Joystick in an MMO? Thats a bad joke. Where there any Joystick support in ST Legacy, ST Bridge Commaner or ST Starfleed Command? A Joystick is a dino in the mordern game world.

Joystick would be easier on the fingers and hands when steering a ship.
Holding down the keys can be a pain litteraly after a while.
Personally I do suffer from some problems when holding keys, ok if tap and let go but if it is the mouse button or keyboard it becomes painful. Joystick moves it to be the wrist/arm that holds the pressure making it a lot more comfortable.
It also feels more natural in any 3d environment imho.
I've got a Saitek Cyborg X joystick, and I've been playing with it all throughout beta. I've had to use a combination of the device software and Joytokey to get it to work. The only thing I haven't tried and will do once the servers are up, is to map all the throttle controls to F1, F2, etc.. using the Throttleset .25, .50. .75, 1, 0 commands. Then set my throttle on my joystick to Band and split evenly. The camera movement has been a hassle, but my joystick has POV button on the stick and I map it to Mouse Left Click + Mouse X/Y Axis so I can use it to mouselook while I am moving. So far it works okay, but there is still alot of tweaking I need to do.
your kidding right?
2 mmo's I know of off the bat Eve and WWIIonline use joystick
Whenever you have flight sims Joystick is expected its not a dino in these days.

I use a Saitek Cyborg with a thumbstick for all my MMO play, I had a hard time readjusting to the keyboard when I came to STO. I'd love to see support for alternate controllers.
I'd rather like to see more comfortable flight controlls than a joystick.
These Space ships are controlled like submarines, It simply feels wrong.
We are not under water we are in Space... no above no beneath.
Flying these ships keeps me search for a horizon.
As others said EvE does not use a joystick since its all point and click movment. This game is perfet for a joystick or game pad.
Yeah yeah i know you want full axis moving and dont like the assent angle being clipped. Sure that would be nice but it doesnt change that a joy would work great on the movment we have now. Mouse look is just awkward in space. and keys are clunky.
Yeah, the ships are a bit slow - but actually, it does feel pretty natural. A lot more natural than scrambling between the number keys, the ASWD, the arrow keys, and the spacebar all of the time.
As it stands, if you have a Logitech joystick, you can do a key map and be mostly happy - with a few caveats:
-Have to map the throttle to buttons.
-For some strange reason, the "full impulse" feature is pretty flaky.
-The RPG-like skill slots still work best using the number keys.
If you have a hat, it actually works nicely for shield redistribution .
The biggest reason why I'd like native support for joysticks is the throttle. It would be much better (and free up a couple of buttons around my hat) if the throttle could use a joystick axis.
Ive been using xbox pad and have some luck with the move ment and some keys....but it would be great to be able to option your bind keys using the options interface in the game.
I would love to use my Cyborg commander in and the ground game. I'd also like to see a camera lock behind my Ship / Avatar, combat would be so much smoother.

Legacy - YES
SFC III - YES
Older SFC - NO
It took a number of persistant complaints to the various companies that produced SFC products to incorporate Flightstick/Joystick functions. Legacy was an extension of SFC in concept, as STO is.
I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE UP THE USE OF MY FLIGHTSTICK.

nah but seriously.. joystick in a game wich u cant even loop in?? whats the fun in that
Granted there is no IN GAME support for it, I have no problems programming it with it's own tool and using it.
