I also would like an explanation of why this functionality has been removed. I will be forced to use a macro if it's not reimplemented and I would prefer to not have to do that.
Yes, this was removed by the devs during one of the bigger patches in open beta, supposedly to make ground combat "more fun". IMHO it does the opposite.

Which explains why I was able to Autofire on the ground at the borg that invaded the Sol Station during the end-of-beta event.

I agree. It makes ground combat a pain in the butt now.

If you had already enabled auto-attack before they removed it, you still had it on your toon. I had a toon I made on the day open beta started that had it enabled, then later on I made a new Klingon toon and I couldn't get auto-fire to work.
Yes, this is truly annoying. If you want to do something similar to space combat, make it so you can only auto attack one shortcut or just the primary fire. I can understand not autoing other abilities, but the weapon's basic fire....really? This does NOT make the game more interactive or fun and my 1 key isn't gonna last a month at this rate.
I really do like this game, but I'll admit the ground game is pretty weak at the moment. IMO auto attack made it far more enjoyable.. PLEASE bring it back.:(
Cryptic basically every other MMO has the basic combat action be auto-cast. Don't try to be different, if you think ground combat isn't at the quality level it should be improve the quality, don't try to cover it up by making us pound on the 1 key every time we attack.

/agrees with this.. we called you out cryptic gonna answer or continue to ignore us? ALOT of people are complaining... was just in game and theirs like 10 conversations going on in zone chat about it
Yeah I hope it's a soon to be fixed bug, makes ground combat annoying (I just love continually having to look at my action bar to see when it's recycled my basic attack - yay!)
If this was deliberate, well whoever it was should maybe stick to making coffee. And that's me being really nice.
Having to repeatedly press the 1 key is tedious, not fun. Please consider returning this functionality.

Agree 100% I have plenty of other things I can be doing (controlling pets + their abilities, my own abilities, setting up rallypoint and generators where appropriate, manuevering around evading etc) that I surely don't need to be spamming the 1 key in between trying to do all of this :mad:
Return ground auto-attack. Fire the dev who decided to remove it, because they made one of the stupidest decisions in the entire world. If it was a group of devs who did it after having some sort of stupid party (read: "feature meeting"), please all /jobquit.

yup doing excatly what I did in closed and open beta and not setting works fine on starships just not on ground
