I don't think I'm getting the full STO experience

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I played for several hours yesterday and had a blast. Little bit of rubber banding, but nothing too bad. When the servers went down I cleaned my room and ate a sandwich and talked to my boyfriend on the phone. Then the servers came back up and I played late into the night till I was too sleepy to go on. This morning, I logged on to do some missions with my boyfriend. We got kicked once, when I logged back in I was in a queue for maybe five minuets, tops, then I was back in, and picked up the mission where I left off. I'm already level 9, despite a very casual play-style, I imagine I'll have my new science vessel by tonight, and I gotta say I'm having a lot of fun.

But that's what worries me. It seems that this fun game is preventing me from experiencing what STO is really all about, which is, obviously, whining on the forums about every little launch week problem I encounter. I come on the forums and see all of you so gleefully venting your spleens at Cryptic and I'm a little jealous. Why don't I have something to complain about? What am I doing wrong? Why am I able to overlook minor inconveniences and have fun with this game?

It's all Cryptic;s fault, obviously.

:p

When Cryptic said they were added a queue to the game, all those other guys thought we were going to have a live experience with John de Lancie and be whisked off to some magical place. Too many people showed up for the event....

Go back to having fun, it's going to be ok.

Joy of joys! I am now at work and unable to play the game, so I can whine in the forums with the rest of ya'll. :) In order to make it authentic, I'll blame Cryptic for making me have to work. Damn you Cryptic! It's all your fault I'm gainfully employed at a job I love and unable to play your addictive fun game right now now now!!!

I dunno, what's a "Spiner Femme?" Does it have something to do with Brett Spiner, aka Data, aka the Pimpest Robot Ever Built?

Clearly you are not that big a fan, as his name is Brent, not Brett.

Well see, to me he is just Data and will always be Data. His real name is of little consequence. :p

(But yeah, brainfart. It happens when you work with kids all day.)

"Spiner Femmes" are girls obsessed with Data and his full functionality. The one in the documentary "Trekkies" was pretty awesome, in a bizarre sort of way.

    Sorry, just making a joke.

Nah, it's cool. Data's my favorite character and, though I wouldn't say I'm "obsessed" with his full functionality, I will admit to a bit of a crush on him. I've said before on this very forum that I would be that chick in that one TNG episode who wanted him to be her boyfriend. :D

I'd never do that! He may be unemotional, but he was using up 10% of his massive processing power just thinking about her! If that's not robot love I don't know what is!

Cool. Kudos and Welcome. These forums aren't that bad when the servers are up, by the way.

While I support playing the Devil's advocate, at some point you have to realize they are just as bad as everybody claims they are. They have been so bad since the beginning of the head start that I actually canceled my purchase and I will not be playing. (yeah yeah, you're welcome or whatever blind faith response I will get to that)

    Here is the real truth of it;

Nothing will get better without direction. You can either lovingly stroke the egos of people you have never met by insisting that they are doing no wrong when in fact they are... or you can cut to the chase, stop blowing sunshine and roses up backsides, and just call it like you see it.

Sure, you can pretend this game isn't a complete mess but while that means one less person hounding them right now it means lost customers later and everybody on here "whining" is trying to save the game... or they wouldn't be saying anything at all. All of these new players arriving on Tuesday, can you be sure they will feel like you?

Can you be sure that they will be indifferent to server outages, down time, lag, and queue's? For space battles where the most elusive thing I have seen a ship do is turn left? (I almost lost him by the way) For compatibility issues with ATI video cards? Being able to only walk around your bridge then transport out when you are done? (Why doesn't your avatar just sit back in the captains chair when you exit?)

Will they not care about a complete lack of communication from Cryptic other than "we are aware of the issue and are working on it" or draconian control over the forums when things get bad (Down due to high demand? how about closed due to high demand...). It is important that people voice themselves NOW if you want this game to survive... being apathetic and complacent helps NOBODY. Especially not Cryptic.

The people you should be worried about are the ones you never see posting at all... because they are already gone.

Alrighty then. The point of the post was that, with people complaining about waiting in the queue for hours and getting kicked off every five minuets, I've not really experienced anything nearly so bad. Like I said in the first post, I've been kicked exactly once, and was in a queue for five minuets, and had a couple of hours yesterday in which the servers were down during the time I wanted to play. Not bad for launch week, IMO. I've spent far more time having fun in-game than not. So why should I complain about problems I haven't been having?

Not that I don't feel for those who have been having problems. Not being able to play when it's all you can think about really sucks. I just felt like pointing out, among all the doom and gloom, that I, at least, am having fun in this game, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. :)

Dude it's disgusting. I know that being the Grand Nagus means that you have any hoochies you want, but wouldn't it be nice, at least once in awhile, to know that she wasn't vomiting in her mouth while giving you umacs (sp?) ? Decadence and power is no excuse to let your ear hair go crazy.
