I would really like to see a camara followinng option that just follows the player. Not the target, not a free camara, but one that follows me. When I turn left, it turns left to stay behind me and etc.
Well I am glad that I am not the only one. The free camara wouldn't be too bad if i werent playing on a laptop that doesnt have the mouse attached half the time, and trying to control a camara with a touchpad is no good.
This is first post on this since the great archiving the other day. I expect there to be many threads on this topic again - soon. Sadly none of the previous ones apparently warranted a dev response. So I would not entertain such a notion this time around either.
Yeah...Chase Camera is what it's acually called and I posted about this at the start of OB.
Though I'm not sure if the Devs know what it is. Don't know if they even saw my post on it, but the game needs it badly. Especially if you ever want to use a joystick or controller.

I'd also like for the camera to be adjustable withOUT snapping back to over the shoulder while in Ground aiming mode. It's impossible to aim/select a target with the mouse when the camera autosnaps back as soon as you release it. >.<
I agree with you, that would be a nice addition especially for Klingons and Escort pliots who have a 45 degree cone of damage that is difficult to aim when you're looking at your ship from a funny angle after a manuever....
I can't remember which game (I'm thinking JTL/SWG), but it had a camera setting for elasticity which meant the camera was locked behind you at all times but when you turn there was a certain amount of camera lag so it seemed more flowing and natural. It didnt move like it was attatched to a solid pole out behind you, but much more flexible. This might work really well here.
No Chase cam is a show stopper for 4 of my friends and my wife!
She actually got so frustrated trying to pilot her ship she threw her trackball at her monitor!
What is also needed is for the current Target Follow Camera to properly reset into "Chase" mode when you have no target! The biggest problem I have is that the camera will remain pointing at the last target even after it is dead.

This one is actually in there!
go to your options and check under... (damn can't remember the exact tab) but it is the LAST option on the list with a yes or no checkbox. think it's called "use dynamic camera when aiming" or something like that.

if you go into options and choose "follow enemy" as your camera option from the pulldown menu, it will act as a follow cam if you do not have a target selected! (I was trying to figure out how to NOT get it to do this, LOL)
Yes but when fighting she gets frustrated with that camera views as then it's facing her target. lol
I setup my 360 controller and suggest any one who is serious about STO to do like wise as it alleviates a lot of these issues via ease of control use/movement. But for KB/Mouse people it's clunky w/o a true chase cam.
I do appreciate the response and appreciate the intent, it's just not an option that works for her. She wants it "Stuck to the back of the ship." hehe
Controling your ship with the LMB & RMB pressed together, and the camera follows your ship, just means using keybinds for everything else. Im guess since doing this gives the Chase Cam effect, I doubt Cryptic will change it.

Forcing users to keep the right mouse button pressed all the time is the solution. /sarcasm
How hard can it be to add such an option for a feature that is already in game?
Actually cant beleive they didnt build this in to begin with. Every major MMO has this, cant believe it didnt occur to them especially for space combat.
They built so many camera options into the space battle, every one but the very basic, and completely useful chase cam. Very frustrating in a space battle with multiple opponents, and there you are, staring at the side view of your ship!
Loath though I am to show support for a post whose title has a spelling error... It would be nice to have a "fixed follow"/chase cam option.
The hilarious part is, you cannot do this in space and yet, the ground view already does EXACTLY this - so the mechanics for it are definitely built into the game engine!
Especially in ground battle actual camera setting really doesn't suit any FPS game genre. Try and learn from games like CS, these are PRO. As it actualy now moving or hiding when I'm in fight is pain in TRIBBLE.
I asked for this in OB too. Chase camera is a MUST specially flying an escort with dual cannons because you have to point your ship to the target or the cannons won't shoot... please devs, chase camera is my biggest request for the game to improve playability and fun.... don't let me down.
Autofire for all weapons except mines/torpedoes would be another great adition

I'd also go for the ability to map keys to control camera rotation.

Definitely want a chase cam.
And did they break the cam lock? Every time I load into a space zone I'm zoomed back far from my ship.

I hate having to spin my mouse around for the camera, im already spamming spacebar and allocating powers.
