If after todays fiasco and obvious revelation of what we're going to expect when this game goes live can you lifetime subscribers get your money back if you want?
Cryptic offered refunds on lifetime subs up until 30 days after launch for Champions Online. Having set that precedent themselves, they would have a very hard time doing less with STO.
No its not. Sheesh, where have you been? This is early access. This isn't servers under full load..wow, what some people will accept as normal is amazing
The fact that we bought lifetime subscriptions means we're looking ahead and past the launch week, which has always been insane for MMOs and will always be insane for MMOs. In fact, we look past the first 16 months! We invested in the long-run because we expect the long-run to be worth it. Why would we judge the long-run based on the problems of a few days at the very start?
Seriously, stop worrying about the lifetime subscribers. We don't want your concern.

So go back and play your night elf in wow if it makes you so upset.

That was during the free month for CO. From what I remember in beta, the life time sub starts as soon as you input your retail code, there's no free month. So after the sub starts it may be difficult to do.

The technical aspects don't matter. CO lifetimers could get refunds for 30 days after official launch. STO subscribers will expect equal treatment and, based on a long time of working in customer support, I can almost guarantee you they will get it. CS may push back a little bit, but if you lean on them, you will get your money back.

What happened today?
Another server crash? More Lag? Broken Missions?
Or did the database get corrupted and all of our toons got lost?
In Europe you could try quoting the regulations regarding "cool off periods" for purchases. That usually extends to a week, give or take the service involved. SInce the game is not "live" live, you could probably get your money back up to Live. Not the European release date (Feb 5) but the actual universe Live date.
In the States, you've got til midnight the 3rd day of purchase. Then you're boned.
All things considered, we're not even in Live yet. When I last played WoW I was STILL seeing queues primetime on weekends.
I figured that if a game has a free first month, that you wouldn't be charged (including life time subs) until after that first month elapsed. I could be mistaken.
My brother is a bigger MMO player than I am, but my understanding was that he was able to play the first month free of games like WoW and cancel before the free month was up, therefore purchasing the game and playing the free month, but never having to pay any subscription for the time played. I know they asked him for his credit card information up front, but I don't think any subscription fee was ever charged to his card since he canceled during the free play period.
According to Atari's site, STO will have a free trial period of 30 days. I'd figure you'd be able to cancel/change subscription plans during that period.

You forget that Lifers have no "free" month, have already been charged, and therefore would need to make their decision a lot faster.
Your argument does however apply to RETAIL purchasers.

Was just going to say that...
By the way, due to all the issues and so I know ahead of time. What would I need to do to request a refund for my lifetime sub? I mean correct procedure? Put a CS ticket in or is there some cancel option I'm not seeing?
Well, I'm not looking to cancel right now. Provided they either get rid of this "shard" that's clearly not robust enough to handle the game or add more hardware to the shard, I'll be quite happy.
However, if things are still in this state on March 2nd, I will very disappointed.

Contacting them via phone would be your greatest chance of getting it done (this is generally true for most CS issues)

I echo this sentiment. I have played nearly a dozen MMO's in my life so far. I expect server crashes and queue's in the beginning, in fact I expect game crashing bugs for the first few months. I will get a good sense of what the game will be and the direction is headed into in the first 6-12 months. Me personally, I am not the gimme now type person.
I'm unhappy about crashes, but somewhat optimistic about fan interest.
Former MMO's: EQ,EQ2,SWG,Guildwars,Shadowbane,AO,WoW,CoH,CO,DDO,Eve,UO,AC
Lifer's do get a free month included with the game purchase, but it's probably 'overlapped' by the blanket "LIFETIME" flag on the account. They are seperate keys.

and what some people will rage about is also amazing. I think meds are in order.
Why would I want a refund? If I can't play now I'll play "next week" or when it's stable, and stable it WILL be eventually. With a lifetime in pocket I could care less about fees and all...
Granted I'd want to play asap, but then again my patience is great and I can wait...but that's just me...

What is with WE this and WE that? speak only for yourself. No way i am cancelling my lifetime sub.
Comments
and i don't see what your complaining about, fiasco, revelation???
I think your seeing problems where there are none.

I'm a Lifer, by the way.
You lifers I'd show them what you think of this. Demand a refund if things don't improve drastically, soon.

Just frustrated is all...

Me = Lifer x2

So I'd have 30 days to decide to keep it?
That way you know NOW how you will be covered later. If you leave it too late, you have noone to blame but yourself.

You sir are a wise man.
Or just one experienced in the ways of mmos. I just don't get what all this pre launch drama is about from all these guys.
