ok so i'm seeing alot of people going
"i payed money, i want in now"
or
"This is the worst launch ever, cryptic ur rubbish"

get real guys.
there has never been a hiccup free launch of an MMO in history.

Star Trek is one of the longest and most popular IP's in the world. when news that an MMO was being made of it of course people are gonna flock to play it.
Nearly 50 years of Lore, history and fans are in this....

cryptic miscalculated the number for open beta. and have done it again, but instead of being complete and utter fools and blaming them for trying to do their best why don't u just support them and say:

"We know theres a problem but we're gonna be patient, please get it fixed ASAP so we can play"
not rage and rant on about how YOU and not everyone else can't play.

yes i've payed good money to play and i want to play but its not the be all and end all of the universe, we still have 2 retail releases to get through first and then maybe a week or 2 of fine tuning...

so my advice is to stop flaming and wait before you make urself look like an idoit

    You get real...

Apple may well be one of the top IT companies producing top-selling and cool products here and there, but this success doesn’t render the company immune to various lawsuits. Like any other big IT companies, Apple is hounded by several lawsuits caused by product-related issues which the company needs to settle financially.

One of these lawsuits is the case filed by some Canadian residents who purchase the Apple iPod player before June 24, 2004. Those iPod buyers filed a class-action lawsuit against Apple for misrepresenting the actual battery life of its iPod players. Apple claimed eight hours before charging, but the plaintiff found it to last for only three hours. The legal dispute was won by the plaintiff and Apple would have to give them $45 credit which they can use on Canadian Apple retail or online stores. This is reported to cost Apple around $36 million in settlement.

A similar case is facing Apple in San Jose California. This time involving the power adapters of Apple’s PowerBook and iBook computers. A class-action suit was also filed against Apple for failing to correct the problems encountered by users of the said adapters. In 2001, Apple had to recall around 570,000 power adapters due to overheating and sparking. If approved the U.S. District Attorney of San Jose, Apple will have to pay each owners of the iBook and PowerBook $79 each. This would amount to around 2.3 million total settlement damages for Apple

I should be able to bring a lawsuit against cryptic for false advertising... (they even tell you lifetime is 1 price then charge you a complete different price ALOT HIGHER and dont even tell you)

You know, Dead Hooker jokes are amazing comedy.
Gilbert Gottfreid has this rather long joke about a guy going to a cat house, nose running, long story short, everyone laughs.
90% of people I've told this to laugh uncontrollably and 10% are so offended they laugh a little at least.

By this logic you would assume Deuce Bigalow, European Gigolo would be one of the best movies ever.
    Sadly, it isnt.

Some people need to do one.
Cyrptic are to blame - noone else.....

The consumer is king -- but being treated like a court jester - possibly because there will always be people with low expectations to support the company - maybe they think they are therefore supporting Cyrptic.

Nah, wake up, companies need direct feedback and it won't be good if you can't even use the product...

All that article showed was the difference between a good developer and a bad one. Blizzard quickly responded with communication to let everyone know what the problems were, how they planned on fixing it, and they also gave people free game time to make up for the down time of the servers. All you proved with that article is Cryptic really doesn't know what they're doing as a company. As of right now Cryptic has offered us nothing in consolation, doesn't speak to us, and doesn't even report on it's launcher when the server is up or down.

heres the problem with you logic. If you payed for a new car, and the dealer told you "Well, we didnt think we were going to sell as many as we did, so were going to let you drive the car sometimes, but other times were going to give it to Tom over here." you would flip ****. That is EXACTLY what is happening here, and if it come time for me to fork up a monthly subscription, and the que is still an issue, im going to keep playing AO. For free.

I agree with you. These are nothing but a bunch of spoiled little kids who didn't read the agreement when they bought the game nor the one when they signed up.

And get this, some of these people are in their 20.s heading into their 30's. How grown up they must feel, how immature they look.

Watch out they'll be the ones who reply to mine and yell and call name and use thier favorite word because it makes them feel so grown up, thats right the F-Bomb. Or...I know they'll something stupid.

Why should we settle for mediocrity? The excuse that it happens to all other MMO's is getting old and sets the standard. And since folks are content to just say, "Oh well, it's how it's always been," nothing ever improves because the devs know that they can make miscalculated errors and get it away with it.

When do we, as a consumer, start setting the standard based on OUR expectations? If no one makes a stand, and say this is not acceptable, nothing will ever change. Thank God the rest of the products I buy do not have the same standards as a MMO.

The problem is what you 'think' you paid for and what you actually paid for are very different things.

You 'think' you paid for flawless perfection.

What you actually paid for is an MMORPG, which includes bugs and issues.

You also get what you paid for, and in 2010, you have not paid very much at all, when you compare the other entertainment you get for a similar price (Going to 1 movie a month, a small lunch 1x a month, parking at some venues, a few sodas at Disneyland, etc).

Yes, buggy launches are a pain, but its what we get. If they are too unbearable, just don't sub until after things stabilize. During that month, you can go see a single Movie, and maybe get a soda w/o popcorn with the money you saved.

Quickly is soon as the servers went down they were on the forums explaining what happened. That is quickly. I was there for the launch and saw the posts. They also went to gaming sites and explained there too, and also updated their front page with updated info as well. And like you said, you got a lot of free time to make up for the down time as well. Cryptic to the point has given us either limited or no information, and offered nothing in consolation. This is bad business.

It's the WoW forums, really. They can't possibly police that a playerbase of that size so they let them run around spouting self-gratificatory TRIBBLE night and day. The only trouble is they figure any MMORPG's forums must be that way, so it's up to the rest of the MMORPG community to deal with these twits.
