What did you choose for your race, and why?

Evening all!

Whist we're still waiting for the servers to rise from the dead like a glorious phoenix I thought I'd create this thread in which we can discuss why whe chose which race/traits we did, and if we plan to make a difference "main" character when the retail keys arrive, why the Joined Trill are worth the wait.

I'll start off. My other half kicked me off the PC and made my current character. A female Betazoid science officer. I can't remeber the traits she chose either. However, I will be making a Joined Trill when the retail key arrives. Mainly for the nice trait but also becuase I have a cunning RP idea behind it.

Your turns :)

I made a customized Caitian. Once they are added to the game in a couple of months I'll remake him. Since there isn't alot of canonized lore around this race, and I'm a cat person (though dogs are cool too!) I wanted a feline race. If I actually get into the RP aspect of STO, I think a Caitian has a rich background to pull from. My traits are a mix of racial attributes I thought a cat would have and tactician traits, since that's the route I'm following. So far, fun times!

I made a Romulan, custom alien with some random traits added like agression, all dressed up in green. When the Romulans are finally added as a race in a few months i will remake him this time with the proper ship ^_^

I chose a really nasty looking alien and set it to some random stats. Why? Because I knew I wouldn't be playing very long and the server would go offline very soon.

    Male Andorian Engineer.

I like the Engineer's abilities, I love Andorians... especially in the Enterprise series, and I can't wait to get my Galaxy-class.

I am playing a Benzite. I had thought about making one using the alien race so I could change it but the respirators were not available as an option so I made a "pure" Benzite.

The reason i selected their race is because they are logical and analytical and it would be a nice alternative in a universe filled with pointy eared Vulcans. Plus, i like catfish. :p

    I went Cardassian.
Couldn't figure out how to do a Tamarian...
...so i chose to do something non-standard but recognizable.

And if I may say so myself... it turned out fantastic.

A Betazoid Science Officer is my main - I'm the defender to my husband's customized alien Tac scrapper. My plans include having an all-female crew for her.

My solo char is a Human Tac - a newly fledged Lt who can trace his bloodline back to the Mongol hordes.

Why I picked those...I can't help it, I'm a roleplayer at heart. Partway through creating them, it suddenly hit me exactly what their stories were.

Went with a straight up human male. I've had a story in mind for a character since long before STO came around and I saw this as a great opportunity to put it into action. And plus I like being "one of the good guys"

I picked Alien Race because I want to pick all 4 traits. I prefer traits that help with space events whereas most canned races traits deal with ground combat.

I created an "unknown" race, mostly because I wanted to play with the character creator. I have a pretty cool backstory built up for her now though. :)

Male Vulcan Tactical Officer...and yes he has a goatee

I know there's a lot of beneficial space traits but I couldn't make a Vulcan without nerve pinch and mind meld.

Nice replies so far. Anyone else got something to say? For those particularly proud of their alien genesis, post a link to a screeny so we can see your awesome creations!

Well, I did a human. Not because I luck imagination but wanted to make something that looks like Commander Shepard and I am flying USS Normandy. I just like Mass Effect. I also like Star Wars so i created an engineer Luke Skywalker, and USS Jedi. Yeah I know. I have very bad imagination :).

I wanted to make an alien race purely for the sake of having something unique, the amount of customizable options really appeals to me. This is what I ended up with, I wanted to have no nose at all but there still seems to be some definition :S

Both of these reasons for me also. Can't pass up Efficiency paired with Warp Core Theory and Techie.... my alien guy turned out pretty well too.

Jeesh. I've teamed with you and I didn't even catch the bloody references <LOL>.

Human male. Because I'm, uh, a human male. And um, that's all I know how to be. And he has a ponytail because I miss having one of those. Least I kept my beard.

I made a human partially because it's a vague self-representation and partially because humans have always been the core race of Trek. I fully expect to make other alts though, probably remake my beloved "butch *****" Andorian tac from beta, and then a joined trill to make use of my preorder and then -- oh wait, WHAT? I ALREADY RAN OUT OF SLOTS?!?!?

I went and created my own race. Logged on at 10am pst for the head start and 4 hours latter i was in the tutorial. I didnt just create a look, I wrote out a biography. For STO i am taking it too that super nerdy trekkie lvl. Even been filling out the supplemental log and stuff. Really trying to go for a Star Trek experience and seeing all that they have to offer. So for its almost like being in my own Star Trek show.......Almost. Waiting for server to come back up to get screenshots.

Scientist Liberated Borg. Being liberated from the borg allows for a fresh start, which melds with a simple backstory wonderfully.

Female Vulcan civilian Scientist. I wrote her a backstory explaining how she commands a starfleet vessel as a scientist and not a member of starfleet. She also has SCOE members and MACOS for protection on her ship.
