Liberated Borg Disappointment...

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Is anyone else disappointed about this?

When I think liberated borg, I think 7 of 9. Sleek implants here and there that I'd be able to arrange like tattoos or scars.

But we are given these huge, asthetically ugly eye pieces that looks like vcr's duct taped onto our heads.

Also why can we only make human liberated borgs? Why not Bajoran or Vulcan?

Also why the hell do they limit what skills we can take? All sins would be erased in my eyes if we had a complete set of skills to choose from.

Don't get me wrong. I love the game, fun as hell with huge potential. But the lib borg was a bit disappointing.

Am I the only one here? Let me know, I want to know what you all think.

Agreed. I ended up making my borg look like any other human, because I didnt want fugly big attachements on my head.

Some nice little 7 of 9 subtle implants would have been nice.

Can't hate it too much for something they probably threw together very last moment.

At least I have Borg implants. :D

yes thats the thing, I'd either like to be aesthetically pleasing OR functional. With lack of implants and selectable skills I loose out on both.

But that is the nature of the beast I guess.

Well, from a mechanic standpoint I can understand them not giving a lot of race options, at least for now. That adds another whole dimension of needed compatibility with the various customization options.

I am a bit disappointed that the options are limited to the bulky headpieces. Seven, for instance, had an eye piece like that that was removed, but is the reason for the "connector" piece remaining above her eye. It's very unlikely Starfleet would have retained the whole contraption as we see it. If anything we'd only see the connector piece.

As for traits, I don't have a problem with that. Borg are given many enhancements that would remain even after leaving the Collective, so having some "forced traits" isn't a big deal. I could argue that they should have those in addition to 4 selectable ones, which would make the most sense, but that could pose a balancing issue against other races.

Fact is, canon-wise, a former drone would be superior to others of their race, but they can't safely reflect that in a game that's all about balancing.

Yeah, I picked the one with a tube that goes from the side of the head to the back of the head... Others were too "BORG" to be on a liberated borg.

It's mostly for coding purposes. They would have to make all new skins for the 3-D models. And the race list would be twice the size it is now. Then people would be arguing, "Why can't I have one of my racial bonuses with my borg bonuses?"

This way they only add one new race and they can use existing skins for the modeling. Otherwise liberated borg would be a 3-month endeavor. Sometimes, it's just not worth the labor costs.

It's the one in that episode with the metal piece covering the nose. You know... the one... in that episode...

Anyway, it makes sense in and around the TNG-Voyager era that most of the drones we saw would either be unrecognizable aliens or races we know to have a large presence in our space. Bajorans, until the joined the Federation, wouldn't have likely been in the path of the Borg often, so wouldn't have been assimilated.

The real question becomes... why in Voyager did all the Borg look human? They should have been much more alien. Ahhhh budgeting/time restraints, how I deplore thee.

Yet, the Borg assimilated Neelix's race....

Your trying to tell me that a race of Jar Jar Binks is worth more than a race that have access to super wormhole aliens and their orbs ?

I understand and respect this. However customer satisfaction should be a priority if this is being sold to your "hardcore" base.
When's the last time you saw a Bajoran Borg?

Well this argument is irrelevant, because one can say, when is the last time you've seen a [insert custom race here].

The Voyager episode where 7 of 9 meets the 3 other former Borg who she had linked together. One of the three was a Bajoran female Starfleet officer who had been assimilated. In the end, the link between the 3 was broken but they only had a short amount of time to live before they would die. I am too lazy to look up episode name but we have seen Borg from a wide range of species including Klingon, Cardassian, Bajorian, Vulcan, Romulan, etc...

Be happy with what you got? Its more than most people?

I think the borg options are pretty decent, you can even remove the implants entirely and just have the pale skin and eyes.

 The playable Borg we get is "Nerfed" & has no skills to specializes in Guns or Martial Arts compared to other races that you can get. Other races that you can choose from will get 1 to 3 race traits plus you get to choose 1 to 3 other skill traits depending on what race you pick. Here is the problem.... Not all the Trait skills tree will be displayed.....& this extends out not just the Borg but other races as well.

The Borg only has one good space trait that is part of its race traits and that is "Efficient.: The Borg "Nanites" is OK as well....But here is the problem...Other than the one obvious choice you get in the open skill tree which is the "Borg Neural Blast" the Borg has no other useful attack traits. everything in the skill tree is for defense passive & mostly useless for space & ground.

Here is what I propose that Cryptic & Atari can take into consideration for the next patch before we go live to the open public.

    {#1} Problem with Borg: is they are not really good at anything. They cant specialize in Guns nor Martial Arts, They will not do well with guns or any weapons because they do not have the Soldier skill to choose from. {Borg should have had an attached arm Gun and a full Borg out fit ..But thats another discussion.}

(#2) Problem with Borg: They are not good at Hand-To-Hand Martial Arts combat...Even tho they do have "Nanites" it is a close range ground skill. But thats it.... no Covert skill. They do have Physical Strength but thats not enough to specialize into Martial Arts with... You need Covert as well.

Please Cryptic & Atari take these next suggestions into serious consideration for the next patch before we go live to the entire world.

Please open up the skill tree fully for Borg characters like you have it for the Unknown Alien builds. Or at least please and in a ground weapons skill for guns & Hand-to-hand such as:

    Covert for Martial Arts
    Soldier for Guns

Thank you for your time & Considerations.
