Devs,
I noticed that a new player named his ship the same as mine....is this going to be allowed during release? If someone comes up with a cool unique ship name....somebody else can rename their ship to the same? I hope this is not the case.

You can name your ship however you want, you just cannot have the same NCC

Anyone can have the same name as you on either ship or toons. The distinction is not in the name of your avatars but in your forum name that is why your forum name is listed in game.

This allows you to not be limited in your creation of your characters. The only limitation is you cannot have the same name twice.

So someone else can name their ship the same as yours, but you can't keep your ship name through the tiers because your registry will be the same throughout?

I have not tried having the same ship name through my tiers.

Have you done this? I'd really like to carry my ship name throughout the game. My son said he had to rename his old ship, then wait a few minutes for it to become available again before renaming his new ship, and that all costs money (in-game money).

I named the 2nd ship like the first but I thought ships names are unique so I renamed the first ship and then used my original ship name for the next tier.

The first rename was free of charge in the beta but I dont know if it will stay that way.

Tbh... imho ship´s names should be unique meaning no other player should be able to use a ships name who´s already being used by anyone else. We dont want to have like 1000 Enterprises out there do we?

You can use the same ship name over and over, you can even use the same registration number BUT u must add a letter in the extra box for it to be valid.

So i can call my T1 ship
    Poppy Seed
    NX-91120

    Then my T2 ship
    Poppy Seed
    NX-91120-A

    My T3 ship
    Poppy Seed
    NX-91120-B

    etc etc

    Correct me if im wrong.

Agreed, my main concern is I'd like to carry my ship name throughout my ships. I really like Apocrypha and how the meaning fits the game.

Fantastic! Thanks for this info. I'm glad we can carry our name through this way.

You can't name your ship the exact same as a previous one that you own, which is what I was attempting to do, as well. I simply added -A, -B etc. which allowed it. The only other option would be to pay for a ship rename on the previous model before using your freebie on any new ship you attain via rank or purchase.

you can decomission the old ship since youll never use it again and then use its name on your new ship.

Shouldn't that work? I never leveled up enough in Beta to try that?

The above works, you lose the original ship though by decommissioning it, but you can re-use the name this way.
