They must have just implemented this...
    So lemme recap...

When server isn't down, now we must wait to play??

Sounds fun! I'm certainly buying game cards now to wait in queues! for their ONE server....

TBH I wouldn't mind a queue on the server if there were OTHER SMEGGING SERVERS TO CHOOSE!

Having one server means that Cryptic are effectively forcing people to wait before they can log in. In other MMO's (WoW) this was bypassed by the ability to log on to a different server if the queue was long. We have no such option here.

    Bad times :(

LOL I got disconnected from the queue at number 98 of 98. Now I'm number 411. WTF, Cryptic this is not a solution!

Maybe they haven't put in the new hardware yet. Maybe we hadn't hit the cap the rest of the weekend so we didn't know the queue was there.

When WoW came out, the queue was TWO or more hours long. At least we HAVE one now, unlike open beta where you just had to keep checking....

Maybe a queue to login was ok, but I got booted from game and placed in queue....

I'm happy to see that the queue has been implemented, but I have to admit I'm a bit worried.

There is absolutely no reason we should be seeing a queue in headstart. I would imagine there are less people in headstart than open beta...and a LOT less than when retail launch hits in a couple days. This really has me worried about the condition and capabilities of the server.

I'm not complaining, I really enjoy the game and am looking forward to watching it evlove. I just really hope this is a test or something like that.

If the server gets full NOW, how is Cryptic going to handle the flood on launch day. No dev has answered that one yet. This isn't their first MMO, the load can't be a surprise.

Even if the pre-order/head start WAS a surprise, they should be set up NOW for the flood of people on launch day.

Say launch day is 100,000 people.
Say head start is 10,000 people.

They should be setup for 100,000 people NOW. Which would mean head starters would never see the server load if Cryptic was at all ready for launch day.

Luckely people seem to be getting disconnects a lot, so you should burn pretty fast through the queue... :P

A queue is a good idea, really, I was thinking the yshould look into adding one.

I'm sure it's just a "please wait while we get you into the game without breaking the login server" queue and not a "you are unable to enter the game until x people have logged out" queue.

I must admit I find this a bit strange. If Cryptic is firm in their belief that they shouldn't have separate servers to serve the European community, but rather chuck everyone in to the same world, they must develop the technology needed to serve a large quantity of users.

Being an old Ultima Online and EVE player, I'm skeptical to the whole idea of different instances in the first place. However, seeing as STO already has this system implemented, I suppose the easy solution would be to simply expand the grid with more servers?

This que isnt the bad thing:

The thing that is BAD.... Cryptic kicking out people already in game to make them login on a Que.

Im sorry Cryptic, but that is just bad form. People already in game doing missions shouldnt be kicked out randomly so that others can get in. I mean yeah you want to make playtime a little fair for all, but to be fair, all this Craptastic server issues, down time, login server errors and now Que stuff.

You might not think it, but we Paid you guys good money so that we could get a head start not continue the Closed Beta testing and server testing. By now you should have had enough time over the years to read reports on how many accounts are active, how many are going to be round for head start, how many are going to be active for live and choose servers that will cope with that.

I don't think I'm going to be paying to be stuck in a queue. I guess they have till the end of the free month, as far as I'm concerned, to fix this.

If I remember correctly, WoW's queue system gives you priority over others in the list if you got kicked, to the point where you could just log back in as if there was no queue.

Of course if you would be offline for too long your place on the server is given to someone else.

They should modify the queue system to work this way for STO, it is an acceptable compromise, I think.

QFT. And Craptastic is suck a brilliant word, it describes this situation perfectly!

The game is unstable when going between "MAPS", I get botted more 50% of the time. If I have to sit in a sodding queue every time that happens Cryptic (and Valve as I bought this through Steam) will be receiving a nasty email from one of their "sponsors"

I agree that having a queue system to limit the amount of people on a server is a good idea...when there's multiple servers....I'm just afraid that once I actualy pay full price for the game and subscribe that this is what I have to look forward to :( And that would mean an immediate cancellation for me unfortunately.

And yes WoW does have server queues from time to time..but it also has 50+ servers ( realms ) to choose from and you have the option of choosing a low/medium pop server to make sure you don't get queued. Not trying to compare this to another MMO but I see people often saying " WoW used to have this so it's ok "

I'm puzzled by responses like this one. There should be no "please wait so you don't break the login server"-queue. If many players attempting to connect to the login server at the same time causes a problem, it is _this_ problem that needs to be addressed. Not bypassing it by creating an unnecessary diversion.

In the time it's taken for me to move ahead three places (688 to 685) over 300 more people been added to the queue behind me.... fun.
Well, time to go do something while I wait for that to count down... slowly

Has anyone's actual position in said queue moved at all? I've been sitting at 396 for about 10 minutes now.. Only the number behind me gets bigger.

This is true. However on each WoW server I THINK they have a better queue system, where if you got kicked you could get back in if you logged in straight after.

I could be wrong, but I never suffered from queues while playing WoW, and I played on one of the bigger servers, and I'm pretty sure that's how Blizzard manage their queues.
