In Game Voice Communications Needed!!!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Several people and I were posting in a thread about voice communications in game. For some reason I cannot find it now and I believe that cryptic may have got rid of it…

But anyways this is not something I will give up on I a lifetimer so I will be around for a long time. This is something that I believe the game truly needs and is also something that Atari has already created with some of their other games. This one needs it more than any that I have ever played.

Besides that there are people with special needs where it is very hard for them to type messages and or play the game. For these people they rely heavily on voice communications in game. And I know there will be people that talk about VENT & TS yes most fleets will have one of them. But that aside you will still meet people in game that will not have your VENT or TS info. So how are you supposed to play with those people without having to type 1,000,000 messages? At the moment you can't but once cryptic realizes that we the people want this they will have no choice but to start working on it. Will it be something they can build overnight no it will take some time. But I can assure you I will not give up until they do for everyone who wants this or needs this I am fighting for YOU!!!!

And I'll be there to back you up all the way Caden Cryptic you need to listen. And I know you can because I have seen you do it, but he is completely right this is something this game truly needs!!!! ;)

Er... you think their servers can handle it?

Well sadly since Atari took over Cryptic has basically become the Wal-Mart of the MMO world in order to release an mmo every year or two. So I don't see that happening.

All in good time yes, are they having a rocky start yes. But almost every MMO that I have played from beta has had the same rocky start. But over time their servers will handle all the people and then some they just have to get all the bugs worked out. We are not bringing this up right now saying that they need to stop doing what they're doing. But something that they need to start looking into in the future after the launch of the game!!!

Is there some reason third party voice chat clients like Roger Wilco won't work?

It's been years since I setup a voice chat for a game so, frankly, Roger Wilco may not even exist anymore. But surely there is a third party client you, and a group of friends, could log into to have voice chat amongst yourselves.

Now, Voice Chat for the entire community -- that's a whole other ball of wax.

Yes it would work but we're not talking about that. We are talking about the people you meet in game during the mission or during a fleet battle… The times you don't have the give them the information to come to your own personal voice communications server, that’s were talking about:cool:

Well I know I would probably use in-game voice chat if it were available but in my experience most of the people use vent or teamspeak. In other games with voice chat the only ones inhabiting it seemed to be 10 year olds screaming into the mic and honestly do you want to go into PvP with a kid screaming "Hit the Bird of Prey!!!" or "Follow me I'm leet".

Vent and Teamspeak work just fine. If your rig can't handle them + a game, then its time to upgrade

An in-game voice chat would be extremely useful, especially with auto-pugs. If an older game like LOTRO can do it, why not a brand new one?

I think you're completely missing the point I did not say that we need voice communications because your computer can handle it. I said it for the people that you meet in game during a mission. Or for the people who have handicaps that makes it hard for them to type in game. Almost every MMO that I have played till this day has some kind of voice communications, for God sakes it is 2010 we are not living in the Stone Age anymore.

The way this game is built it really does need in game voice, think of it this way...ur automatically put in a group for an instance, the instance difficulty scales to the group size. you have no idea who the people in ur group are, you're in the middle of battling can't really stop firing to type instrustions, no coordination = fail multiple times. you leave the instance and turn off auto grouping, and do the mission on easy mode, you remember what happened last time you auto grouped so you leave it off. everyone does this so the community starts to crumble, community sucks = game sucks. all could have been avoided with in game voice chat.

Some of the idiots I've been auto grouped with aren't the sort I'd like to listen to. It's needless coding, the only people worth listening to are your own guild, who will most likely have ventrilo or teamspeak already.

I don't know about you but I use steam, tends to work very well with chat and voice, plus all smart people have a steam account.

And don't expect to get this a few days after launch, WoW didnt get their useless one till what 3 years after launch give or take a half a year.

Yeah, I have to agree. In-game voice chat wouldn't be so great (imho). But if you could have voice chat limited to your team or Fleet that would be pretty cool.

With in-game voice chat I can just see every noob at Earth Spacedock asking "Where's Sulu" and 1,000 veterans trying to answer them at once.

Well, Im all for an in game voice chat but...first fix the current issues.....also...MAKE IT SUPPORT ANOTHER SOUND DEVICE. One reason I like Vent or Teamspeak is that I can keep the game sound on the comp speakers and have the voice chat in my USB headset. No game I have played supports this, but I could be wrong

Personally I just want to have the ability of communicating with people in game without typing. If they are babbling on about stuff I'll simply meet them or disconnect from the channel. If you have played any online game in MMO or first-person shooter and others you know that you do not have to listen to the people. Just because you got voice communications doesn't mean you have to listen to all the people. But you have ability to communicate with them without typing if you so choose.;)

You bring a very good point, like I said from the beginning I know there are other problems at hand and I am not saying for them to drop everything there doing and start working on voice communications. I simply want them to put on the board of things to do down the road.

I really don't know how much clearer we can be. We are talking about team chat or having the ability to create your own chat channel like SWG, EQ2 and all Sony games have. really is not that hard to understand..

Starbuc I like to take that little father I have played many MMOs and almost all of them today have some kind of voice communications in game. Some people like it so people don't. But the point is you have the ability to use it if you so choose. Where with Star Trek online you do not have that choice you so we must fight for and we will.;)

I wouldn't want the extra server loading and lag that a game-native voice chat function would entail.

Cryptic has enough problems with their servers already.

If I want voice chat I'll use Ventrilo.

No, when its built in its too easy and people expect you to use it, thats how it was with DDO. Better to keep it third party.

Any form of communication takes too long, talking can take whole seconds. Far too slow for combat. While i understand how voice chat for the sake of just killing time talking while you are grinding is appealing, i like other things.

You are totally missing the point all together. It's about and gave it to do not know and completing your episodes without having to type I,000,000 messages to them!!!
