headstart weekend off BAFFLES me to no end. This entire afternoon we have not heard a peep, and yesterday when we did it was mostly from "redshirt" CS's and not their A team.
You guys appologized for the lack of communication yesterday, only to provide NONE today?! You can't take the weekend off if it's the weekend before launch and you have yet to keep the server up stable for evem 12 straight hours. We need communication, and frankly the servers should have been taken down by now.
Your Queuing system might as well not even be there, because it doesn't even hardly move. If there are not at least a hundred players logging in and out any second in STO, then your Server cap is WAY too low.
Even lower caps on wow servers see positions in the hundreds winding down to 1 in under a minute.
You can't have us waiting hours to get in and expect people to want to subscribe to that. While this is something I am sure you will fix, until you DO get your servers working as they should you cannot keep taking off on the weekends and letting all hell break loose. Especially THIS weekend.
How is the server or even the website going to handle Tuesday?!
I made special plans to have this entire weekend to play, and I would have accepted the downtimes and crashes, but the lack of communication and the fact that most devs seem to be out of office is not going to fly.
I am here for the long haul, but if this continues you will find this surprise hit turn into a small crowd in just a few days. Day 31 is what counts, and yet how many preorders have you lost just in the last two days?
Please get a handle on this, and start talking to us, even on the weekends.
Agreed.. I mean I'm currently one of the lucky ones, I'm still in-game, but even I'm a bit miffed about the whole thing. Obviously the Queue system is bugged..
I'm to scared to even leave my current instance, lest I be disconnected and have to go through the bugged Queue..
"Sorry, we know about it and are working on it."
Also, telling us when load would be reduced would not help. Think of it this way...
Let's say they tell us "We are buying servers and will have 2 new ones installed on February 10". That means that many of the players would stop playing on the 10th. This would provide the network operations guys with inaccurate data at launch. Accounting for that would be very difficult. Right now they KNOW how many people are trying to log in and can use that information as well as what they get on launch day to buy the correct number of servers required for smooth operation.
They go home for the weekend. There is no one even around to care or worry about any of this on any weekend. Thier "new mmo" has just released. Not to mention if they got the crazy atari bonus that everyone talked about, the higher-ups are on a beach somewhere laughing. lol.

yes, I want to be informed what they are doing to fix their probem.

Uhhh, I don't entirely buy the logic. You see, if your counting hypothesis is their motivation for not letting us know, encountering too much BS encourages people to stop logging on, thereby skewing the numbers. It also encourages people who are on the fence not to buy the game.

That is true.
However, if there is nothing they can do to stop the BS anyway then those people are lost anyway are they not?
We got about 704,231,335 more people than we expected so we ordered 1 more server so we can increase capacity to 6 people per instance!
Due to the high demand and unbelievable pre-order sales we placed a rush on this order and expect it sometime before 2012. Keep sitting in the que like sheep, and you lifetimers can totally shutup now, we have your money, so nothing you say makes the slightest bit of difference to us anymore.
It has been a drunken festival the last 2 weeks here at Cryptic, in between mismanaging our budget and losing 1/2 the code for the crafting system we sure have ****ed quite a bit up. But have no fear, I am almost drunk enough to remember where I lost it at.
I was just informed that as you requested, Autofire has been removed from the game totally and the que number you receive while logging in is actually a minute count until we TRIBBLE your bank account like an episode of law and order. What are the odds on that happening?!?! You will also need to push your space button and F key 4 times to trigger any effects, this is a known bug. but look on the bright side, Bridge officers can now have pet kittens! We are very excited about this feature, and encourage you to spend the paltry sum of $12.50 for your own personal BO Kitty! (one time use, no refunds, $12.50 item cost does not reflect $245.00 cryptic service charge)
Thanks for making me work this weekend you sheep-like idiots. I'm going to nerf the pre-order borg and trill just out of spite.
I worked on world of warcraft once about 23 years ago, you should thank god I even decided to make another game. You tools.
Drunk when I wrote this,
Rill Boper.
There, I took their upcoming response that will never get posted and restored it to its future truthful glory.
I just canceled my order. I know I will get a bunch of "I hear a whaambulance" and "can I haz ur stuff" but I don't care. Cryptic let me down. They didn't treat this IP with the care it deserved, and they were dead set on using a substandard quirky server farm idea that is better suited to B-rated games you get off of the $9.99 rack in the dark corners of electronics departments.
They failed miserably.
Admittedly this is all just my opinion. If you like the game I honestly hope it survives the mismanagement that Cryptic has been bludgeoning it with long enough for it to gain the momentum it needs to last. I will never understand the "I hope it fails" mentality... I don't want to see the game fail. I want it to thrive and live and go through the development cycle that all MMO's experience. In time the coding, server issues, stability, and gameplay elements will all come into line and when they do I will be back.
It doesn't matter how much they communicate, they clearly know that the trolls will still cry, bawl and complain.
Just tell us why the servers are having problems...and we'll shut up. Promise!
Just tell us why you don't run buy 10x the number of servers...and we'll shut up, promise!
Just tell us what each employee is doing RIGHT NOW...and we'll shut up, promise!
Just justify every single decision you make, even though you are the ones doing all of the work. And we'll shut up, promise!
It's BS, I know it, you know it, and most importantly...THEY know it. So shut up.
I agree 100%. The one thing that is inexcusable is the lack of communication. We know, basically, nothing.
Are the servers they currently have installed running at full capacity? Or is a problem preventing them from doing so? How long before capacity will be increased? Are the problems now bugs? Or are they due to not enough hardware? Are they due to not enough bandwidth? Are they being worked on?
Information would make a *huge* difference. I know that if this was my project, I would have people whose sole job is to keep the community happy, and there would be at least one such person working 24/7 this weekend.
That fact is, regardless of the truth, it looks like Cryptic doesn't care whether this event goes well or not. It's hard not to speculate that Cryptic has discovered, at this late point, that their design fundamentally will not scale to the number of players STO is getting.
It doesn't matter how much they communicate, they clearly know that the trolls will still cry, bawl and complain.
True, but so what? Do you think the purpose of communication is to shut people up?
Being in Europe, I've been able to play the game all day, with ZERO problems. No disconnects, no lag, I didn't even hit any bugs today. It was only when all you guys over in the US started logging in that you messed it up for everyone. Looks like a capacity issue to me - the server farm can handle the European traffic alone, but as soon as the US login rush hour arrives, it fills up really fast.
You want no problems with STO - move to a better timezone.
They KNOW what the situation is, MUCH more clearly that any of us do. If anyone wants this to succeed, they do most of all. What you idiots can't seem to grasp is, they haven't been working on this for YEARS just to rob and hose people.
No...it's easier for dull minds to just gnash their teeth and bite the hand that feeds them. Disgusting.
You guys do realize that the brunt of the staff is off for the weekend right and they've been working non stop for the past month or more? Its why Zinc, Rekhan, StormShade, MattH, ect haven't even been posting on twitter. Check back tomorrow. They deserve a break.
I understand that being in the queue is frustrating. I've had similar experiences in other games.
However, there are *a lot* of people trying to play right now, and we are doing our best to keep the server stable so that as many people as possible get the best play experience as possible.
"Adding servers" is nowhere near as simple as running down to Fry's or Best Buy and buying more boxes. If it were, it would be done.
But believe me, we are working on the problem. And the queue is one way to do that -- beta testers asked for it, and we added it.
Plesae be patient. These issues will be sorted out.
Not to be a jerk, but shouldn't they be working this weekend? This is head start. This is the first taste of their game that people who are paying will get.
I doubt seriously they'd give everyone the day off at the SAME time they open head start. That makes no logical sense. My guess is they're all to busy actually trying to fix whatever is wrong to take the time to chat about it. Or, they're currently under a communication black out while they figure out what is wrong, how to fix it, and how to tell people.
Personally, I think commo blackouts are rarely a good idea. What gets people really angry is not knowing what is going on. So a few messages to update us on the situation would be helpful. The problem is....there are SO MANY EFFING SPAM POSTS right now covering the exact same thing, sometimes from the same people, that even if a dev DID make an announcement it'd be swiftly swallowed up. Thank the gods for devtracker.

A company with a well known MMOrpg background shouldn't need anymore time then Beta testing to realize their player load on servers. The saying is " You rather have more than not enough" and in business this is they key to making the customers happy. Look at any large business type, Gas, Cigarettes, Fast food, what if you went to the gas station and had to wait in line for 2 hours and then they were like sorry pals we don't have gas here. Or rather, you pay for some fries at Mcdonalds, wait 45 minutes in line and the fries weren't cooked? You get my point, your arguement is moot. Game companies have enough bank roll, especially well established ones like Cryptic, to more than have the servers up properly 2 days before launch. I think with the server issues ontop of the totally unfinished game they may end up being the big losers in this. Players will wait for game fixes but they won't wait to play. It's that simple. Now hush with the stupid defense of a very rich company not doing what their customers are paying for.
Queuing system? I haven't had to queue to get in on Headstart at all (If that's what's being referred to by 'Queuing') - I do agree the downtime seems strange and Tuesday could be interesting, but i'm not really one to rant, so im not going to go off on one about anything just yet.

When you are running a business, you don't DESERVE anything. You do what it takes to satisfy the customer and get the job done. If that means pulling 12-14 hour shifts for a few days that is what it means.

Probably not even linked to the current problem.

Good luck everybody! (Especially Cryptic!)
Noope. The german dev posts are about everything but queues. That's btw only Wishstone, the german com-manager, so no dev at all

If things are this messed up with just the head start folks. The official launch is going to be interesting.
They got the writer to say something...
