TERRIBLE EXPLOIT! Abusing game mechanics allows for 1,8 MILLION damage! Please, fix.

I'd like to again report that a terrible exploit allows players to deal over 1,8 million damage in one attack! Essentially killing any boss in space, instantly, no contest. Included is a screenshot for reference as attachment, where I repeated the exploit to show it can be done.

The attack basically concists of doing the following:
  1. The player engages EMERGENCY MANEUVRES #
  2. The player goes to FULL IMPULSE which stacks with the emergency maneuvre to give a brief super burst of speed (speed of 300 or such).
  3. The player engages the RAMMING SPEED # skill to get even more speed and to deal ramming damage.
  4. The player flies their ship just into the enemy by brushing just against them, to maintain as much speed as they can while passing.
  5. Over 1,8 million (!) damage is dealt to the enemy, killing them instantly, unconditioned of what they are.
  6. The player dies also, but respawns, getting the fleet action reward, or grabbing the loot after respawning.
  7. The skill can be repeated again after 4 minutes when ramming speed has recharged.

Attachment not found.

Please, do something about this exploit, or people will be killing the biggest, meanest bosses with no effort anywhere.

Suggestions:
  1. Make the use of emergency maneuvres 'disable' ramming speed, while using ramming speed 'disables' emergency maneuvres (for a few seconds). Also make using ramming speed engage you into a battle state so that full impulse is impossible. Make it impossible to use ramming speed while in full impulse.
  2. Do not base ramming speed on your actual velocity, but base it on the percentage of hull which is left. This way, ramming speed is capped.
  3. Give ramming speed damage a cap equal to the players health, that way when ramming you can never do more damage than your ship has health. Also, this way it makes sense that a heavier ship hits harder.
  4. Give ramming speed a certain fixed damage value, which depends on the skilllevel your ramming speed skill has, and multiply that with a value derived from how much energy you spend in the 'engines settings'.
  5. Make ramming speed as a fixed, multiplied by for example your engines flight speed.

I hope all they do is put a Cap on the damage. For the love of god dont nerf Evasive maneuvers or full impulse. Cryptic usually very heavy handed in their fixes.

Star trek likes ramming things. Enterprise D even rammed a planet!

I agree. Cap the dammage and don't allow Evasive Manevuers or Full Impulse to be used in conjuction with the ramming option.

That was just Troi being behind the helm again. The second time she was she scratched the paint by hitting the scimitar. I think it's a Trek inside joke. ;)

yes because no one would want to ram at maximum speed

Hmmm I am curious how a sploit like this even got this far...

definitely needs a fix... The Entity camping is already enough of a mess without this ...

They already made it so you cant use full impulse and then activate evasive. you can still do evasive then full impulse though.

I think speed buff stacking is not intended but they cant figure out how to fix it properly :p

    So, in short...

The game has the exact same HORRIBLY BROKEN damage/resistance stacking issues that it did back in CO. Especially as it has the same engine running both games.

    Wow.

    LOL thanks OP, that's epic.

I wonder how many people knew about this and didn't report it, hoping it would go live so they could farm those booses.

Plenty. I noticed that Evasive + Impulse stacks very early.

I'm wondering if engines should have a maximum rated possible speed (aka a speed cap). This would be probably be equal to Full Impulse speed and would be a simple as reducing any speed over that speed to the max speed. The maximum speed would be listed in the stats of the impulse engine. It'd be a simple way of dealing with these speed stacking problems.

Random question, I've never tried ramming speed, does it generally destroy the ship that's rammed or does it only take a certain percentage off?

gah, thanks for putting it all over the forums instead of using the bugging system like I did.

Now this just makes it so everyone will be trying it in headstart to see if it fixed and if not to take all the loot. It better only a few knew about it until it got fixed but you gone and published it to the world :(

it will get fixed quicker if a lot of people are exploiting it. Rather than hiding it in the closet.

This ones already pretty well know among the CB players. lol. I dont think this a 'select few' kinda issue.

Most things just werent big enough to hit back when full impulse and EM stacked for the whole duration. Hard to hit a BoP when your moving so fast you clear the whole deep space encounter in 7 seconds.

Sounds like you're jealous. Like it was something YOU were waiting to do during early access. At least now it is well known and this will put pressure on the Devs to do something about it.

Everyone an their mother is going to use this exploit until it is fixed.

    dang.

Why does is always seem like hardcore grinders come up with the most crazy ways to make what ever MMO game they play that much more boring?

Guys, check it out, if you don't like playing a game, don't play it. No ones forcing you to get to the level cap ASAP so you can cancel your subscription! Enjoy the game or please leave.

Thank you for discovering the issue though, I hope the devs fix it.

Good job on finding an exploit. I don't understand why your so mad that this exists I think its pretty funny. And its an obvious bug it'll get fixed eventually.

No, I am a casual and I don't die. Pro players can be casual too, DP is simply meaningless if not a char deletion after death. And I would play that, would you?

People have been posting and bug reporting this since CLOSED BETA.

Keep the public informed, and either Cryptic will fix it sooner, or we will all at least be on the same level...and all roaring towards boss ships to be the first to ram them.

I love when these exploits get outed. Apparently people reporting it in CB and probably even OB wasn't enough to get Cryptic to bear down on fixing such a huge exploit. Now they either fix it fast, or become a bigger joke in the MMO world.

Stuff like this can break the game and economy in short order when the people that know stuff like this all hit level cap in less than a week and flood the AH with gear.
