I Liked it the way it was before when everything was fairly relative in random encounters, it was fun.
The new system lumps in computer players with +11 next to the ship box for example, I've seen varying numbers including negatives.
But anything above +3 is impossible to kill, and anything around 11 will yank down shields in one blast and blow a ship apart with it's second, the level isn't noticeable until a player is with in firing range and on level 11 ships thats pretty much it.
These ships will also follow you after you have observed the level and attempted to avoid it and engage another enemy on par in level pretty much ruining the event.
I STRONGLY urge you to limit level spreads and give the players options of moving to higher level encounters so that a player without any other options selected will enter an encounter with nothing above or below 2-3 levels of them self.
Also the option to go back and shoot up lower level ships should be available or else the scale of accomplishment as a person levels will not be as rewarding or noticeable.
