Ok, every time i am on a ground battle i crash, does not matter what i do, i can be standing still looking on the ground or i could be in a battle with 10 klingons, could be one minute in to the mission or 10 minutes,.
It is getting really frustrating as i dont get any crashes anywhere else, its just on the ground missions.
Most of the time i am not getting a error code, the only one i have got so far is: 9114384
Had the same issue. Space combat, travel etc. worked fine, but on ground missions it crashed to the desktop after 2 or 3 minutes, the system getting slower and slower just before that.
I don't know about your system, but I guess on my side it's caused by my ati 5770. After digging a bit through the bug reports I found the ATI-Issues report, which doesn't say anything about crashes, but brought me to try the suggested fix. So I set all video settings on 'low', and I haven't had a ground mission crash since then.

It's ****-ugly that way, but it works.
Try returning all of your settings to normal, except disable either Post-Processing or Dynamic Lighting. For some reason, one of these two options are responsible for the majority of ground combat crashes for both ATI and Nvidia users.
FWIW, I'm currently running every detail option at the highest setting (including all of the sliders) at 1280x1024 with 4xAA/8xAF on my 5770. The only thing I don't have enabled is Dynamic Lighting, which was causing constant crashes on the ground. Between disabling this setting and the recent patches, I almost never crash now.

Turning off the Post-Processing actually did the trick, thanks a lot. Everything else is running near max to max, dynamic lighting on, no crashes so far.
