2 x 4870 on Vista Ultimate 64, ccc10.1 -
Please post your card setup, ccc version and operating system.
2D control panels, (chat, options etc) are all clear and have no issues.
Imagine these screens flashing between each other in fractions of a second...

I have tried every setting I can see in both ccc 9.12 and 10.1. I have tried other solutions that were posted on these forums with no luck. I have checked the card temps and they are fine, (usually between 40-50c). I have also tried both versions of ccc with crossfire on and off.
I have included screenshots as well as a title that is easy to understand and describes the problem. This issue has been posted before but without a title or description that is easy to search for or understand. Hopefully this may help others in the future when we find a solution...

I am running STO on:
AMD X4 Phenom 9850+
8GB DDR2 Ram
2x ATI Radeon HD 4850 (crossfire)
Vista Ultimate 64Bit
Its really annoying because I missed 2 days of the Headstart since now because it´s non playable like this
In the open and the closed Beta i didn´t have had this issues.
Plz Help !
Too many people buy a 850 watt PSU for their powerful system, yet dont add up what each of the components need. You may very well have a 1000 watt PSU, but if that PSU isn't putting out the amps you need on the 12v rails, it's useless. Also remember, once you go into SLI or crossfire mode, your Power consumption is going to go through the roof.
You could also try rolling back your drivers a few versions.
Reason i say this is because on another system i've played this game on, i use crossfired HD4850's and have zero problem at all. This leads me to believe it's something on the end users side, not cryptics.

I have tried the last 2 ATi drivers. Going back farther than that should not be required. STO is not, and will not be the only application I run. My other games have run and still do run well on the the last two ccc updates. (9.12 and 10.1)
Instead of should not be required, did you try it? If it still doesnt work, then its a problem either on your side with configuration, or a problem with the game supporting Crossfire/SLi,which it doubtful, due to a lot of people using it with zero problems)
Edit: Download and run http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php for me.
At the bottom left, where it says "+12v", tell me the number there. and the number on the -12v.
This program will tell you definitly whether it's a power or heat issue. Or if it is indeed the games fault.
Could easily be a problem with the drivers. ATI curently have problems with their drivers and their 5*** series cards. geforce are the same way.
Remember, it's only a handful of people that are having these extreme issues. If it was the game, then everyone or the vast majority would have them problems.
I think it might be something to do with ATI cards in general.
Dasky
my hd4890 is water-cooled and also has custom IANDH voltage-regulator heatsinks.
And to "tedgp123" ....thank you for your ideas......but you sound like a cryptic fanboy^^
I´m really sure that our PSU is right....why should every other game run fine and only STO make this trouble?
I am playing the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta atm too....and even there everything is fine on high details.
Hope ATI or Cryptic will fix it soon.
*greetz*
Cryptic fanboi... ok. If thats what you call people who troubleshoot problems.
Whenever there are computer issues, any tech support desk will tell you to go over your system and connection with a fine comb.
As for PSU issues, it was a suggestion. This game draws a lot more power due to it being more intense on your system than almost any other MMO out there.
Liek i said, any tech support person will ask you to go over each piece of equipement, roll back drivers, try different setups to see if it is your system at first. Only when they are satisfied it isnt, will they issue an internal notice to get engineers to check their end.
But hey, if you want to go on blaming cryptic without checking your system in detail and seeing if different drivers, setups help, go ahead. Cryptic wont do anything to help you, unless you help yourself first.
I realize people have said they've messed around with Catalyst already, but just to make sure this specific point is covered, Catalyst AI can produce these issues with Crossfire configurations if it's set to advanced, so make sure it's off or set to basic (single card configurations are fine).
Of course, given that Vista X64 seems to be the common OS between people suffering from this problem, it also very likely that the issue simply lies there, in which case it falls on Cryptic and/or Ati to fix the issue.
Again im running 3x ATI 5770s on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
I installed Speedfan 4.0, .44V on the +12v side and there is no -12v, Hottest card running at 35 Degrees C
Im going to try to disable Crossfire to see if that fixes it. But after that I am out of options.
Making a fraps of the graphical error atm.
p.s you can hear the Hon horn in the background lol.
But thank you for the help anyway.
I just installed the 10.1 drivers without CCC....I use Ati Tray Tools instead of it.
After this i could play the game without any issues, but i noticed that Crossfire was disabled this way!
After a reboot Crossfire was running....but if i can run the game!?...don´t know
I think i will try it tomorrow when the US/Canada people are sleeping!
You will hear from me after testing!
I have an open ticket about it but have yet to get a response. just opened it today though.
6gb RAM
ATI 4870x2 (2gb) Thats x2 on one card, not crossfire
Vista 64bit
No issues like that. I have some strange shadow problems that become very apparent in space and sometimes the screen kinda flickers when moving the camera around. But i think that is just because this games engine does not like ATI. Had similar issues with Champions.
I however do have a 1 kilowatt PSU. You may want to take the above posters advice and check your components and PSU wattage availability.
When is the head start over? I think I made it to the medical bay... oh well, hopefully this is resolved soon.
First I used the Programm "Driver sweeper" to uninstall all ati drivers. I needed to uninstall Catalyst Control Center seperately but be sure you remove it!
Then i downloaded the 10.1 drivers WITHOUT Catalyst Control Center.
I first installed the drivers and after this i installed Ati Tray Tools.
I needet to activate crossfire maually in the tray tools but now everything works fine
Hope that´s some help for anyone of you!
I tried to test ATi Tray Tools as well as Rivatuner but had too much trouble installing on Vista 64. I could not get either to run.
with dual monitors i use catalyst control center to run Multiple display games, so this is not an option for me and i hope STO Devs will be able to solve this problem.
BTW I have only an ATI3870, so it doesn´t seem to be a problem with new cards...returning to the previous drivers which workend didn´t change a thing...hopefully there will be a solution soon...until the i think I´ll keep my activation code right where it is...
O and I submitted a ticked. I got a reply and they closed the ticket, saying I should reinstall my sound driver to fix sound problems... The category was Graphical Issues....
